Chapter 7: The Malevolent Spirit Breed vs. The Demon Spirit Breed
Page (1/3)
Someone immediately recognized Yato’s identity.
“Black Spirit Cat, an evil spirit breed!”
“Damn, someone actually contracted with an evil spirit breed? Aren’t they afraid of being influenced?”
Whispers and murmurs spread among the crowd, and instinctively, they all began to distance themselves from Xingxing.
Fan Honghong was also quite frightened; she hadn’t expected that Xingxing’s spirit breed would be an evil spirit breed.
Evil spirit breeds possess malevolent spiritual energy, inherently aggressive, bloodthirsty, and cruel. Moreover, this energy is infectious. If a spirit user’s resolve is weak, they are highly likely to be affected by the evil spirit breed they contract with, becoming as ruthless and savage as it is.
Furthermore, most evil spirit breeds are unruly and defiant, and very few spirit users earn their approval. Thus, it is rare for anyone to form a contract with them.
Even a few teachers looked at Xingxing with surprise at this moment.
“Which family does this girl belong to?” Hu, the team leader of Fan Honghong’s group, asked Zhao, Xingxing’s team leader.
Zhao thought for a moment and said, “I think she’s a postnatal awakener discovered by Ye Qing.”
“Ye Qing? Ye Qing from the Serpent Squad?” Hu asked in astonishment.
“That’s what the data says,” Zhao nodded.
Hu suddenly understood, “That explains it. Their captain’s ace spirit breed is an evil spirit breed, so they’re especially tolerant of evil spirit breeds and don’t have any prejudice against them.”
At this moment, Xingxing and Yato had already entered the glass room. The instant they stepped in, they sensed the Rainbow Crown Swan locking onto them.
The Rainbow Crown Swan looked down on the pair—a girl and a cat—with disdain in its eyes.
The next second, it launched an attack at Xingxing, just like it had assaulted Lu Xiangxiang before.
Xingxing’s reflexes and movements were much quicker. She shifted her body deftly, dodging the Rainbow Crown Swan’s strike.
At the same time, Yato let out a sharp screech, leapt into the air, and swung its claws toward the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Yato’s jumping ability was exceptional, effortlessly reaching the same level as the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Seeing Yato’s claws coming, the Rainbow Crown Swan was startled and instinctively flapped its wings to strike it.
Bang!
The two spirit breeds collided with a tremendous crash. The Rainbow Crown Swan was slammed heavily against the glass wall and plummeted to the ground along with Yato.
Clearly, both the cat and the bird took a hard fall.
It was unclear what material the glass room’s walls were made of, but even after such a fierce impact, the glass did not crack in the slightest.
Looking at the scene, Teacher Hu said, “That girl isn’t ordinary. The Rainbow Crown Swan’s strike looked simple but was actually domineering. Usually, a newcomer wouldn’t be able to dodge it.”
Zhao nodded, “That Black Spirit Cat is strong too. It doesn’t seem like a newcomer’s spirit breed at all, managing to hold its own against the Rainbow Crown Swan.”
Hu sighed, “The academy probably didn’t expect anyone to actually receive the Rainbow Crown Swan’s approval when they placed it here.”
Inside the glass room, the Rainbow Crown Swan had already flown up again. Its gaze toward Xingxing and Yato no longer held contempt but carried a subtle, imperceptible solemnity.
“Goo~~” The Rainbow Crown Swan cried out once, then suddenly dove down, its wings unleashing powerful energy as it struck at Yato.
Though the Rainbow Crown Swan appeared elegant and was bird-shaped, it was actually a power-type spirit breed.
In contrast, Yato was nimble, so naturally, it wouldn’t collide head-on with the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Suddenly, Yato’s body dissolved into a cloud of black mist and vanished.
When it reappeared, it was directly above the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Xingxing was a bit surprised; she hadn’t expected Yato to have such an ability.
Yato landed directly on the Rainbow Crown Swan’s back, raking its claws viciously across it.
“Goo~~” The Rainbow Crown Swan screamed in pain, flapping and tumbling in the air with its beautiful black feathers scattering everywhere.
But Yato’s two tails suddenly lengthened like ropes, binding the Rainbow Crown Swan’s neck tightly. No matter how hard the swan struggled, it couldn’t shake Yato off.
Furious, the Rainbow Crown Swan began to release its skill. The seven gemstones on its crown shimmered with rainbow light, and a red beam shot forth from the central ruby.
