Chapter 12: This Is What Professionalism Looks Like!
“Wow, this girl is really beautiful!” Su Wanyu couldn’t help but admire Dilireba, who stood before her with a straight posture that accentuated her figure.
This was undoubtedly a heartfelt compliment from Chen Jin’s mother.
Even though Chen Jin thought Dilireba wasn’t as stunning as the image of himself in his future biographical film, she was definitely a beauty in the making.
She wore a trendy plaid shirt, paired with jeans and white canvas shoes.
Among so many art exam candidates, she truly stood out.
In fact, many people kept glancing at her.
The young girl must have noticed; she turned to look at Su Wanyu and smiled.
“Is your child studying dance?” Su Wanyu asked the man beside Dilireba, boredom creeping in as they waited in line.
Dilireba’s father, a burly man with a square face, politely replied, “Yes, since elementary school...”
Then he instinctively glanced at Chen Jin. “Haha, your child isn’t bad either!”
He could tell Chen Jin had a solid foundation in physical training—after all, he was a singer with the Xinjiang Provincial Song and Dance Troupe, a national first-class artist. Dilimulati had a keen eye for talent.
“No, no!” Su Wanyu quickly waved her hand, thinking it was flattery. “He hasn’t learned anything, nowhere near your child’s level. Judging by the accent, you’re from Xinjiang too?”
That’s quite an expensive trip!
“Yes, from Xinjiang, but the child has been here all along. Initially, she wanted to apply to the Central Conservatory of Music, but upon seeing the China Drama Academy’s enrollment, she decided to study acting!”
Dilimulati shook his head helplessly, his eyes full of adoration for his daughter.
A complete doting father.
“Talented and versatile. With that look, this child is indeed suited for this path!” Su Wanyu couldn’t help but glance again at Dilireba, feeling more and more that this little girl was truly striking—like a girl who had stepped out of a painting.
In reality, Su Wanyu had rarely seen anyone so outstanding.
“I even thought she was mixed-race!”
“Among all these art exam candidates, she’s the most beautiful one!”
Su Wanyu directed the last comment at Chen Jin, who scanned the crowd but saw no other familiar faces.
Soon, it was Dilireba’s turn to register.
She hadn’t signed up online beforehand; coming to the China Drama Academy was a last-minute decision.
Her father had been right—she originally planned to apply to the Central Conservatory of Music. After all, besides learning ethnic dance and ballet from a young age, her main focus had been music, never considering acting.
Because her father was a singer, her upbringing was naturally centered around music.
In fact, she had recently participated in a singing competition and won third place. So her sudden decision to apply to the acting department surprised Dilimulati.
But out of respect for his daughter, he brought her along.
The decision to study acting was actually influenced by her classmates and a piano teacher, who believed that Dilireba might be better suited to be an actress.
With such outstanding looks, it was truly a gift from heaven.
After much thought, Dilireba came to the China Drama Academy and also applied online to the Shanghai Theatre Academy. She planned to rush there tonight, as the deadline for Shanghai Theatre Academy’s application was tomorrow, and the art exams would start the day after.
The China Drama Academy’s exam was still a few days away.
“Xiaojin, did you see that?” Su Wanyu whispered to Chen Jin, her gaze fixed on Dilireba’s registration form, which listed her resume and specialties.
Ethnic dance, ballet, piano, violin, guitar, and more.
Most importantly, she was currently the youngest active dancer in the Xinjiang Provincial Song and Dance Troupe.
Su Wanyu was stunned by the impressive resume. Fortunately, her son had registered online; otherwise, filling out forms onsite would have left his blank.
“Phew, just one day apart!” Chen Jin said after registering and holding his admission ticket, noting the dates.
The Beijing Film Academy’s initial exam was also on the 27th and couldn’t be rescheduled.
Luckily, Chen Jin’s was on the afternoon of the 26th, and the China Drama Academy’s was on the morning of the 27th.
“You and that Xinjiang girl probably have the same exam venue!” Su Wanyu was quite interested in Dilireba; she had just checked the exam location and time, which matched Chen Jin’s.
Their exam numbers were even consecutive, unlike the Beijing Film Academy, which shuffled candidates’ numbers and order; the China Drama Academy appeared to assign exam rooms based on registration order.
“So, you’re competitors!” Su Wanyu remarked, while Chen Jin smiled, “Mom, didn’t you say you weren’t interested in my art exams?”
“I’m not interested, but at least you should take the exam seriously!”
Su Wanyu was that kind of person—though the exam might not be very important, she believed one should always approach it earnestly. That had always been her character.
Chen Jin hadn’t inherited all her traits, but he did inherit her conscientiousness.
When he set his mind to something, there was no turning back.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sulked at home for over ten years without returning after his future biopic film.
“Let’s go, time to get ready!”
“There’s still a day left. Cramming at the last minute can be good!”
“What does the Beijing Film Academy’s initial exam require?” Su Wanyu asked.
Chen Jin knew well—he had just asked and had watched several replays of his initial exam failure in his future biopic film.
He could recite the exam questions and procedures by heart.
He just didn’t know if it would be the same exam room or the same panel of examiners as before.
“The Beijing Film Academy’s is simpler—just a poetry recitation!”
“Poetry recitation?”
Su Wanyu excelled at that. “Have you chosen the poem? You probably need to read it with emotion, right?”
The mother and son chatted as they hailed a cab.
“Mom, it’s not as simple as you think!”
“Do you know why this art exam only tests poetry recitation?”
Before Su Wanyu could answer, Chen Jin, looking very professional, explained, “Because one poetry recitation covers all the basics of acting!”
“Voice, stage presence, movement, expression!”
“Vocal music, lines, physicality, acting—you stand up, your posture while reading, your facial expressions; all of these are acting!”
“...”
Vocal music and lines were obvious—it’s your speech and the poem’s content.
So, to a professional teacher, many art exam candidates reveal much of their ability at the very first word.
That’s professionalism!
Watching Chen Jin speak so confidently, Su Wanyu couldn’t help but ask, “Where did you learn all this?”
“Looked it up online!”
Chen Jin said casually, unaware that Su Wanyu had caught the hint.
“I knew it, you sneaky boy, surfing the internet behind my back again!”
Damn!
Mom, you’re truly unbeatable!
