Volume One Chapter One I Support My Wife’s Lofty Ambition—First Ashore, I Cut Down Her Beloved!
"The lousy folk songs you wrote are already obsolete, totally irrelevant. Your marriage ends here!" The female manager sneered.
"So, it turns out I've lost my value," he murmured.
"A so-called marriage is nothing more than a transaction, a weighing of pros and cons."
Su Le gave a bitter smile.
"Think whatever you want. Just remember, right now, you’re nothing but a burden!"
"If you’d insisted on writing songs back then, you wouldn’t have fallen so low. It was your own choices, nothing to do with Yaoyao!"
"If you sign this agreement, you’ll get three million in compensation, plus the house and car. Otherwise, you won’t get a cent!" The manager’s patience had run dry. She didn’t want to waste any more words.
"Divorce... is a major event. Let her come and speak to me herself."
Su Le leaned back in his chair and took a deep breath.
The sky, once cloudless, felt suddenly heavy and overcast.
"Su Le, we’ve given you enough dignity. Don’t be so ungrateful!" The manager slammed her hand on the table, her voice sharp.
Su Le remained silent, gazing out the window.
"You!" The manager’s expression twisted in displeasure at his attitude.
Just then—
Outside the café.
A Porsche pulled up by the curb.
A stunning woman stepped out, clad in a snow-white gown, her waist slender, her figure graceful. Her beauty was flawless, her aura extraordinary, her skin pale as jade.
In an instant, every passerby was captivated by her elegance and charm. They all stopped, phones raised, snapping pictures—each shot could easily become a coveted wallpaper for any fanboy.
Beside her walked a man with a slicked-back hairstyle, gentlemanly, guiding the way ahead.
Through the window, Su Le saw this scene, and his heart twisted as if cut by a knife.
"So, you finally decided to show up?" Su Le turned, his gaze landing on the beautiful woman entering the restaurant, walking toward him. His feelings were a tangled mess.
Five years of marriage—he had given so much.
Youth, future, even dignity.
Everything, only to end in divorce.
"Sorry, I was recording a song just now. Sorry to keep you waiting," Lu Yaoyao said as she sat down, her expression cold.
She looked at him as if he were a stranger.
"Indeed, even for a divorce you send someone else. Superstar Lu is truly a busy woman now," Su Le picked up his coffee and took a sip.
Bitter!
So bitter!
He kept adding sugar, but it only grew more bitter.
Lu Yaoyao simply pursed her lips at his gesture, a faint snort escaping her nose.
His emotions didn’t move her; if anything, they repulsed her—he seemed to be playing the victim, trying to bind her with moral guilt.
"Now we can talk properly," she said. "I know it’s hard for you to accept, but life is just like this. It can’t always go smoothly. When faced with setbacks, we must face them bravely, don’t you think?"
"We’re adults. When a marriage reaches this point, haven’t you considered that you might have made mistakes too?"
"Forget it. No point in discussing this. Let’s get to the matter at hand. After the divorce, I’ll give you compensation. If three million isn’t enough, I’ll give you five."
She produced pen and paper, wrote out a check, and slid it across the table toward Su Le.
He put down his coffee, slowly lifted his gaze, eyes fixed on the check.
"So, in your eyes, the meaning of marriage can be replaced with money," he said quietly.
"A-Le, you always claimed to understand me best, but now it’s clear—you don’t!"
"What I want, you never knew."
Lu Yaoyao shook her head in disappointment.
Between them, there was nothing left to talk about. Continuing would only waste time and wear down their years.
"Yes, how could I ever understand you..."
"I wrote songs for you, composed music for you. When your voice was failing, I wished I could give you my own tonsils..."
"When you hadn’t made a name for yourself, we couldn’t even afford a studio. We practiced songs together in underground corridors, in bathrooms—you watched me, I watched you..."
"I loved you... To see you, I moved into a bird’s eye, gazed at the wind, waited for your arrival, only to forget the hunter’s gunshot..."
As he spoke, Su Le began to sing softly. His face was wreathed in a self-mocking smile.
This love song had once touched Lu Yaoyao deeply.
But now—
She frowned as she listened, feeling a strong sense of discomfort.
"Enough. It’s meaningless!"
"Your song is merely my youth—it no longer suits who I am now."
"One day, when you move beyond the folk song stage and stand on the real stage, you’ll understand me," Lu Yaoyao cut him off, resolute.
"I heard someone’s sponsoring your entry into Phoenix Media!"
"It’s him, isn’t it?"
"So, you’re divorcing me not just because our feelings have faded, but because you’ve found someone new... No, in your logic, you’ve met someone who understands you better!" Su Le’s gaze fell on the man beside her.
"If you insist on seeing it that way, there’s nothing more to say. Your perspective is too narrow. I hope you’ll open your eyes and see more of the world," Lu Yaoyao replied, her brow furrowed, unwilling to explain further.
Some seeds, once planted, only grow darker the more you try to explain.
There was nothing more to say.
Su Le gave a bitter smile. "Very well, I agree to the divorce. I hope your career and your love flourish."
As he rose, he signed his name on the divorce agreement without hesitation.
The light in his eyes had vanished, replaced by cold indifference.
Five years of marriage could not withstand reality.
Once, marriage, family, and his beloved were his all. Now... they were not.
After signing, Su Le turned and left, his figure bleak and solitary.
Watching his receding silhouette, Lu Yaoyao sighed.
"A-Lian, am I being too cruel?"
The marriage was over, and Su Le hadn’t clung or begged, which surprised her and left her with a trace of reluctance.
After all, five years of life together!
Though she sought greater heights in her career, and could only maintain her single status through divorce—
Yet...
Her heart, ready to soar to the stage, had sunk into a valley, unable to find joy.
"Yaoyao, this is the courage an independent woman should possess!"
"Marriage is your shackle, restricting your talent. Without marriage, you can embrace the world with your own hands, conquer your fans, and rise to greater heights!"
"Only then can your career truly shine," her manager A-Lian said with a smile.
Lu Yaoyao smiled in response, convinced her choice was right.
The last trace of hesitation vanished in an instant.
Marriage must never become a stumbling block in the pursuit of dreams.