The beam swept across the glass room, causing a violent explosion.
Unfortunately, Yato was on its back, so no matter how hard the swan tried, it couldn’t hit Yato, making its efforts futile.
“Meow~~” Yato bit down on the Rainbow Crown Swan’s neck. Evil spirit energy surged into the swan’s body, and it immediately lost control, plummeting from the air.
They really won!
Outside, the other newcomers stared wide-eyed.
Under the influence of the evil spirit energy, the Rainbow Crown Swan lay on the ground convulsing, its feathers in disarray, no longer the elegant and beautiful bird it had been.
Its eyes looked at Yato with undeniable defiance.

“Damned filthy cat, despicable!”
Yato paid no mind to the Rainbow Crown Swan’s gaze. After jumping down from its back, it lifted its head high, wearing an arrogant expression. With graceful steps, it strode over to Xingxing.
“See, master, I told you it would be fine!”
Xingxing smiled and stroked Yato’s neck, praising it, “Well done.”
Under the amazed gazes of everyone, Yato shrank back to the size of a palm, then leapt into Xingxing’s bag.
But soon it poked its head out again, making a face and sticking out its tongue at the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Xingxing approached the Rainbow Crown Swan and asked, “Well? Are you willing to acknowledge me?”
The Rainbow Crown Swan hesitated for a moment but finally nodded.
Though that cat was annoying, this person’s strength was impressive.
Moreover, it vaguely sensed a trace of power in this person that made it fearful.
Seeing the Rainbow Crown Swan agree, a smile spread across Xingxing’s face.
Outside, Fan Honghong jumped up and cheered, “Yay! You did it, Xingxing! You’re amazing!”
Then she shot a mocking glance at Lu Xiangxiang and said, “Some people are all talk but don’t realize their own limits. They even ridicule others. Do they even have the face for that? Go home and brush your teeth more—stinks like hell.”
Lu Xiangxiang’s face flushed red, and she was left speechless.
She had always been the best since childhood and never expected a rustic newcomer to surpass her.
Mei Xiaohuan quietly complained, “See? I told you not to mess with her. Now she’s stronger than you. Let’s see how you handle this.”
Xiangxiang, angry, had tears streaming down. “I’ve been bullied, and you say this? Are you even my best friend?”
Mei Xiaohuan shrugged, “Good words can’t persuade a damned ghost.”
“You... wah!” Xiangxiang broke down crying, but no one paid attention; everyone’s focus was on Xingxing.
Xingxing emerged from the glass room. The guard looked at her with admiration and said, “Not bad. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a strong newcomer.”
“Thank you,” Xingxing replied.
Teacher Hu and Teacher Zhao also looked at Xingxing with great respect.
After Xingxing took the Rainbow Crown Swan’s spirit energy card from the guard, she rejoined her team.
But as she approached, others instinctively kept their distance.
They thought it best to avoid the contract holder of an evil spirit breed—too risky.
What if the evil spirit breed went berserk and attacked? They wouldn’t be able to handle such a powerful spirit breed.
Only Fan Honghong maintained her attitude toward Xingxing.
She stuck out her tongue at the others and whispered, “A bunch of cowards!”
Then she quickly ran over to Xingxing and hugged her, acting coquettishly:
“Xingxing, you’re so strong! You have to watch over me from now on—I’m so weak.”
Xingxing silently pulled her away.
“Oh, Xingxing, release your Rainbow Crown Swan. I’ll treat it for you,” Fan Honghong said.
Xingxing was surprised, “Your spirit breed is a healing type?”
“Yeah~,” Fan Honghong nodded.
“Okay!” Xingxing took out the spirit energy card and released the Rainbow Crown Swan.
Still affected by the evil spirit energy, the swan couldn’t move.
Fan Honghong took out her spirit energy card. As it glowed, a long white bandage appeared out of thin air, fluttering around her like a ribbon.
Pointing at the Rainbow Crown Swan, Fan Honghong said, “Bai Bai, help heal it.”
The bandage immediately floated toward the swan, wrapping it tightly like a mummy. The swan was so tightly bound its tongue hung out.
With the bandage emitting a faint white light, the swan’s injuries rapidly healed.
However, Xingxing noticed that this bandage’s healing power seemed much weaker than Mei Xiaohuan’s Little Leaf Lotus.
