After waking up from the apocalypse and finding herself in ancient times, Gu Xiaoyao believed the heavens had granted her another chance in a paradise. Here, she could live again, free from the horrors of her previous world. Yet, her new circumstances—freshly married, with a troublesome mother-in-law and scheming brother-in-law—required her to rely on a principle she had always trusted: when fists suffice, words are unnecessary. With a well-aimed punch, no villain could stand in her way. This was her domain, and no one could challenge her authority. She cultivated the land, hunted wild game, earned money to buy fields and shops, and, with the help of her spatial abilities, inadvertently became a prosperous farmer. However, what troubled her most was that her nominal husband clung to her incessantly. She had no intention of trapping a man, but this so-called husband seemed determined to trap her instead. Life, it seemed, was not so simple. “One day as husband and wife means a lifetime together. Are you planning to deny it and abandon your husband?” he asked, aggrieved. “I’m not, I haven’t, I never meant to,” Gu Xiaoyao denied, three times in succession. Since the handsome man had come knocking, she could only ‘reluctantly’ accept him with a smile.

In the dead of night, a rustling sound echoed from the base of the window where it met the wall. Gu Xiaoyao lay on a bed as hard as stone, listening intently. She couldn't comprehend how, though she had been in the apocalypse mere moments before, she had suddenly arrived in this place. Her body would not move, and the room, shrouded in darkness, revealed nothing to her eyes.
“Sister-in-law...”
A slippery male voice drifted in from outside the window, leaking cold wind into the room, the tone so greasy it made the heart uneasy. When the man outside received no response, he grew anxious, pried open the window, and poked his head inside.
Gu Xiaoyao watched as the man struggled to squeeze in from the outside. She moved her fingers, her face utterly indifferent.
The man planted one foot on the floor, chuckling slyly as he rubbed his frozen hands, finding this furtive errand more difficult than he’d expected.
“What are you doing here?”
Gu Xiaoyao’s tone was calm as she posed her question. Since arriving here, she had absorbed all the memories of this body, and she was well aware of its unfulfilled wish.
“Sister-in-law, Mother sent me. Big Brother is still away, and you’ve just married in, so you might not be familiar with our home yet. Mother was worried you’d be afraid, so she asked me to keep you company.”
Chu Qingsong’s voice feigned concern, but the filthy thoughts in his heart were as obvious as cockroaches crawling in the corner.
