Chapter 14: Sixth Master Sheng Cannot Afford to Gamble
“What do you want?”
Sheng Xingye clenched his back teeth, his gaze fixed intently on Yun Zhaozhao.
Yun Zhaozhao smiled faintly. “Of course, to play a few rounds with ‘Sixth Master’!”
“What?!”
“You still want to gamble?!”
Sheng Xingye was so furious he felt like exploding.
“If not, then what? Sixth Master wouldn’t be afraid to play, right?”
The tension between them was palpable.
The gambling house and the other noble sons watched eagerly, anticipating the showdown.
“Play, huh? Fine! I’m game!”
As Yun Zhaozhao entered the scene, she slapped down a silver ticket worth ten thousand taels.
Sheng Xingye felt his heart bleed as he watched.
That damned spendthrift woman!
All that money was his.
The gamblers burst into laughter.
They had only planned to fleece Sheng Xingye once, but unexpectedly, a fat sheep was handed to them on a silver platter.
“Place your bets!”
“Big! Big! Big!”
“Small! Small! Small!”
Qin Tianbao and Jin Chui shouted fiercely, battling each other with full force.
“Yeah! We won!”
After two rounds, Yun Zhaozhao had basically figured out that the gambling house was scheming to trap Sheng Xingye along with her.
“One last round, a big one. How about it?”
One of the young masters proposed.
Yun Zhaozhao agreed without hesitation. “Alright, I’ll make it an even twenty thousand. Are you in?”
Sheng Xingye’s face darkened as he glared fiercely at her.
“What’s wrong? Sixth Master can’t afford to gamble?”
The others immediately jeered, “Impossible! Sixth Master isn’t short of a few taels like you!”
The banker quickly added, “But if Sixth Master hasn’t brought enough money, our house can lend you some for emergencies.”
Shi Jinyuan had long sensed a trap. “Sixth Brother, maybe we should quit.”
“That’s out of the question. We agreed on three rounds. Sixth Master can’t go back on his word.”
“Exactly. How could Sixth Master face anyone if word gets out?”
Qin Tianbao panicked. “Sixth Brother, you go first. I’ll send someone to fetch the money from home!”
He regretted not following Sixth Brother’s example and using the dividends to buy land and shops.
“That’s too troublesome. How about I lend you the money?”
Yun Zhaozhao raised her chin.
Shi Jinyuan immediately warned, “Sixth Brother, be careful. I have ten thousand taels on me. We can chip in…”
“No need. I’ll just borrow hers.”
Sheng Xingye ground his teeth in anger.
After all, most of his money had already been lost to that madwoman, Yun Zhaozhao.
If the gambling house wanted to retrieve their money from that madwoman, known for her stinginess, they’d likely end up turning the entire place upside down.
In the end, the money would still return to their own pockets.
But he never expected Yun Zhaozhao to buy big just like him this time.
The gamblers were overjoyed.
They had thought they’d have to spend some effort to deal with this foolish rich kid after finishing with Sheng Lao Liu, but now they could catch them both at once.
“Big! Big! Big!”
Qin Tianbao screamed hoarsely.
Jin Chui was no less determined.
Yun Zhaozhao’s gaze casually flicked to the banker’s face.
Seeing a sly smile rise in his eyes, she immediately channeled her inner energy to press down on the table.
An invisible force swept silently across.
“Ah! We won!”
Qin Tianbao and Jin Chui shouted excitedly, while the gamblers were struck dumb.
“Impossible! You... you’re cheating!”
“Any proof? No? Then accept your loss. Got it?”
Yun Zhaozhao said coldly, then gave Jin Chui a glance. “Collect the money!”
Jin Chui immediately stepped forward and swept all the silver tickets in front of Sheng Xingye into his own hands.
“Fatso, what are you doing? That’s our Sixth Brother’s money!”
“Whose Sixth Brother’s money? This is money borrowed from my master.”
“Even if the principal was borrowed, the winnings belong to our Sixth Brother!”
“The winnings made with my master’s money belong to my master! Besides, your Sixth Brother hasn’t said a word, so why are you making noise?”
Qin Tianbao then realized their Sixth Brother had been silent the entire time.
“Sixth Brother, shall we just let it go?”
“Hmph. What use is winning if you can’t take it away?”
Sheng Xingye said, then turned and left.
The gambling house was in chaos and nobody paid him any mind.
“Master, what did he mean just now?”
Jin Chui asked.
Yun Zhaozhao’s sharp gaze swept over the gathering thugs. She smiled faintly. “If you want a fight, you’ll get one.”
Within fifteen minutes, the floor was littered with twisted, groaning men clutching their injuries.
The two of them collected the silver tickets and headed straight for the exit.
Just as they reached the first floor entrance, dozens of arrows flew at them in unison.
Yun Zhaozhao leapt into the air, her red soft whip leaving a blur in its wake.
Most arrows were deflected, a few got tangled in the whip.
Seeing them unharmed, the gambling house manager broke out in a cold sweat.
“Quick! Fire again!”
Before he finished speaking, Yun Zhaozhao swung the whip, now wrapped with arrows, fiercely outward.
“Ah!”
Screams erupted all around.
The manager finally grew afraid.
“Who... who are you? Do you know who my master is?”
Yun Zhaozhao didn’t even glance at him, striding out of the Ruyi Gambling House arrogantly.
The manager looked at the fallen archers around him and shrank back in fear.
Seeing Yun Zhaozhao walk out safely, Sheng Xingye couldn’t help but let out a breath of relief, then was overcome with renewed anger.
That damned woman had cleaned him out completely.
Now, he was truly penniless.
“Haha, Ruyi Gambling House really met their match this time.”
Kang Yi sneered with schadenfreude.
As a true playboy, he had lost no small fortune to Ruyi Gambling House.
Seeing the house get beaten naturally pleased him.
Qin Tianbao cursed, “Those two aren’t good people either, taking all Sixth Brother’s winnings.”
“Aren’t they afraid of Ruyi Gambling House’s revenge?”
Song Qiming whispered.
Sheng Xingye snorted coldly. “Look at her brazen guts. Does she look like someone who’s afraid?”
Shi Jinyuan glanced thoughtfully at Sheng Xingye.
“Sixth Brother, shall we eat first?”
“Alright.”
While Sheng Xingye ate, Yun Zhaozhao, flush with unexpected wealth, went shopping with two maids.
By the time the three returned to the Duke’s mansion, night had already fallen.
“Madam Sixth, the young lady requests your presence.”
The messenger was Xia Momo, attendant to Lady Liang, the Duke’s wife.
She had clearly been waiting at the gate for a long time.
Yun Zhaozhao frowned. “Something wrong?”
Xia Momo hesitated. A mother-in-law telling a daughter-in-law to speak shouldn’t delay rushing over.
“The young lady has been waiting for you a long time.”
“Oh, then don’t keep her waiting. If it’s important, we’ll talk tomorrow.”
Without waiting for Xia Momo to respond, Yun Zhaozhao strode quickly toward the garden.
So tired, she just wanted to lie down.
“Bang!”
“Bastard!”
“Absolutely lawless! I want to ask how that general’s household raised its daughter!”
Sheng Xingye, just back at the mansion and hoping to squeeze some silver from his mother, immediately turned and left upon hearing the noise inside.
Looks like he’d have to seek compensation from his uncle’s house.
Only when Yun Zhaozhao returned to the garden did she learn that Sheng Hongfei had come looking for her three or four times that day.
Tsk, she must be anxious.
She recalled that damn system had said there was a three-day time limit, and now only one day remained.
Sure enough, early the next morning, Sheng Hongfei arrived again.
