Chapter 21: I'll Go Beg Him
"Grandfather, what are you talking about? I have a boyfriend; I’m not together with Lin Yuan." Lin Shanshan lowered her head and spoke with a hint of guilt.
Upon hearing this, Old Lin’s expression darkened. He asked, "Lin Yuan, do you not like my Shanshan?"
"Sorry, Grandfather, it was my own decision. It has nothing to do with Lin Yuan." Seeing her grandfather’s face, Lin Shanshan felt even more distressed.
"It was my decision," Lin Ruhai said as he pushed open the door and entered. "How could a boy from the mountains be worthy of my Shanshan?"
Behind him followed the tall and alluring Lin Weiwei, as well as a familiar face—Jiang Shang.
"Sigh… Lin Yuan, I let you down, and even more so your master," Old Lin sighed quietly.
"It’s alright. I believe my master foresaw this. Shanshan being with Jiang Shang will bring great benefits to your Lin family. I understand your choices." Lin Yuan replied with a calm demeanor.
Lin Ruhai was infuriated by these words. Was this boy mocking him for selling his daughter? Not only was he unrestrained in speech, but so arrogant! Did he really think no one could deal with him?
Jiang Shang, unable to hide his smugness, said, "Don’t worry, Uncle, Grandfather, I’ll take good care of Shanshan." He glanced provocatively at Lin Yuan.
Lin Ruhai was very satisfied with this son-in-law. With the Jiang family as their backing, the Lin family’s future would be secure.
Lin Yuan spoke, "Years ago, my master left a marriage contract because he foresaw Old Lin’s illness would recur, but he also foresaw your Lin family would break your promise. My master’s intention was that if Shanshan and I ended up together, I would help extend Old Lin’s life. If not, then there’s no need—the other party has already gone back on their word, so why bother treating them?"
Hearing this, Jiang Shang snorted, "No need. I’ve invited Yi Tianming—he’s a master of internal medicine. Compared to him, you’re nothing!"
Lin Ruhai sneered, "Lin Yuan, you overestimate yourself. Who do you think you are?"
Lin Weiwei watched coldly, saying nothing.
"Thank you," Lin Shanshan whispered. She knew only her boyfriend’s connections could invite Yi Tianming. For a moment, she felt torn. Should she continue with him?
"No need for thanks, but I don’t want to see him around you anymore!" Jiang Shang felt a dull ache in his litchi and looked at Lin Yuan with even greater venom. The grudge of the wasted litchi was irreconcilable!
Lin Ruhai drove Lin Yuan out, "You heard it. There’s nothing for you here. Get out!"
"Fine. Don’t regret it," Lin Yuan said, turning to leave.
Coincidentally, Yi Tianming walked in just then. Seeing Lin Yuan, Yi Tianming was startled.
"Doctor Yi, you’re here!" Lin Ruhai hurried over with a fawning smile.
"Mmm." Yi Tianming’s face was not particularly pleasant.
"Tianming!"
A crisp, soft and adorable voice rang out. A slightly chubby, doll-like beauty walked in and greeted Yi Tianming.
"Xiaoyu, long time no see," Yi Tianming smiled, secretly swallowing nervously. The youthful, bright-eyed girl made his heart race! He couldn’t help but imagine her sitting across from him, in his arms… in various poses.
"Hehe, thank you for your help that day, Tianming. This is a gift for you."
Zhou Xiaoyu presented a gift box with a charming smile.
"That day?" Yi Tianming was puzzled but didn’t show it. He opened the box—it was a green jade turtle wristwatch worth tens of thousands.
"I hope Tianming likes it," Zhou Xiaoyu said expectantly, her big eyes sparkling.
"Thank you, I do," Yi Tianming accepted it.
"Alright, prepare for Old Lin’s surgery. Everyone else, please leave." Yi Tianming threw a challenging look at Lin Yuan, full of disdain. So what if you inherited Master Jin’s mantle?
Surrounded by beauties and flattered by all, he felt: Now, I am the protagonist!
"Huh, country bumpkin, you’re here too?"
