1 The Supporting Actress’s Revenge System

The sky was layered with dense clouds and mist, shrouding the sun in a dim haze. Abyssal sea monsters roamed, stirring the ocean currents. Legend spoke of the last sword bone of the Great Desert of the Western Decision, stained by wind and frost, neither buried in yellow earth nor reduced to ashes—
A worn, ancient tome chronicling recent history lay on the ground. The disciples of the Ten Thousand Trees Sect, who were playing and laughing nearby, suddenly paused. One of them picked it up and, before he could ask whose the book was, his gaze was caught by a pair of glistening apricot eyes like rippling water.
A blush, as if painted by the evening glow, crept up the disciple’s cheeks. He pressed the tome into the girl’s hands. “Junior Sister Jiuwu, this is for you…”
The girl across from him curved her brows into a smile, warmly embracing the tome to her chest, but her eyes drifted past him to another figure.
The disciple wanted to say more but was abruptly pulled away by someone beside him.
“Stop staring. No matter how much you look, she won’t like you. Morning cultivation is about to start; sit down quickly.”
“But Senior Brother Xuanyi will never be with Junior Sister Jiuwu. What’s wrong with me taking a look?”
Reluctantly, he sat down. His words were not out of dislike for Jiuwu; she was gentle, humble, and beautiful. Especially when she looked at him with those smiling, harmless eyes, his heart softened.
But who was Xuanyi? He was the young master of the Ten Thousand Trees Sect—upright and principled, radiant like clear skies after a storm. Though many scattered cultivators called him the “Young Master of the Immortal Sect,” he never flaunted his talent or looked down on others, treating all equally regardless of status.
Yet, when it came to matters of the heart, he remained untouched.
In this era, the sect was far more enlightened than in the old days. Though strict, the Ten Thousand Trees Sect was open-minded about relationships. If two truly loved each other and were compatible, the sect would not bar their union. Many disciples had formed lifelong partners within the sect.
Only Xuanyi was the exception. While everyone else could fall in love, he could not. Xuanyi bore the responsibility of the entire Immortal Sect and was the sole “Sword Bone” to appear in tens of thousands of years.
The Sword Bone grew without staining itself with feelings.
Because of this, countless women admired him silently, yearning in vain, sorrowful yet powerless.
“Alas, though Junior Sister Jiuwu is the young master’s only junior sister, she too cannot escape a heartbroken fate. Do you think I still have a chance?”
...
Their whispered conversation stiffened the smile on Jiuwu’s lips for a moment before it returned to normal. Just as she was about to approach the snowy figure, the tall silhouette rose and brushed past her.
She did not miss the flicker of annoyance in those narrow phoenix-like eyes, and her eyes reddened instantly.
People said he was gentle and reasonable, like a clear breeze and bright moon, with eyes like those of a deity, carrying an elegance and compassion that transcended the mundane.
He was the jade-like young master everyone admired, even smiling kindly at the humblest outer disciple. Yet why, with her alone, was he indifferent and distant to the extreme?
The pages of the tome bore a crescent-shaped fingerprint. Jiuwu blinked, the brilliance in her eyes fading. Before the master arrived, she left the morning cultivation class.
“Senior Brother, where are you going?”
She hurried to catch up with the moon-white slender figure, her apricot eyes unblinking as she studied his side profile, glancing over his slightly lowered phoenix eyes, the straight bridge of his nose, and his moderately full pale pink lips.
The corridor shielded part of the sunlight, casting interlaced shadows. Unexpectedly, those narrow eyes looked up at her, making Jiuwu’s lashes tremble.
[Senior Brother is even more handsome than the soul-eating succubus in the story...]
Her heart thumped wildly at that look, unable to calm for a long time, utterly oblivious to the frost-laden expression marking the other’s brows.
[What should I do? I really like him. His eyes are beautiful, his nose is beautiful, his lips... they look so soft...]
Xuanyi’s eyes narrowed gently. He looked at Jiuwu standing there, especially obedient and demure. The curve of her lips was appropriate and fitting, and her gaze held a trace of timidity.
Jiuwu said nothing, but Xuanyi’s ears kept recalling her soft voice, so at odds with her current expression—bold and unrestrained words.

[Senior Brother is so handsome, everyone likes him. It’s so annoying; I wish I could hide him away.]
Everyone envied him for possessing the Sword Bone that had not appeared for tens of thousands of years, but they did not know that as the Sword Bone fused with flesh and blood, Xuanyi gained a special ability.
Once they made eye contact, he could hear the other’s innermost thoughts.
What he just heard was from his junior sister, the one everyone loved, who seemed gentle, close, humble, and understanding—her heart’s voice.
“Junior Sister, is something the matter?”
Jiuwu looked at Xuanyi. His tone was calm, yet she felt those cold phoenix eyes looked at her as if she were something filthy, utterly detached.
“Senior Brother, nothing’s wrong. I just wanted to ask where you’re going…” Jiuwu lowered her head, speaking softly.
[How do I tell Senior Brother my feelings? If I say it, will he ignore me? No, I can’t say it.]
Xuanyi withdrew his gaze lightly, not answering, but repeated, “Junior Sister, is something the matter?”
The blush faded from Jiuwu’s face, her fingertips pressing into her flesh. She slowly shook her head, “Nothing...”
Indeed, in Senior Brother’s eyes, there seemingly was no need to inform her where he went.
But would he be so cold if anyone else asked?
Tears welled beneath Jiuwu’s eyes. She stood helplessly aside, as if she’d done something wrong.
Xuanyi hummed and bypassed her, walking away.
He had heard many inner voices—filled with obsession and affection—but only this seemingly gentle and humble junior sister’s long-lasting and bold intentions toward him were somewhat tiresome.
He never intended to entangle himself in feelings; even if one day he changed his mind, it would never be with her.
“Senior Brother Xuanyi.” Two passing disciples clasped their hands respectfully and greeted him.
Xuanyi nodded slightly without stopping.
Jiuwu remained where she was as the two disciples drew near, overhearing their low voices:
“Is Senior Brother Xuanyi in a bad mood?”
“You noticed too? I wonder which careless person made someone as even-tempered as Xuanyi so angry…”
They noticed Jiuwu standing in the corridor.
“Junior Sister Jiuwu, you’re here? Why aren’t you attending morning cultivation?”
Seeing her pale face, they approached worriedly. “Junior Sister, what’s wrong?”
Jiuwu stepped back two paces and forced a smile. “Thank you for your concern. I’m not feeling well, so I won’t attend class today.”
Without looking at them further, she staggered away.
The Ten Thousand Trees Sect had thirty-six peaks. Jiuwu and Xuanyi both belonged to the Dao Immortal Sect and lived on Wuwang Peak. After the Dao Immortal Sect master retired, Wuwang Peak became even quieter.
Wuwang Peak lay southeast of the main peak. The morning cultivation class was not close and required crossing the main peak’s back mountain. Jiuwu flew her sword over the forest on the back mountain. Her gaze stopped when it swept over a familiar figure in the woods.
A graceful female disciple suddenly saw something, then swayed and fell to the ground.

