Chapter 28: The Evil God Apulexin
Schmidt truly lived up to his reputation as one of the elite spies of the Sion Duchy; he hadn’t even been in action for an hour. By the time Carol led his assembled Brotherhood members to quietly gather beneath the inner city walls, the city gate had already been silently opened.
He simply repeated his old tactic: taking on the appearance of a city guard, he launched a surprise attack on the soldiers watching over the Living Gate.
Of course, Schmidt had not performed any of this in front of Bill and Jera. He had already sent them ahead to scout near the supply warehouse of Dallas City, observing the movements of the garrison.
When Carol saw the city gate wide open, he made a gesture to his lieutenants. The Gillian people, wielding all sorts of crude and mismatched weapons, filed through the open gate.
At that moment, the city guards atop the walls noticed the anomaly at the gate and hastily rang the alarm bell. In an instant, cries of battle and slaughter erupted at the entrance to the inner city.
Watching the carnage unfold before him, Carol trembled with excitement, muttering under his breath, “Kill, die, you shall all become the nourishment for my lord’s resurrection.”
Carol was originally named Casal, born in an ordinary Gillian village. What was extraordinary was his mother. In their village, they had worshipped a deity called “Aplesin” for generations, and his mother was the only priestess there.
From a young age, Carol followed his mother in prayers and rituals, and final
