Chapter 133: Terminating Her Own Child
East Sea Market.
As one of the three great markets of the Eastern Wastelands, its reputation was well-established. Unlike the other two, the East Sea Market was unique for the constant influx of exotic resources brought in by cultivators from overseas.
Chu Feng and his party had originally passed through East Sea City with the market as their primary destination, though they had unexpectedly crossed paths with Su Ningxue, the Daughter of Fortune, and Ye Fan, the Child of Destiny. After knocking Ye Fan unconscious, Chu Feng had stripped him of every treasure on his person and tossed him out of East Sea City like refuse.
As for Su Ningxue, her clan had been annihilated, leaving her entirely alone in the world. Knowing of Chu Feng’s formidable power, she had seized the opportunity to cling to such a powerful figure, kneeling before him and begging to be taken as his disciple.
Accepting a disciple? Forget it. He had no interest in such things. His previous acceptance of Chen Wanwan had been a pure accident—and now, had she not become his woman? As for Su Ningxue, he would pass; he was not one to take in just any woman.
Taking her on as a disciple was out of the question. However, in exchange for the completion of a task involving her, he imparted a cultivation technique and suggested she head to the Sword Province to find the Taixuan Dao Sect. If she could reach the sect, she might be able to join its ranks; as for becoming his disciple, that was a matter for another time, should they ever meet at the Taixuan Dao Sect again.
The journey to the Taixuan Dao Sect was over a hundred thousand miles, spanning from the east to the south—two entirely different directions. While it had taken Chu Feng and his party only a week to reach East Sea City, for Su Ningxue, the journey would take years, not to mention the countless delays and perils she would face. Even the mere act of crossing the Qinling Mountains to enter the Sword Province was an endeavor far beyond her current reach.
Little did Chu Feng know that long after this, Su Ningxue would indeed arrive at the Taixuan Dao Sect, intent on becoming his disciple. But that would not be for several decades.
The East Sea Market was located on a massive reef outside East Sea City. The entire area was protected by a grand formation, opening once every half month for a single day and night. It attracted countless cultivators from both the Eastern Wastelands and overseas. The market was vast, capable of accommodating tens of thousands of people. Whenever it opened, the place was a cacophony of noise and teeming with countless shops—especially the small, roadside stalls.
Although Chu Feng had heard of the East Sea Market, he had never actually visited it. As his gaze swept over the stalls, he saw various treasures on display, yet not a single one caught his eye. Having slaughtered several Tribulation-stage masters and plundered their entire collections, he possessed an abundance of resources. Besides, what could possibly compare to the rewards provided by his system? However, the bustling atmosphere of the market did pique his interest.
As he walked, a scene not far away caught his attention. A man and two women stood there. The man, a Foundation Establishment cultivator, was embracing a shy, delicate-looking woman, whispering words of comfort to her. After a moment of coddling, he turned and began to berate the other woman standing before them.
The man was named Zhu Yun, the woman in his arms was Wei Zhenzhen, and the woman being berated was Shen Xiu'er. Chu Feng gathered the gist of the situation: Shen Xiu'er was Zhu Yun’s Daoist companion, while Wei Zhenzhen was his "white moonlight"—his unattainable love.
Just moments ago, Shen Xiu'er had suddenly felt nauseous. Upon checking, she realized she was pregnant and had immediately shared the joyous news with Zhu Yun. Yet, before Zhu Yun could react, his calculating "white moonlight," Wei Zhenzhen, had begun to sway, appearing heartbroken. It turned out that years ago, her cultivation foundation had been damaged, rendering her unable to bear children. Seeing his beloved distressed, Zhu Yun had erupted in anger and turned his fury on Shen Xiu'er.
"Shen Xiu'er, you did this on purpose, didn't you? If you don't like Zhenzhen, just say so! Why use this pregnancy to provoke her? You know full well that Zhenzhen can never have children. How can your heart be so venomous? Apologize to her right now!"
Shen Xiu'er looked at him, disbelief etched across her face. "Zhu Yun, apologize? What have I done wrong? I am pregnant, and I only wanted to share my happiness with you. I will not apologize."
Zhu Yun’s expression darkened instantly, and he barked in rage, "Shen Xiu'er, you’ve grown arrogant! I told you to apologize, so you will apologize! Is it because I brought Zhenzhen to the market? She is a frail woman; I only brought her here to trade for some treasures. Yet you have harassed her time and time again. Why did I ever enter a Daoist partnership with you?"
Shen Xiu'er sneered, "I harassed her? Wasn't it she who harassed me? Just now, I finally managed to trade for a thousand-year Fire Ganoderma to mend my foundation and improve my cultivation. Because Wei Zhenzhen took a fancy to it, she slandered me, claiming she had set her eyes on it first and that I had stolen it. If she wanted it, why didn't she trade for it herself? And you—you didn't even ask for the truth before taking her side and demanding I hand over the herb to her!"
"Enough!" Zhu Yun cut her off, shouting, "Shen Xiu'er, stop this unreasonable bickering! It’s just a thousand-year Fire Ganoderma. Zhenzhen needs it more than you do. With it, she might have a chance to reach the Foundation Establishment stage. Don't be so selfish! As for the child in your womb, for the sake of not upsetting Zhenzhen, you should just get rid of it."
"What?" Shen Xiu'er could not believe her ears. Her face flushed with fury. "Zhu Yun, are you even human? The child in my womb is yours, and you are telling me to abort it?"
Zhu Yun snorted coldly, "Exactly because it is mine, I have the right to decide its fate. Zhenzhen is delicate and cannot handle the distress. Get rid of the child; it’s not as if I can't get you pregnant again later."
Shen Xiu'er shook her head. "Zhu Yun, you are a monster. Don't you know that for cultivators, the higher our cultivation, the harder it is to conceive? This child was so difficult to conceive, and you want me to destroy it? No, I will never agree!"
Wei Zhenzhen spoke up, feigning weakness, "Brother Yun, don't force Sister Xiu'er. It is all my fault. I cannot have children, and I can't bear to see others pregnant, which is why I fainted. After all, it is your child; it is only natural that Sister Xiu'er is reluctant. I will just cough up a bit of blood and rest for a while; I will be fine."
Upon hearing this, Zhu Yun’s anger reached a boiling point. He stared at Shen Xiu'er, his killing intent palpable. "Shen Xiu'er, I am not asking for your opinion; I am informing you. That child will be aborted, whether you like it or not. Do not force me to do it myself."
"You wouldn't dare!" Shen Xiu'er’s face went deathly pale.
Zhu Yun was a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator, while she was only at the eighth level of Qi Refining. Zhu Yun could crush her with a single hand.
Zhu Yun sneered, "Watch me."
"Now, get rid of it immediately!"
Terrified, Shen Xiu'er backed away, retreating five or six paces. Suddenly, as if she had made a firm decision, she roared, "Zhu Yun, don't you dare think you can touch my child!"
With that, she turned and bolted into the thick of the crowd.
