Chen Hao stared at the burly man’s ankle, crushed and twisted out of shape by the old man’s grip, and immediately felt a chill run up his spine. That had to hurt...

Fortunately, he had not insulted the old man earlier, let alone made a move against him. Otherwise, Chen Hao was certain that he would have been the one in trouble.

Still, the burly man whose hands and feet had been broken by the old man was undeniably tough. Aside from the agonized howl he had let out at the instant his limbs were snapped, he had clenched his teeth and remained silent once he had adjusted to the pain. He merely glared furiously at the old man, his eyes so vicious that he looked ready to swallow him alive.

Chen Hao truly could not understand where the man had gotten such a tremendous temper. First he had picked a fight with Chen Hao, and then with the old man. This really was a case of Heaven forgiving sins, but people bringing ruin upon themselves.

It was not that Chen Hao was taking pleasure in another’s misfortune, but seeing the burly man disciplined by an old man he had looked down on still felt rather satisfying. In any event, even if the old man had not taught him a lesson, Chen Hao would not have gone easy on him later. Since someone else had taken care of it for him, Chen Hao was naturally happy to stand aside and enjoy the respite.

However, after witnessing the old man’s skill, Chen Hao could not help but feel genuine admiration for this unremarkable-looking, hot-tempered, unpredictable old man.

The ancients truly had not deceived him. One should never provoke the elderly or children. That famous saying had been proven time and again in Grandmaster Gu Long’s martial-arts novels.

After crushing the burly man’s wrist and ankle, the old man made no further move. He released him, lightly dusted off his hands, and allowed the man to lie there in agony.

As for the burly man’s murderous glare, the old man did not care in the slightest.

“Boy! You’d better watch your attitude when dealing with an old man from now on. Today, I happen to be in a good mood. After watching the two of you put on such an entertaining little sex show, I’m feeling quite pleased, so I won’t quibble with you. On any other day, you could forget about keeping these two arms and two legs.”

The old man calmly met the burly man’s hostile gaze.

“If you want revenge, this old man will be waiting for you at any time. Though, judging by the look of things, you probably won’t have the opportunity in this lifetime.

“You’re nearly thirty, yet this is all you’ve got? You’re nowhere near as capable as I was when I was young. Clearly, your talent is nothing special either. If it weren’t for your decent physical condition, you might not even be better than an ordinary person.

“Today’s lesson is not meant merely to punish you. It is a warning. I hope that, from now on, you’ll think things through before you act and stop being so reckless. Whether the person you meet is someone like me or merely an ordinary old man, the consequences would be ones you would not want to see.

“If you meet me, you cripple your own hands and feet. If you meet an ordinary person, you might leave them disabled or with a concussion. Tell me, is it worth doing all that just to vent your anger for a moment?”

The burly man was about to speak, but the talkative old man waved a hand and cut him off again.

“Don’t be dissatisfied. Am I wrong?”

“No...” The burly man was just about to say something when the old man, growing impatient, planted one foot directly on his injured ankle. Chen Hao felt a sympathetic ache in his groin.

“When an old man is speaking, young people do not interrupt! What terrible manners! Were you about to say that your father is Li Gang? That your family’s influence reaches the heavens and that you don’t care a bit about ordinary people? Hmph! All you have is the glory inherited from your father. What is there to be proud of? Perhaps your birth is extraordinary—or perhaps it is your father’s that is extraordinary.

“But you had better understand this clearly: everything you possess now was not earned through your own diligence. It was all passed down from the previous generation.

“Your parents’ generation were the true heroes who built the family fortune through hard work. You merely happened to be born into a good family. History is full of countless examples of spoiled heirs squandering everything their families built. Do you want to follow in their footsteps?”

This old man...

The burly man had not even opened his mouth, yet Chen Hao was already complaining inwardly. How had the conversation strayed so far? The man had not said a word, but the old man had somehow imagined everything he intended to say and was now arguing his case with complete confidence.

And to make the burly man keep quiet, he had actually stepped on his wound.

Terrifying!

Chen Hao really did not want to remain any longer with these two people, one old and one young, who clearly had something wrong with their heads. He still had a whole pile of things to do.

Thus, Chen Hao intended to slip away while the old man was lecturing the burly man. But before he could even lift a foot, the slightest movement of his shoulder was noticed by the old man.

“Hey, you over there! What do you think you’re doing?”

Facing Chen Hao, the old man put away his smiling expression and once again revealed the stern attitude he had displayed at the beginning.

After what had just happened, Chen Hao naturally understood that the old man was not someone who bullied the weak and feared the strong. Therefore, no matter what tone the old man used with him, Chen Hao did not feel offended. Someone with such formidable abilities was entitled to speak harshly if he wished.