Fan Honghong introduced, “Xingxing, Bai Bai is my spirit breed—a spirit light bandage, a medical bandage spirit breed, a transforming type.”
The end of the bandage lifted, greeting Xingxing warmly.
Xingxing nodded.
Soon the Rainbow Crown Swan’s injuries healed, yet it still couldn’t move.

Fan Honghong said, “The evil spirit energy inside the Rainbow Crown Swan can’t be dispelled for nothing, but it’s a demon spirit breed. It has demon spirit energy inside, so it should be able to dispel the evil spirit energy by itself soon. No need to worry.”
Xingxing nodded, “Alright, thank you.”
Fan Honghong grinned, “Don’t mention it.”
After the excitement died down, the other newcomers continued choosing their flying mounts, including Lu Xiangxiang.
Soon, everyone had their flying spirit breeds and regrouped at the entrance of the Exotic Garden.
Only Teacher Zhao stepped forward and said, “Flying spirit breeds are a benefit granted by the Alliance to all newcomers, but remember—never form contracts with your flying mounts. It’s unnecessary.
Flying spirit breeds undergo professional training. Even without contracts, they’ll obediently follow your commands.
Your spirit energy levels are too low. Contracting one spirit breed is already your limit. Contracting a second would be too much. You won’t handle the overload, and I’m sure you understand the consequences.
Of course, since you’re not contracted, don’t expect your flying spirit breeds to assist you in battle—they mostly lack combat abilities anyway.
Flying mounts are just that: mounts. Their main role is transportation. Don’t get any wild ideas.
Also, because you haven’t formed contracts, your spirit energy can’t purify the eerie substances the flying spirit breeds absorb. So don’t use flying mounts in the surface world.
The surface world has developed transportation—buses, taxis, subways, airplanes… plenty for you to use. There’s no need for flying spirit breeds!”
After finishing, Teacher Zhao shouted, “Did everyone hear that?”
“We did!” the newcomers answered in unison.
“Good.” Teacher Zhao nodded with satisfaction.
Then Teacher Hu stepped forward, “From today on, Teacher Zhao and I will be your mentors during training. I’ll teach theory; Zhao will teach practice.”
This batch had about thirty newcomers present.
Spirit users were rare, so each batch was roughly this size.
The Academy admitted about five or six batches of newcomers each year.
Teacher Hu continued, “Next, I’ll take you to see the classroom we’ll be using for lessons.”
The group followed Teacher Hu across campus to a teaching building not far from the Exotic Garden.
The Academy was a newcomer training school, not very large, and the teaching building was conveniently located.
Their classroom was on the fifth floor, room 5-3. The space wasn’t large but just right for thirty students.
Once everyone entered the classroom, Teacher Hu said, “Find a seat and settle down.”
The newcomers scrambled to find seats, with Xingxing and Fan Honghong naturally becoming deskmates.
Teacher Hu then went to the podium and said, “Our first lesson will be on how to use the Spirit Rune Wristband.”
The newcomers perked up their ears.
Teacher Hu raised his arm, revealing his Spirit Rune Wristband.
Unlike the white wristbands of the newcomers or the cyan one of Ye Qing, Teacher Hu’s was blue.
Teacher Hu said, “I believe you’ve all heard the saying that the Spirit Rune Wristband and the Spirit Energy Card are among the Alliance’s greatest inventions. We won’t talk about the Spirit Energy Card for now, but do you know what’s so great about the Spirit Rune Wristband?”
The newcomers all shook their heads.
They knew some uses of the Spirit Rune Wristband, like acting as a storage tool, but not much beyond that.
Though most had spirit user elders at home who possessed such wristbands, they weren’t allowed to use them before officially registering as spirit users.
Teacher Hu continued, “Today, I’ll explain the Spirit Rune Wristband to you.
Its first function should be familiar to you. When you registered your identity, the staff probably mentioned it—that is, identity verification.”
Teacher Hu lightly tapped his wristband, and a holographic projection appeared before everyone.
The projection displayed Teacher Hu’s photo, name, age, occupation, and various other details.
Teacher Hu generously showed his information to everyone—truly selfless!
Under his guidance, the newcomers gradually learned how to use the wristband to check their personal information.
This operation wasn’t difficult.
Then Teacher Hu began introducing the wristband’s second function.
“This next feature should be very interesting to you all: the storage function.”
