Chapter 122: The City of Sunlight (Part Two)
Patrick fully unleashed his spiritual power, extending the reach of his mental realm to encompass the entire Sun Temple. With a direct surge of arcane energy, he condensed the spatial forces to sever the connection between the Sun Temple and the earth beneath it, activating the core levitation array.
The ground began to tremble as a powerful arcane energy enveloped the entire boundary, occasionally surging outward with overwhelming force. The elves waiting outside watched in astonishment as the ground of the Sun Temple slowly rose, levitating steadily, instantly silencing all laughter and play.
Patrick pushed his arcane power to the limit. The enhancement crystals surrounding the Tower of Sunlight glowed with incandescent brilliance, yet the height of the levitation was still far from complete. Gritting his teeth, he continued to pour energy into the spell—he must see the floating city fully formed. For Quel’Thalas, for the high elves, and for himself, he had to ensure the ring of runes was fully activated so that the floating city could ascend intact.
This was his unwavering goal, the future of the elves, the very reason Patrick had fought so relentlessly. It was this steadfast conviction that clenched his jaw as he continued to infuse the arcane circuit with energy. History was nearing a turning point; Azeroth was about to enter a turbulent era. After the great wars, Patrick intended to preserve the vitality of the Quel’Thalas dynasty through the floating city, so that even in times of chaos, the kingdom might rise again—once more the foremost magical realm in Azeroth.
Sweat beaded across his forehead as his spiritual senses detected the foundation’s magical array fully expanding. Arcane energy gradually permeated every circuit of the rune ring; all arcane nodes began to flicker, the rune combinations fully activated. His determination crystallized, allowing his spirit to transcend and soar.
Patrick felt his spirit swell, his perception sharpening dramatically. It was as if something beyond the world was pouring into him without cease. The shackles limiting his mental realm began to dissolve, fracture, and shatter. Suddenly, he sensed his spiritual power could influence the surrounding space itself. The flow and transformation of energy answered only to his will.
He had been acknowledged—freed from his bonds, Patrick leapt forward, channeling vast arcane energy into the ring of runes. This was the strongest declaration of Patrick Cabrol in Quel’Thalas history: the floating city. After a brief pause, the entire structure ascended into the sky. Even the surrounding farms, wheat fields, and portions of the nearby Sunscar Peaks began to lift gently into the air.
The magical array continued to operate. The earthen foundation beneath the floating city hardened and compacted under the spell’s effect, its surface gleaming with a radiant magical luster. The surrounding space gradually became constrained, bound—a newborn City of Sunlight was born.
Every elf on the ground gazed skyward at the ascending Sun Temple, including those on guard beyond the safety perimeter, all wide-eyed with astonishment. Even their exclamations were replaced by stunned silence. Finally, the arcane energy crowning the city exploded like fireworks soaring into the heavens, shattering into a rain of arcane sparks that showered the earth. The overwhelming surge of magic roused the awestruck elves from their trance.
A thunderous cheer erupted, sweeping across the land. The elves were ablaze with excitement—they had witnessed a historic feat, the birth of the floating city, and they rejoiced as one.
A female elf, utterly lost in the moment, reached out as if to touch the newborn city. “My gods, this is a miracle! A true miracle!”
Some male elves stared as if they had seen the impossible. “What am I seeing? The Sunwell above, and a city floating in the air…”
An elven farmer, gazing dreamily at the levitating Sun Temple, murmured to himself, “Never has any elf in Silvermoon tilled the earth in the sky. I suppose I am the very first in Quel’Thalas.”
In Arelia’s blue eyes flickered a hint of reverie as she softly licked her lips.
Meanwhile, Edonis and Candris, two ‘brothers’, embraced each other with excitement, both grateful for their wise choice. As their lord’s fortunes grew, so too did their own value rise like the tide.
Yanida and Quelrintis’s minds seemed overwhelmed, utterly unprepared for the revelation that their once-oppressed lord in Silvermoon was so formidable. With the floating city completed, Quel’Thalas now had a dominant power taking shape.
Tyresta’s first reaction to the floating city was shock, quickly replaced by disdain toward Selvor: “The royal family remains shortsighted, lacking true understanding of their own subjects. They only seek to balance factions and stabilize the situation.”
As a representative of the royal house, she held little advantage within the Sun Temple. The elves in the Tower of Sunlight treated her as a lofty Silvermoon ambassador. Though not outright excluded, she was distanced and regarded with reserved respect by other elves who frequented the tower.
Beside her, Priestess Liadriel smiled brightly: “With Lord Patrick Cabrol’s aid, the Dawnblade family will shine once more.”
…
Chief Ox, a keen judge of talent, had long collaborated with Patrick in secret. Amidst the council’s oppression, Master Ox extended an olive branch. Though mutually beneficial, this alliance helped Patrick reduce his losses. Charity in hardship often leads to greater rewards and wins hearts, after all.
Suddenly, the entire Ghostlands trembled as the ground shook. Taerlin, Antharas, Anorien, and the Andrilin estate were among the first to witness the Sun Temple’s ascension. All elves gazed toward the temple, witnessing the massive city slowly rise into the sky.
Some elves dropped their bread without noticing, entranced by the floating city’s majestic ascent.
The Sun Temple climbed higher and higher, its shadow shrinking on the earth below. It was enveloped in a faint azure arcane shield. Patrick had long planned this: unless granted special permission or bearing a talisman crafted by the Sunlight Council, no flying units were permitted above the floating city.
This precaution was not without reason. Years ago, Naozu dispatched Talon Bloodfang to lead elite troops to Dalaran to seize the Scepter of Sargeras, Medivh’s Tome, and the Eye of Dalaran. After Talon seized the Eye, he was discovered by the archmages of Dalaran.
As the renowned archmages cornered Talon and his minions on a high platform anchored by dimensional magic, prepared to deal with the thieves, Deathwing’s black dragon army arrived just in time, rescuing the orc invaders. The archmages could only watch helplessly as the black dragons departed.
Since then, no flying units had been seen above Dalaran’s skies. Patrick’s restrictions were simply a preventive measure, aiming to mitigate damage from any unforeseen incidents.
Thus, the floating city of Sunlight rose majestic and unchallenged, heralding a new era for Quel’Thalas and all its people.