Seeing Lin Yuan, Zhou Xiaoyu was surprised.
A nurse beside Yi Tianming mocked, "Of course! This guy even boasted he could cure Old Lin, claiming he’s better than our master Yi!"
At her sarcastic tone, Lin Yuan frowned.
"Enough!" Yi Tianming rebuked.
The nurse snorted, her eyes filled with contempt for Lin Yuan.
"Tianming is so righteous, truly a good doctor’s character. Country bumpkin, you should learn from him and stop bragging," Zhou Xiaoyu started lecturing Lin Yuan.
Yet, her praise made Yi Tianming a bit embarrassed.
"I’m not that amazing," he said modestly, though he remained somewhat wary of Lin Yuan—this man’s medical skills were so advanced that if he intervened, Yi would lose any advantage. The so-called master of internal medicine would seem a joke in comparison.
"Yi Tianming, you’re the best. Old Lin’s illness keeps recurring; I hope you can cure him completely." Lin Yuan said, then walked out and left.
"Doctor Yi, you can cure my grandfather, right?" Lin Shanshan looked at him full of hope.
"Tianming, I believe in you!" Zhou Xiaoyu, vibrant and youthful, gazed at him admiringly.
"Sorry, I can only control it for now..." Yi Tianming smiled awkwardly.
Everyone was disappointed by his words.
"That’s still very impressive," Zhou Xiaoyu said.
"Better than that braggart," Jiang Shang muttered through gritted teeth.
Mentioning that guy, Lin Ruhai became angry, "That kid knows nothing about medicine!"
"It seems you all don’t know yet," a woman strode in gracefully, accompanied by an elder and several men in suits.
"Dai’er, why are you here?" Lin Weiwei was surprised to see her.
Xiao Daier wore a cool outfit, revealing much skin and drawing everyone’s gaze—especially Jiang Shang and Yi Tianming.
Xiao Daier smiled and introduced, "This is Elder Mo, just returned from Nanyue. I believe you all know him?"
"What? Elder Mo, the National Medicine Master!" Jiang Shang was shocked.
"National Medicine Master?" Zhou Xiaoyu’s mouth dropped open, blinking her big eyes adorably. "Is Tianming better, or is Elder Mo better?"
Yi Tianming cleared his throat, "We belong to different systems, so it’s hard to compare. Each has their strengths."
"Oh," Zhou Xiaoyu nodded.
"I’m not sure who’s better, but the little brother Lin Yuan you just drove away is the most skilled." Xiao Daier said.
Everyone was stunned by her words.
"No, impossible!" Lin Ruhai stammered.
Jiang Shang was also dumbfounded, "I don’t believe it."
Old Lin’s voice was weary, "Lin Yuan is a disciple of a divine physician. How could he be lacking? Perhaps, in this world, only Lin Yuan can save me."
Mo Fuqing stepped forward, took Old Lin’s pulse, and finally spoke gravely, "Indeed, with this pulmonary condition, I have about a thirty percent chance. But if it were my uncle, perhaps he’d have a full chance."
Lin Shanshan asked anxiously, "Elder Mo, who is your uncle? Can you introduce him to us?"
Xiao Daier covered her mouth with a smile, "Elder Mo’s uncle is the little brother Lin Yuan you just drove away."
At these words, Lin Shanshan’s face turned pale. Zhou Xiaoyu was stunned as well.
"Impossible!" Jiang Shang still refused to believe.
Lin Ruhai’s face shifted between hope and despair.
"Tianming, is it true?" Zhou Xiaoyu couldn’t fully believe it and asked.
"It’s true," Yi Tianming nodded.
Lin Ruhai’s face went gray as ashes; he slumped in defeat.
"No wonder, no wonder he mumbled that Grandfather’s illness could still be treated that day..." Lin Shanshan recalled that morning and, with no more hesitation, rose to chase after him. "I have to beg him!"
"Don’t go!" Jiang Shang’s face darkened. Lin Yuan had ruined his litchi, and now his girlfriend was going to beg him—he would lose all dignity.
