Chapter Four
Shen Jinfeng naturally heard the team members chime in one after another that they had “nothing to eat.”
In other words, the two slices of bread and three crackers he had just fished out of his backpack were the only remaining dry rations.
What was even worse was that they had all been swept onto this beach by the tide; their physical exhaustion and overall condition were likely much the same.
He suppressed his slightly trembling fingertips.
Any movement a little too sharp caused a wave of dizziness and a faint sense of nausea.
The original owner of this body was in mediocre physical shape, Shen Jinfeng judged internally.
It didn’t even feel like it matched the physical prowess required for mastery in Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, and the like.
However, he couldn’t determine how long the original body had been unconscious; perhaps it was due to extreme prior exertion.
If that were the case, weren’t the others even worse off? They should be in an even more dire state.
He watched the others struggling to stand or sitting in a disheveled heap, their faces filled with despair after learning the bad news that none of their teammates had food either.
He Erwang forced himself to pull it together. “We have to think of a way to find food.”
Something felt off.
Shen Jinfeng quietly observed the group, suddenly locking eyes with a pair of pupils staring at him unblinkingly.
It was Qi Xiu.
The moment their eyes met, Qi Xiu’s body trembled involuntarily, and he tried to look away. He was clearly somewhat afraid.
Yet, after hesitating for two seconds, he looked at Shen Jinfeng with a pleading expression.
It seemed he had struggled for a long time before making up his mind, and he spoke in a very small voice: “Boss, I’m so hungry.”
As soon as he said this, Gu Shengsheng, who was closest to him, froze, then replied in a testy tone: “I’m your boss, and I’m starving to death too.”
“Ah?” Qi Xiu shook his head quickly. “Gu Shengsheng, I wasn’t talking to you.”
He and Gu Shengsheng were classmates, and he had come to the deserted island because Gu Shengsheng promised him money for tuition. The two could, at best, be described as having an employer-employee relationship. He had never called Gu Shengsheng “Boss” before.
Gu Shengsheng followed his gaze and saw Shen Jinfeng standing not far away, leaning against a tree.
Oh right, their team had a leader—Shen Jinfeng.
[Finally someone noticed Shen Jinfeng. Why aren’t any of you asking him if he has food???]
[I’m really curious now, what will Shen Jinfeng do? He wouldn’t just say “I don’t have any food either” like the others, would he? After all, it’s quite clear that all the team’s food is with him. How many meals could that little bit possibly last? It’s very likely he’ll just hoard it all for himself.]
[I’m betting on hoarding +1. To be honest, most people wouldn’t be selfless enough to give up food in this situation, right?]
[Bullshit. With that tiny amount of food, how long could he survive by hoarding it alone? If the team leader really did that, he’d just be attacked by everyone. Anyone with half a brain wouldn’t do that.]
[The wise move now would be to distribute the food properly. This is a perfect opportunity to manipulate public sentiment and establish authority.]
[You guys are all analyzing this so seriously. Am I the only one wondering why Qi Xiu chose to ask Shen Jinfeng for help? Isn’t he Gu Shengsheng’s little sidekick?]
[Do you even have to ask? His starting persona is timid and cowardly. He’s too scared to find food himself, so of course he has to ask the strong for help. Isn’t Shen Jinfeng at least the strongest-looking one here?]
Without a doubt, the first conflict of the third season of *What Kind of Person Are You* had arrived.
Shen Jinfeng, unaware that he was already the center of everyone’s attention, heard Qi Xiu repeat to him, “Boss, I’m so hungry.”
Interesting.
Qi Xiu didn’t seem certain that he had food, but he was the first person who came to mind for help due to hunger.
This kid was a bit timid, and his voice was very soft, but he had repeated it twice. The look he gave him was one of complete, unreserved trust, as if he were clutching at a straw for survival in this predicament.
Shen Jinfeng was used to being a lone wolf when completing missions and rarely faced such pleas for help or displays of trust.
He lowered his head and gave a faint response.
“I have food.”
The gazes of the others instantly turned toward him.
Shen Jinfeng picked up the small backpack he had tossed aside after checking it, unzipped it, and shook it upside down.
Everything in the bag fell to the ground.
A flashlight, a multi-tool knife, a sun hat, a pair of sunglasses, a bag of emergency blankets, a box of cold medicine, and a box of painkillers.
There was even a power bank; he didn’t know if it was broken, but it seemed useless anyway since their phones were lost.
The original owner was an expert in wilderness survival, so he was naturally well-prepared.
However, most of the supplies were in a larger backpack... which was now likely at the bottom of the sea.
It was already impressive that the small carry-on bag could hold this much.
But the others had no interest in these things now.
Their eyes were fixed tightly on the food shaken out of the bag, gleaming with intensity.
One bottle of mineral water, two bags of bread, and three compressed biscuits.
It was very meager.
But in the current situation, it was incredibly precious.
However, the items had been produced by Shen Jinfeng and were his personal property.
Having not yet experienced a life-or-death crisis and still retaining their basic humanity and moral compass, the others swallowed hard.
Even Qi Xiu, who had just taken the initiative to tell Shen Jinfeng he was hungry, felt too embarrassed to ask if he could share in the food.
Shen Jinfeng didn’t know that the others were having an internal battle of conscience.
He casually beckoned to them: “Come over and share the food.”
“Really?!” He Erwang was the first to exclaim in surprise.
Shen Jinfeng nodded.
He Erwang moved with weak, heavy steps, standing in front of Shen Jinfeng, feeling as if strength had been injected into his body.
With the first person setting the example, the others quickly gathered before Shen Jinfeng, all looking at him with eager eyes.