So, after the old man asked the question, Chen Hao immediately put on a fawning smile.

“What can I do for you, sir?”

“You’re planning to leave just like that?” the old man asked.

“Ah! Well... I... I saw that there was nothing left for me to do here, so I thought I’d...” Chen Hao said awkwardly.

“Hmph!” The old man snorted. “Who said there’s nothing left to do? Can’t you see that this big idiot is injured? Does that not count as something? Why do young people have so little compassion?”

As he spoke, the old man continued twisting his foot against the burly man’s ankle.

Chen Hao felt a shiver of revulsion.

“And he calls me heartless? The man lying on the ground was injured by him, wasn’t he? Compared with him, I’m practically a little lamb.”

Of course, Chen Hao did not dare say that aloud. He could only ask with a miserable expression, “What exactly do you want me to do, sir?”

“What do you think? Naturally, you’re going to take this big fellow to see a doctor!” the old man declared righteously, as though he had not been the one to attack him moments earlier.

“Uh...” Chen Hao looked troubled. “I don’t even know him, and we had an unpleasant encounter earlier. Besides... I wasn’t the one who hit him! Why should I take him to the doctor?”

“You little brat, are you trying to shirk responsibility? You didn’t hit him? Then was it me... Cough, cough! Fine, I was the one who hit him, but I did it for your sake, didn’t I?”

“What?!” Chen Hao stared blankly. “For my sake?”

The old man nodded.

“Of course it was for your sake. Think about it! If you hadn’t gotten into a dispute with this big fellow, would I have come over to question the two of you?

“If I hadn’t come to question you, would this big fellow have insulted me?

“If he hadn’t insulted me, would I have ignored what he said?

“If I had paid attention to him, would he have attacked me?

“If he hadn’t attacked me, would I have fought back?

“If I hadn’t fought back, would he have been injured?

“If he hadn’t been injured, would you still need to take him to the doctor?”

The old man’s string of questions left Chen Hao speechless. When he thought about it, the argument seemed to make a certain amount of sense.

And yet, something about it still felt wrong.

Seeing that the old man was about to continue, Chen Hao hurriedly cut him off.

“All right, old man, you don’t need to say any more. I’ll take him to find a doctor.”

Only then did the old man nod in satisfaction.

“That’s more like it! You know where to find a doctor, right? You don’t need me to show you the way?”

“Yes, yes, I know!” Chen Hao nodded repeatedly.

He was not merely placating the old man. High-end hotels like this one all had professional medical staff. He only needed to ask at the hotel lobby and they would tell him where to find a doctor.

Chen Hao did not bother saying anything more to the old man. After giving him a brief greeting, he prepared to help the burly man up from the floor. But just as he reached out, the burly man rejected him instead.

“I don’t need help from a bastard like you!”

With that, he shoved away Chen Hao’s outstretched hands.

Fine! If you don’t want my help, I didn’t particularly want to help you in the first place. Since you’ve refused, that’s even better.

Chen Hao looked up excitedly.

“Sir, you see? He doesn’t want my help. Why don’t we just forget it? We could leave this big fellow, who had no idea of his own limits and dared to offend you, right here?”

“Hmph!” The old man flung out a hand, and his voice suddenly rose an entire octave. “Leave him here? Don’t you know this is the place I’m responsible for guarding? If my supervisor sees a fully grown man abandoned here, I’ll have my wages docked! No, that won’t do. If he refuses to go, can’t you use force?”

“What?” Chen Hao was stunned once again.

“What a nuisance!” The old man shook his head. He took two steps forward, raised his foot, and struck the burly man at the back of the neck.

His control was astonishingly precise. The blow neither injured the man nor caused any lasting harm, yet it rendered him unconscious. Chen Hao’s eyes lit up when he saw it.

But immediately afterward, Chen Hao felt miserable again. There was no way around it now—he would have to take the man to the doctor himself.

If the burly man had cooperated, Chen Hao could at least have saved some effort by letting him lean on him as they went. But now that the man was unconscious, Chen Hao would probably have to carry him.

Chen Hao was fairly strong, but the burly man stood at least six feet three and probably weighed around two hundred pounds. This was really too much.

And there was another troublesome matter. If he carried an unconscious man to the doctor, would the doctor assume that Chen Hao had knocked him out and call the police?

Considering how unpleasant things had been between them earlier, there was an eighty percent chance that the burly man would refuse to testify on Chen Hao’s behalf after waking up. He might even pin the blame on him.

Today was truly one hell of an unlucky day. And it was all because of Dong Xin. If he had not met her, he would not have gone out to eat with her, would not have helped drive her car back, would not have encountered this deranged brute, and certainly would not have had to take him to the doctor.

Dong Xin, just you wait!
