Inside, the noise paused briefly before a woman coughed and called out, “Please come in.”

He Si entered carrying some documents.

Inside was a large office area with six workstations—four were empty, while two near the entrance were occupied by a man and a woman.

The man looked relatively young; the woman appeared slightly older.

They both looked up, and upon seeing He Si’s face, were momentarily stunned.

He Si raised the papers in his hand. “I’m from Marriott. Manager Yang asked me to deliver the materials for the annual party.”

“Oh, so it’s you,” the woman said as she stood and took the documents from He Si, teasingly remarking, “I never imagined Marriott would have such a handsome guy at this level. I don’t recall ever noticing before.”

He Si replied, “I’m an intern. I’m graduating soon and just joined Marriott this year.”

“So you’re part of this year’s graduating class?” the woman asked.

He Si nodded.

“You’re so young,” she said, surprised, glancing at him a couple more times.

He Si was quite tall, nearly 1.9 meters. From afar, he looked tall and slender, but up close, his broad shoulders gave off a robust energy. The woman was average height but wore heels, and standing next to He Si, she appeared petite by comparison.

She admitted to herself that she had some stereotypes; He Si was very different from the lanky male college students she’d met before.

He looked more like a playboy who had been working for years, frequently hitting the gym and bars, posting physique photos on social media.

But unlike those types, he had a fresh, attractive, and youthful face.

The woman placed the documents on the desk and poured He Si a glass of water, smiling politely. “Thanks for making the trip all the way here. Was it far?”

“Not really, the subway is very convenient,” He Si said.

He took a sip of water, quietly observing her expression. He wasn’t sure whether he should leave or stay.

However, the manager had said to hand the materials over to the boss, and neither of these two seemed to be the boss. Thinking this, He Si did not rush out.

Sure enough, the woman returned to her seat but didn’t sit down. Instead, she picked up a copy of the script and began flipping through it, asking He Si several related questions.

He answered carefully.

“By the way,” the woman said, “have you heard of Jiayi?”

He Si nodded. “I looked it up online, but I don’t know much beyond that.”

“You know what kind of company we are, right?”

“Yes.”

“Well, your script will probably need a major rewrite,” she said, no longer flipping through the pages. “Jiayi signed some influencers this year, some with huge followings. They’ll all be at the event. We plan to livestream and have them each shoot some videos. So some parts of this script can be cut, but others must be added, especially at the opening to allow enough time and to include a few creative segments.”

The young man was also flipping through the script and added, “The raffle section needs changing too. The prize budget has increased this year.”

The woman sighed, “That means remaking the schedule?”

The man shrugged helplessly.

The mood dipped briefly; both wore the weariness and hardships of salaried workers on their faces. Then He Si, unexpectedly, pulled out a pen and a small notebook from somewhere. Holding the notebook with his left hand, he wrote very seriously.

The two stared silently.

He Si finished noting the key points, quickly reviewed them to confirm accuracy, then asked the woman, “Anything else?”

The woman was a bit speechless and thought, are even interns this dedicated now?

But then she reconsidered. He Si had brought three identical copies of the materials, neatly packed in folders. He seemed meticulous—a trait that explained why Yang Heyan from Marriott trusted him. Many at Jiayi knew Yang Heyan was very picky. It wasn’t that she didn’t want an assistant, but every assistant she hired ended up scared off.

“Your framework is okay. It’s just the content that needs replacing and filling in,” the woman said after some thought. “Here’s the plan: we’ll draft a simple plan first, then you can come over again. We’ll have a meeting to make sure everything we need is included. The rest doesn’t matter so much.”

He Si packed away his notebook and pen. “Okay.”

The woman asked, “Will you come, or will Manager Yang come?”

The manager was very busy; for major tasks like securing the venue, he would definitely handle it personally. For smaller matters, he wouldn’t waste time.

He Si understood and replied, “I’ll come.”

“Leave your phone number then.” She tore off a sticky note and handed it to him.

He Si wrote down his mobile number.

The woman looked at the note. “Is this also your WeChat ID?”

“Yes, just search this number directly.”

After everything was settled, the boss still didn’t show up. He Si realized the boss probably wasn’t coming and had merely sent two assistants to handle things. He didn’t linger, tossed the empty paper cup into the trash, greeted them, and left the office.

The office building was large, evident from the number of elevators.

There were six elevators in total, two running.

He Si entered one; as the doors closed with a ding, the neighboring elevator doors slowly opened. Shen Zhi stepped out.

He went straight back to the office and pushed the door open.

Assistant Cen and Assistant Bi were chatting by the water cooler, seemingly discussing the annual party. Hearing the noise, they turned their heads in unison, and upon seeing Shen Zhi, immediately straightened their expressions, dropping their casual demeanor, and greeted him respectfully, “President Shen.”

Shen Zhi nodded and asked as he walked inside, “Has Marriott’s person been here?”

“He just left,” Assistant Cen quickly put down her cup and picked up a set of documents. “The script has been delivered. I’ve read it through; there are many changes needed. We told him to go back first, and later I’ll list our requirements for him to come back and discuss the details.”

Shen Zhi stopped and reached out his hand.

Assistant Cen handed over the documents.

Standing there, Shen Zhi didn’t skim the pages like Assistant Cen. Instead, he carefully read through the first five or six pages.

