Chapter Thirty-Eight: Believe It or Not
They say that every autumn rain brings another spell of cold, and the rain that had fallen for nearly the entire day made the saying all the more apparent.
At least when Yun Shu went out that evening, she had put on a jacket over her blouse.
After the rain, the weather was beautiful. Looking into the distance, Wolf Azure Mountain appeared and disappeared amid the clear, translucent mist, and faintly, one could almost hear the mountain springs rushing and splashing. It was the perfect embodiment of that famous verse: “After fresh rain on the empty mountain, autumn arrives with the evening air. The bright moon shines between the pines, while clear springs flow over the stones.”
Although her current identity was being kept secret, most of the higher-ups already knew of her existence. It was only natural that they would want to meet this legendary successor.
A World-Destroying Calamity Lord had appeared in the Chaotic Star Region! That was not a name bestowed upon him by others; he had given it to himself.
“Very well. Since the Governor says that mastering these three subjects can bring us such changes, then no matter what, our children must learn them well. To be honest, even this old man would like to see just how miraculous these three subjects truly are.” Huang Liji stroked his beard, speaking with some excitement.
But when Lei Chen thought of the somewhat crooked development of Huaxia’s skill tree, he felt relieved. Well, the skill tree had already been developed along the wrong lines and was now racing rapidly toward technology. Even if they really did develop weapons straight out of science-fiction films, it would still be understandable.
The other party’s strange behavior, along with those words—“Come find me”—left Du Qianjie completely baffled. In the end, he could only pat his metal head and mutter inwardly: Could it be my appearance? Did I frighten such a fierce soul beast senseless?
“You?” Li Jiang pointed at Cui Huimin in confusion, then turned to look at his cousin, his meaning clear: Why has your girl gone to help another man?
Then it suddenly occurred to him that the man had told him to notify him when he was leaving. But he had completely forgotten. Damn it, how was he supposed to explain this?
Lei Chen stomped hard on the accelerator, sending the car’s speed soaring once again. He gave the steering wheel a slight turn, and the vehicle shot onto the lawn in an instant. In the blink of an eye, it roared across the grass and vaulted into the air.
Looking around, he saw eight off-road vehicles parked along the roadside. Only three were still intact; the other five had been battered into a riddled wreckage.
At the thought, Gao Qing involuntarily glanced toward his cousin’s wife. As fate would have it, she was looking at him too. Their eyes met. Gao Qing’s gaze held admiration, while he noticed that his future cousin’s wife had looked at him with puzzlement from the very first moment. He found this deeply perplexing.
“Don’t flatter yourself.” He shot her a cold glance, wrapped an arm tightly around Xia Yimo’s shoulders, and spoke with complete indifference.
Now and then, they would plant flowers and herbs, brew new varieties of wine, cultivate together, and ponder new techniques.
From the moment the program began, they had encountered all kinds of accidents and sudden incidents, keeping their nerves taut the entire time. Now that they finally had a brief respite, thinking back on what had just happened—and on how they had still been living ordinary lives only a day earlier—they truly felt as though they had passed into another lifetime.
There was no need for Shuangzhi to busy herself with the Crown Prince of Li coming to visit. Instead, she had someone summon Shopkeeper Du and sent him to the Prince Yu’s residence to reply to Guo Jing regarding the proposed business cooperation. There was no need to explain too much; he could simply say that the Shi family had never intended to expand the business greatly and that its present scale was already sufficient.
For the past several months, Mu Lingsha and Shen Ye had remained in Lovesick Valley. Shen Ye was recovering from his injuries, while Mu Lingsha was caring for her pregnancy.
Qingcheng smiled, took the wine jar from Changge’s hand, and drank a mouthful. Her mind had already been slightly light-headed, and the liquor set it ablaze with searing heat.
That move had completely blocked every possible path before them, leaving them in an impossible position: punishing them was wrong, but not punishing them was wrong as well.
“I’m here to sell some treasures. There are quite a few items, so call out whoever is in charge.” Su Molian stated her purpose directly, her deliberately roughened voice carrying a trace of coldness.
First update of the day. Good morning—la la la! I don’t think I’ve ever been particularly enthusiastic about asking for votes, haha. I’m just too lazy.
“First Young Madam.” Xiangqin and Linglan bowed to Shuangzhi, a certain unspoken understanding gleaming in their eyes.
