Chapter 15: The Master Chef Saves the World!
“I’m the chef, I’ll take care of it!” A middle-aged man stepped forward silently, as if a divine warrior had descended.
His nickname above his head read “Have You Eaten Today?” The players were moved to tears, as if reinforcements had arrived. “Alright, we’re counting on you, brother!”
“Have You Eaten Today?” busied himself with the pile of ingredients, feeling both happy and conflicted.
Happy because, as a chef, encountering so many rare and uncontaminated ingredients—difficult to find even in reality—was a delightful surprise. He looked forward to crafting dishes from these fine materials and praised how the game so realistically replicated the flavors of food.
Unhappy because—though he was a chef—damn it, he just wanted to unwind and relieve stress after work by playing a game!
Clearly, he wanted relaxation, but instead he ended up cooking in another place!
None of the other players could cook, and he foresaw a grim future as the game’s resident chef: waking up every day just to get back to work.
“Well, I can’t let these wonderful ingredients go to waste!”
It had to be said, when a master chef takes action, you can tell immediately. In no time, a delicious aroma wafted through the air, enchanting everyone.
Looking closely, the scent came from roasted rabbit and wild pheasant.
“Have You Eaten Today?” was a dual-element player specializing in fire and wind, making it easy to adjust the heat perfectly—grilling was his forte.
He could multitask, simultaneously stir-frying and simmering soup while barbecuing meat skewered on branches, leaving the onlookers in awe.
“This is fantastic! We’ve got a real chef!”
*Slurp* “That roasted rabbit smells amazing!”
“Compared to this, what I made was garbage!”
On the surface, Qingyue Su appeared calm, but secretly she swallowed hard.
Ah, barbecue looks so delicious. As a cultivator, low-level practitioners take fasting pills, and high-level ones don’t need to eat at all. After crossing over, she hadn’t tasted food properly for over a decade.
As for why she didn’t cook herself—well, would her burnt offerings even be edible?
Xiao Mo, both envious and amazed, exclaimed, “Lan Ling, Lan Ling, do you smell that? So fragrant! It looks super tasty! And he can make several dishes at once! Amazing!”
Lan Ling sighed, “Look at the nickname above his head. Doesn’t it seem familiar?”
“Have You Eaten Today…” Wait, isn’t that the name of that internationally renowned, top-tier restaurant known for its notoriously capricious head chef? The one with a waiting list a mile long?
She used to complain about how whimsical it was to have such a prestigious restaurant named something as ordinary as “Have You Eaten Today?”
Holy hell, what a coincidence! A big shot is playing the same game as us? And I get to eat his cooking for free?
Wow, this is a jackpot! If only those rich folks scrambling for seats knew—they’d probably be so mad they’d spit blood.
Suddenly, she was curious to see their faces if they found out!
She even thought up a slogan for the game: “Can’t get a seat outside? Eat your fill inside! Come play Immortal Spirit Online!”
Lan Ling pondered: Wait, did she just see her sect leader, that ethereal beauty, secretly licking her lips? Her eyes even sparkled!
No, no, no, impossible. She’s always been a cool, aloof little fairy—how could she be so greedy?
Must’ve been a mistake! Yes, definitely!
Qingyue Su was still bragging to the system, “See? I told you reserving a spot for this chef was the right call!”
What are the chances of bumping into a top chef like this? There had to be a reserved spot!
Of course, not because the system foresaw this and prepared for players, but because she wanted to mooch some good food.
It’s been so many years since she had modern cuisine; once a month shouldn’t be too much to ask, right?
System: “Tsk, I never expected you to be like this!”
Qingyue Su tried to defend herself, “No, it’s for everyone’s benefit! The game needs talents from all walks of life!”
“Heh, excuses are just disguises, and disguises are the truth.”
“You!”
The food on the grill sizzled, golden oil dripping enticingly onto the ground. After slicing into small pieces, everyone was served some.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t have more—it was just that there was plenty more to come.
The roasted rabbit had a crispy skin; biting into it released juicy tenderness with a pleasant chewiness. The wild pheasant was tender and juicy, its meat fragrant and crisp.
Qingyue Su ate with the others, her eyes squinting happily—barbecue was truly delicious!
Before anyone could finish savoring it, more dishes arrived one after another.
The players, overwhelmed by the enticing aromas, wept with gratitude. “Waaah, thank goodness for the chef! Chef, you saved my life!”
“The chef saves the world!”
Compared to those, their own cooking was pure garbage!
At this speed, fast and excellent, no wonder he was a master chef. The dual fire and wind elements were like wings on a tiger! Everyone cheered loudly.
Bamboo shoot and wild pheasant soup, mushroom soup, braised wild boar, honey-glazed bear paw, stir-fried wild vegetables, clear fish stew...
The table was laden with generous platters of exquisite dishes, their delicious aromas intoxicating to the point of losing all reason, making everyone eager to taste them.
Qingyue Su lifted her bowl, scooped a mouthful of steaming white rice, and bit into the bear paw.
Not to mention, the bear paw was truly delicious—large, flavorful, tender and fatty, with a chewiness that was addictive and a fragrance that was intoxicating.
The bamboo shoot chicken soup was equally superb, the fresh, tender bamboo slices perfectly balanced the richness of the chicken broth. With just the right seasoning, the bowl was warm and delicious.
The mushroom soup was the most surprising. Though made from simple wild mushrooms, it was so savory she wished she could swallow her tongue.
No wonder so many people would risk poisoning themselves just to eat wild mushrooms in Yunnan!
The flavor was unparalleled, indescribably fresh! Even the freshest sea shrimp couldn’t compare—and it wasn’t cloying!
Qingyue Su’s eyes lit up as she drank several bowls in a row.
After finishing, “Have You Eaten Today?” began cleaning the utensils. Though they could be stored in the storage ring, they would still be greasy and dirty when taken out.
They’d be needed again next time—it’s not like they’d eat once and never again!
By the way, she decided her shop would be closed from now on! That was settled! This game was far more fun!
Employee: ??? What’s this about the boss closing the shop because she’s addicted to the game?!
“Have You Eaten Today?” smiled contentedly as he watched everyone feast.
For a chef, the greatest joy was using the best ingredients to create perfect dishes and seeing diners truly appreciate his cooking.
Today, both were fulfilled at once.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Qingyue Su drinking three big bowls of mushroom soup, and he was mildly surprised.
The young girl was barely sixteen, slender and delicate, dressed in flowing white robes like a little fairy. Even with a smile, her expression was polite but distant.
Now, as she drank her soup, her smile was radiant, her eyes sparkling with cuteness.
“She’s still just a little girl! Likes mushroom soup, huh? I’ll prepare some extra for the little one in the storage ring!” “Have You Eaten Today?” said indulgently.