Within moments, Jiuwu’s longed-for moon-white figure passed by. The pitiful woman reached out to grasp his robe. They spoke softly; Jiuwu couldn’t make out their words, but she faintly saw the faint curve at Xuanyi’s lips and his gentle motion brushing away weeds from the woman’s head.
He had never shown such a smile to her—not once. No, she had never seen the cold, moonlight-like young master of the Immortal Sect display such seemingly intimate gestures to anyone.
The woman’s fingertips lightly touched Xuanyi’s immaculate sleeve. Jiuwu’s gaze froze, her white teeth biting her lip fiercely, her expression bearing a bloodthirst she had never noticed in herself.
“Ding! Important initial plot node acquired: Illusory Demon Enters the World.”
Jiuwu glanced around but saw no one. Her brows furrowed slightly.
“Host, greetings. The Villainess Comeback System is online to serve you. Please receive the entire plot.”
After the eerie voice faded, numerous disordered images flooded Jiuwu’s mind. They merged into a fragmented scroll, labeled with two characters: “Immortal Path.”
The story’s male lead was born with a sword bone, famed from youth, his extraordinary talent envied and revered by countless cultivators.
He was born of the righteous path and disliked demons. Yet, at the start of the story, a hidden illusory demon female lead within the sect planted a nightmare poison in him. Once triggered, the poison could strip the male lead of his cultivation for three months, rendering him a mere mortal.
During a demonic invasion, the male lead left the sect to pursue the culprit. The illusory demon activated the poison, ensnaring him in a demon’s trap. Gravely wounded, he was rescued by the illusory demon female lead disguised as a mortal.
She intended to gain his trust to seize the sword bone within him but grew attached to him through their daily interactions. Just as their feelings blossomed, he discovered her true identity. After she left sorrowfully, he chased her across thousands of miles, forgiving her and abandoning his prejudice against demons.
Though their relationship saw many trials, they trusted each other until the villainous female supporting character appeared. The male lead brought the female lead back to the sect. To be with his demon consort, he willingly endured thunder punishments.
While he lay gravely injured and unconscious, the villainous supporting female, falsely claiming the sect leader’s orders, led disciples to surround and imprison the female lead, capturing the male lead. She was willing to fall into demonic corruption to separate the couple.
The story’s ending was incomplete, but the villainess’s fate was fully revealed. Later, corrupted by demonic power, she imprisoned the male lead to gain more strength, harming fellow disciples and even releasing a demon god sealed for a millennium. Ultimately, she was betrayed and gravely wounded by the demon god.
When gravely wounded, the sect discovered the imprisoned male lead and exposed the villainess’s deeds. The sect’s factions joined forces to annihilate her, leaving her soul shattered with no chance of reincarnation.
Jiuwu opened her eyes, her black pupils rimmed with bloodshot veins. She looked down at the two figures below. The male lead was her beloved Senior Brother Xuanyi, the female lead was the graceful illusory demon disguised as a sect disciple, and she herself was the villainous supporting character who loved the male lead to obsession, madness, and loss of humanity.
“Host, the Villainess Comeback System has bound to you and will help you escape the plot, avoid trouble, and avert a tragic death.”
The ribbons framing Jiuwu’s face fluttered in the wind. Her delicate, innocent countenance appeared eerie with the red in her pupils. A faint smile curved her lips. “Why change it?”
“What?” The system did not understand her meaning. It had passed through countless small worlds, each host crying and begging desperately to alter their tragic fates upon learning their stories…
“In that story, didn’t I already have Senior Brother?”
Jiuwu lowered her gaze to the moon-white figure. Even in the dim forest, he was so pure, untouched by dust.
So, it was possible to win Senior Brother in such a simple, easy way.
Jiuwu joyfully curved her brows and quietly watched as purple mist seeped from the vile illusory demon’s wrist into Xuanyi’s back…
She did not stop it.
[So this is the young master of the Immortal Sect praised by all? It seems he is not as formidable as rumored. The nightmare poison has been planted. Once I find the right moment to seize the sword bone, I can rescue my brother from the endless abyss.]
The sharp voice of triumph halted Xuanyi’s steps. He looked at the seemingly delicate woman leaning on him. Maintaining his composed expression, he gently brushed aside the drooping branches.
After seeing her off, he took the handkerchief offered by the shadow guard and coldly wiped the fragrance from his wrist…