Yang Heyan’s capabilities were widely recognized, but despite the business dealings between Marriott and Jiayi, there was a barrier. Yang Heyan wasn’t a Jiayi employee. This script was good on its own but felt like expecting apples and getting a bushel of pears under the current circumstances.

Such an important task shouldn’t have been assigned to Marriott in the first place. Jiayi had undergone several personnel changes this year and couldn’t find anyone to take it on, so it fell to Yang Heyan.

“This annual party is very important. You need to be more attentive and communicate more with Marriott,” Shen Zhi said, holding onto the documents instead of returning them as he opened his office door.

Halfway inside, he turned back and reminded them, “Also, keep the budget under control.”

Assistant Cen promptly responded.

Shen Zhi glanced at the wall clock and said, “It’s late. Thanks for coming in to work overtime today. You can all go home now.”

Back in his office, Shen Zhi finished up the unfinished work. An hour later, he closed his computer and left.

Assistant Cen and Assistant Bi had already left, and the large office was very quiet.

Shen Zhi turned off all the lights in his office. While waiting for the elevator, he received a call from his aunt.

“Shen Zhi, are you done for the day?” his aunt said excitedly. “If you have time now, check the messages I sent you.”

“What messages?” Shen Zhi asked.

“Of course, WeChat messages,” his aunt teased. “You’ll know once you see them.”

After hanging up, Shen Zhi opened WeChat. His chat with his aunt showed over a dozen unread messages, mostly photos—all of the same young man.

His aunt was very excited and hadn’t sent text, only several voice messages.

“Shen Zhi, this is the son of one of my acquaintances. I just asked—he’s single. I heard he’s a bit picky and hasn’t dated many people. Take a look and see if he’s suitable. If yes, I’ll send your photo to her.”

“I asked carefully. This young man works at the prosecutor’s office, holds a respectable position. His parents and I have known each other for a long time, so we know each other’s background. No need to worry about other things.”

“Remember to take a look. I want to give them an answer soon.”

As he finished listening, a string of text messages popped up from his aunt:

[Aunt: Have you seen them yet?]

[Aunt: How is it?]

[Aunt: I’ll send your photo over then. If it works out, they’ll arrange a meeting this month.]

Shen Zhi was speechless.

Meanwhile, He Si was still on the road, relaying the boss assistant’s message to the manager. By the time he got home, it was past nine at night.

He was exhausted, took a shower, and lay down. A WeChat notification popped up—a friend request from someone named Cen Chen.

He accepted and chatted briefly, learning she was the female assistant.

Assistant Cen immediately created a group chat with eight others besides the two of them. She didn’t bother introducing anyone but tagged He Si, asking him to add Manager Yang and the others responsible for the annual party.

Page 3/3

He Si added Manager Yang and three others from the office.

Perhaps it was late and a weekend, the group was quiet—no one spoke.

He Si was about to put down his phone when a message popped up:

[Moderation Needed: Please add your full names.]

Immediately, everyone chimed in.

[Jiayi - Cen Chen: Received.]

[Jiayi - Bi Mingwen: Received.]

...

[Marriott - Yang Heyan: Received.]

He Si was speechless.

He recalled the manager just complaining on the phone about being tired and wanting to sleep early.

Great.

The manager was quietly working harder!

Just then, He Si noticed the first responder hadn’t added a name tag.

He clicked on the profile picture, which was a mountain landscape.

Who was this?

Their boss?

He hadn’t expected the boss to be in the group. Judging by the avatar and ID, probably an older person.

After the weekend, the hard work resumed. He Si followed the manager for a week, finally securing the venue. But the annual party plans were temporarily on hold, waiting for news from Jiayi.

Of course, even if it was on hold, Marriott’s video shoots and performances had to be scheduled. As one of the responsible employees, He Si had to handle everything personally.

By mid-November, the temperature had dropped sharply. The office heater was on. He Si put away his summer and autumn clothes and switched to winter clothes in his wardrobe.

On Friday, Assistant Cen finally spoke up in the group, asking if He Si’s team had time to visit Jiayi.

Busy Manager Yang naturally had no time, so the responsibility fell on He Si. He asked around the office, but everyone had their own tasks, so he had to go alone.

Qin Hua had just returned with a paid leave slip, leaning against his chair, ready to order coffee for a boost. Seeing He Si preparing to leave, he clicked his tongue.

“You interns are working harder than us full-timers. Has the manager mentioned when you’ll be made permanent?”

“Probably by the end of the year.”

“That’s soon,” Qin Hua encouraged. “Hang in there. Though we’re all overworked, Marriott’s full-timers have pretty good benefits.”

He Si smiled.

If it weren’t for Marriott’s pay and welfare, he would have left long ago.

After ordering takeout, Qin Hua suddenly turned his head and eyed He Si.

“If I had your looks, I wouldn’t be working like a mule. Three minutes of hard work in bed gives thirty years of happiness under the covers. You should find a rich woman. Being a full-timer at Marriott isn’t as good as being a full-timer for a rich woman.”

Qin Hua was average-looking, short, a bit overweight, and in his early thirties with a noticeable belly. He loved teasing He Si’s appearance.

Sometimes others in the office couldn’t stand it and would subtly roast Qin Hua, but He Si didn’t mind and always responded with a smile.

“Brother Qin, you’re wrong. I’m not more relaxed with a rich woman than at Marriott,” He Si smiled, glancing briefly downward. “I last longer than three minutes.”

Then he left the office.

Qin Hua was speechless.

That brat...

What’s there to brag about!