Suddenly feeling five pairs of expectant gazes, Shen Jinfeng pursed his lips uncomfortably and pointed to the ground. “Everyone, sit down.”
The five of them sat down obediently, forming a circle.
Watching the screen, Sun Xinping’s mouth twitched. “Why are they all acting so well-behaved?”
Little Li looked at the harmonious scene on the screen and smiled flatteringly. “It’s your brilliance, Director, the way you designed it.”
[Is Shen Jinfeng really willing to take his own food and share it with everyone?]
[What’s strange about that? One of the core aspects of Shen Jinfeng’s initial persona is that he is a team player who protects his teammates. If his persona failed right at the start, I can’t imagine—he’d likely be completely unsalvageable.]
[Now I’m just curious how he’s going to divide it.]
Under the high-definition camera, Shen Jinfeng suddenly reached out and plucked a handful of leaves from the branch he had been leaning against.
[??? What is he doing?]
In the blink of an eye, his fingers moved with such speed that no one could clearly see his actions, and he fashioned several leaves into small bowl shapes.
After finishing one, he placed it on the ground and proceeded to make a second and third. He only stopped after making a full six.
To the naked eye, the six bowls were almost identical in shape and size.
The viewers realized what was happening.
[Is he going to divide the food?]
[I didn’t know Shen Jinfeng was so good at handicrafts.]
It was indeed for dividing food, though he was dividing the water.
Shen Jinfeng unscrewed the mineral water bottle and poured water into the six bowls, explaining concisely: “Before we find a water source, we have to ration this bottle of mineral water.”
Each bowl was filled with exactly one-third, the levels looking nearly indistinguishable to the naked eye.
Without waiting for them to respond, he picked up the first bowl of water along with a piece of compressed biscuit and handed it to the nearest person, Mo Fan. “This is yours.”
Mo Fan quickly took it, his face full of gratitude. “Thank you, Boss!”
Next was He Erwang.
He Erwang hesitated. In his memory, he had never called anyone “Boss.”
He didn’t know why, but he felt it was a bit difficult to say the words “Thank you, Boss.”
But receiving a favor—especially in this environment, which could be considered a life-saving grace—required one to be grateful.
The other teammates had already called him Boss.
He was a polite person who knew how to be grateful.
After struggling for a moment, He Erwang closed his eyes, opened them, and spoke loudly and crisply: “Thank you, Boss!”
The flashy purple-haired youth had delicate features, his face full of smiles, his tone grateful yet slightly uncomfortable.
He looked exactly like a rebellious child who had turned over a new leaf after a good scolding.
Shen Jinfeng’s eyes flickered, suppressing the urge to reach out and ruffle the purple hair.
“You’re welcome,” he replied.
The live chat was almost doubled over in laughter.
[Hahahahahaha, who has ever seen He Erwang like this?]
[I took a screenshot! I’m going to turn it into an emoji and post it to his Weibo every day once he gets out!]
[He Erwang being obedient.jpg, He Erwang being a sycophant.jpg, He Erwang being polite.jpg]
[I’m dying. When he gets out of *What Kind of Person Are You* and sees that he actually called Shen Jinfeng “Boss,” what will his expression be?]
Of course, the current He Erwang didn’t know that.
He carefully took the water and the compressed biscuit, gently tearing it open with a sense of reverence.
Then came Gu Shengsheng and Qi Xiu.
And finally, it was the turn of the sixth guest, who hadn’t appeared until now.
Shen Jinfeng held the water and bread out to the last companion. “This is yours.”
Unexpectedly, he met with a refusal.
“What about you?” The last companion didn’t reach out to take it, looking at Shen Jinfeng with a heavy gaze. “There’s no food left. If you give the last portion to me, what will you eat?”
Shen Jinfeng’s fingertips trembled, and he lowered his head, replying calmly: “I’m fine. You eat first.”
In a brief glance, he caught the appearance of this final companion.
The young man had jet-black hair with no strands falling over his forehead, revealing a smooth, high brow and cold, distant eyes. His features were sharp and defined, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs; his aura was stoic and reserved.
He was strikingly handsome, a presence that stood out even in a team where everyone was exceptionally good-looking.
But the tone he used when speaking... Shen Jinfeng couldn’t find the right adjective; it just felt strange and very uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable, probably because...
He knew from the memories he had received that this last companion liked him.
Or rather, was secretly in love with him.
Shen Jinfeng had rich experience in completing missions, but in 999 "quick-transmigration" worlds, he had never once encountered love.
Heaven knows, the “surprise” that 888 mentioned was actually the original owner having left behind a debt of unrequited love!!!
The last companion, Qin Ye, had joined this expedition because he was secretly in love with the original owner, only to end up stranded on a deserted island.
Shen Jinfeng observed the somewhat disheveled clothes of the young man opposite him.
He felt that the original owner was quite the scoundrel.
But Qin Ye still hadn’t accepted the food.
Shen Jinfeng directly shoved the bread into Qin Ye’s arms. “I’m not hungry. You eat.”
Qin Ye froze for a moment, subconsciously reaching out to catch it.
He looked at the insistent Shen Jinfeng and didn’t refuse again.
Shen Jinfeng let out a breath of relief.
Then, he watched as Qin Ye tore open the packaging, broke the bread into two halves, and handed the larger half back to him.
“We’ll each have half.”
“If you don’t eat, I won’t either,” he added.
Shen Jinfeng: “!”
He realized his memory hadn’t failed him.
At a juncture like this, giving him the larger portion of food—Qin Ye really was secretly in love with him.
