Following the instructions, Mu Chen meticulously placed all the necessary materials on the workbench. Fearing he might be disturbed during the process, he had specifically asked Xiao Gu to stand guard nearby, instructing it to intercept anyone who came looking for him.

Although only Ai Wei and Mu Jiu’er remained in the territory aside from the servants, there was no telling when a servant might come to report something.

However, from preparation to completion, the entire process took just ten minutes—a span neither particularly long nor short.

Mu Chen gazed at the recruitment scroll resting quietly in his backpack and exhaled slowly. At last, the object of his long anticipation was in his hands!

[Carrion Beast Recruitment Scroll]
[Allows the recruitment of a mid-tier beast from the Abyss.]
[Skill 1: Burrow. Skill 2: Venomous Rend.]
[It’s best to summon them in an open space. Do you see the first skill? It can turn a battered base into a pile of derelict ruins in just five minutes—this is beyond question.]

“Tsk…” Mu Chen clicked his tongue.

Back when he’d first planned to create the Carrion Beast Recruitment Scroll, it was purely to bolster his strength—he meant to use beasts against his enemies.

Now, however, he wavered in his resolve…

This “Burrow” skill was clearly a double-edged sword.

Leaving the base, Mu Chen stopped at an open stretch of ground.

Tentatively, he summoned a single carrion beast.

A dark gleam flashed, and a massive creature appeared on the clearing before him.

Five meters tall, ten meters long.

Its entire body was pitch-black, and on closer inspection, he could see a fine layer of scales covering its surface. It must have weighed at least three tons.

It had a pointed head, a lizard-like form, and a long, slender tail…

“Why does this look so familiar?” Mu Chen muttered inwardly.

After a moment’s thought, realization dawned.

“Isn’t this just like the ‘Naga Drakes’ from that game I used to play? Only the color is different…”

The summoned carrion beast, seemingly unaccustomed to its surroundings, let out a series of guttural roars that quickly drew Mu Jiu’er and Ai Wei to investigate.

[Carrion Beast]
[Summoned by: Mu Chen]
[Constitution: 19]
[Mental: 7]
[Skills: Burrow, Venomous Rend]
[Loyalty: 100]
Note: An Abyssal beast species that absolutely obeys the commands of its recruiter; in its eyes, the recruiter is akin to the leader of its kind. Of course, its delicious flesh is universally praised by all Abyssal creatures.

“Lord Mu Chen, this is…” Ai Wei had already thrust her cross into the ground.

“Wait!” Mu Chen called out. “Ai Wei, listen to me!”

She turned her head, puzzled. “???”

“This is a creature I just summoned with a recruitment scroll—it’s not an enemy!” Mu Chen hurriedly explained.

The carrion beast continued to roar mindlessly, and Mu Chen felt a pang of worry for it. Still, after he explained everything to Mu Jiu’er and Ai Wei, and some calming words were exchanged, the beast seemed to understand Mu Chen’s intent and lay quietly to one side, no longer making a sound.

“It looks pretty impressive. If we fitted it with a saddle and rode it, it’d be quite the experience…” Mu Chen mused.

“Brother, why not take it to the mine and try it out?” suggested Mu Jiu’er.

“…”

Her thoughts were uncannily in sync with his own.

Before long, the three of them led the carrion beast to the mining site.

Calling it a mining site was no longer accurate—‘pit’ was more fitting. Within a hundred-meter radius, the ground sloped steadily downward, with the deepest point at least twenty meters below the surface!

As Mu Chen and his party approached, the servants caught sight of the massive carrion beast, instinctively halting their work, a trace of panic in their eyes.

“Everyone, come up!”
