Chapter Forty-Seven: The Child Feels Wronged

The company was named "Heavenly Radiance Decor," located on the eighteenth floor of an office building. The floor number was considered auspicious, symbolizing prosperity.
Ding—
Li Can stepped out of the elevator and immediately spotted "Heavenly Radiance Decor" to his right. The company wasn't large; a receptionist desk stood at the entrance, and the woman behind it seemed bored, fiddling with her phone.
As he entered, the workspace to the left was in full view. Several people, who looked like designers, were working on computers, drawing what appeared to be floor plans of houses.
"Hello, who are you looking for?" The receptionist put down her phone and asked politely.
"I'm here for Xu Yang." Li Can, having searched since morning, was already out of patience and didn't bother with pleasantries.
"Xu Yang? There's no one by that name here." The receptionist looked utterly surprised.
Damn, I knew it would turn out like this!
"Sorry for the trouble." Li Can forced a bitter smile, turned around, and left.
The diary had clearly stated that Xu Yang's company was next to the station in Flowerfield District. Had Liu Huadong made a mistake? That didn't seem likely.
Li Can waited by the elevator, unable to suppress a growing restlessness. He had just received a call from Su Rui, saying that the restaurant was having an incredible day and they might sell out of everything tonight. In other words, the restaurant would run out of stock tomorrow!
It wasn't that they couldn't serve regular dishes, but since the monster ingredients had gained such a reputation, it didn't make sense to stop offering them.
Ding—
The elevator doors opened, and five or six young men in their twenties stepped out. They were covered in tattoos and wore fierce expressions. One of them shot Li Can a hostile glare.
Li Can stared back impassively.
"What are you gawking at? Move," one of them snarled.
The young man shifted his gaze, and the group stormed into Heavenly Radiance Decor. Almost immediately, shouts and the sounds of smashing came from inside.
"So they came just to cause trouble," Li Can muttered, relieved he'd left early. Otherwise, he might have gotten dragged into something messy.
But just as he stepped into the elevator, without even pressing the floor button, the commotion inside the company grew louder.
"Where's that bastard Xu Yang? Get him out here to pay his debts!"
Xu Yang?
Li Can paused. Looks like he'd been lied to!
"Everyone, General Manager Xu really isn't here..."
"There he is! Hiding in the restroom!"
"Drag him out—beat him first, then we'll talk."

Bang, bang, bang—
"Don't hit me, don't hit me! I'll pay, I swear!"
"Then start paying up!"
"Ouch, stop! I have to go to the bank!"
"Fine, we'll go with you. Don't try any tricks or we'll beat you to death."
Tap, tap, tap—
Hearing the chaotic footsteps approaching, Li Can deliberately kept his finger pressed on the "Open" button, preventing the elevator doors from closing.
Soon, the group squeezed into the elevator, and Li Can retreated into the corner.
"Smart guy, huh? Think the most dangerous place is the safest?" sneered the young man at the door as he pressed the "Close" button and selected Floor B2—likely the parking lot.
His companions laughed, faces twisted in open mockery.
Li Can remained silent in the corner, his gaze fixed on a middle-aged man clutching his stomach with his right hand and covering his left eye with his left, clearly in agony.
That must be Xu Yang, in his thirties, with slicked-back hair, surrounded by the others, forcing a submissive, cringing smile—the picture of humiliation.
"Is this guy really a monster?" Li Can wondered. Remembering his first encounter with Liu Huadong, the latter had shown incredible strength even without revealing his true form—certainly not someone these punks could subdue so easily.
Maybe he's in disguise, he thought.
The elevator stopped a few times along the way; anyone waiting outside took one look at the surly group inside and wisely chose not to get in.
The young men looked quite pleased with themselves, breaking into laughter whenever the doors closed again.
Li Can exited the elevator on the first floor.
...
Ding—
They reached B2.
A cold wind swept in as the elevator doors opened, relieving the stuffy air inside.
"Move."
The group pushed Xu Yang out, but barely had they gone a few steps when a hooded figure burst from the fire exit. Moving with astonishing speed, he vaulted off the wall, launching himself into the crowd and, in the blink of an eye, knocked three men down with terrifying force.
Without pause, he unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, flattening the rest, then grabbed Xu Yang by the collar and dragged him back into the elevator.
It all happened so quickly—ten seconds at most. By the time the group struggled to their feet, the elevator doors had already closed.
"Damn, who the hell was that? He was a monster—I didn't even have the guts to fight back."
"Fight back? With moves like that, he's definitely professionally trained!"
"So what now?"
"What do you mean, what now? We're just debt collectors, not hired to get ourselves killed! Forget it—whoever wants to handle this can, I'm out."

The group cursed under their breath, helping each other up and limping away, not even considering a chase.
What a joke—someone who could take them all down in moments? Who would dare pursue him?
...
Ding—
The elevator stopped at the eighteenth floor.
The mysterious figure dragged Xu Yang into the fire escape.
"Upstairs."
"Sir, who are you? If you're here to collect, I'll take you to get the money," Xu Yang stammered, having witnessed everything and now trembling in terror.
The stranger lowered his hood, revealing a refined face—it was Li Can, who had exited the elevator at the first floor.
He had originally intended to act in the elevator and take Xu Yang for a private interrogation, but noticed the security camera inside. To avoid exposing himself, he chose this way to abduct him.
Xu Yang, after all, held an official position as company boss. If he disappeared without explanation, it would attract unwanted attention, especially from his employees.
"Upstairs," Li Can repeated, ignoring his pleas and forcing Xu Yang up the stairs.
Stopping at the eighteenth floor was a calculated misdirection, giving the thugs the illusion that Xu Yang had returned to the office, when in fact he had not.
After about ten minutes, Li Can and Xu Yang reached the rooftop of the office building.
The rooftop was encircled by parapet walls, equipped with several central air conditioning units and solar panels.
Creak—
Li Can locked the door behind them and stared unwaveringly at Xu Yang, who was slumped on the ground, face ashen, either from climbing over twenty flights of stairs or from sheer terror.
"So, still planning to keep up the act?"
"S-sir, please, can we talk downstairs? The wind is too strong up here." Xu Yang was close to tears.
"Impressively stoic," Li Can said flatly, stepping in front of him and, with one hand, hoisting him up from the ground. His right hand, hidden behind his back, had already summoned the White Flame, ready to strike if Xu Yang made any move.
"N-no, please, sir, spare me! I don't want to die!"
Suddenly, Xu Yang broke down, sobbing and struggling frantically. There was a faint sound—like water dripping.
Li Can looked down in astonishment.
Damn.
He had actually wet himself.
And the splash had landed on Li Can's shoe.
