Chapter 92: Flirting and Teasing
Because Zhao Qing never tolerated unruly behavior on set, the entire crew got along fairly well—at least on the surface.
Just after eleven that night, the wrap party ended in a relatively peaceful atmosphere.
After parting ways with the others, Song Wan saw a black car pull up by the hotel entrance.
It looked terribly familiar; she recognized it almost at once.
Gao Xiang, seeing the light in her eyes, laughed and gave her a playful shove. “Go on, then. Don’t keep President Jin waiting.”
Song Wan’s heart stirred, but for some reason her expression turned faintly conflicted.
A good agent naturally knew how to read an artist’s mind.
After only one glance at Song Wan, Gao Xiang immediately understood what she was fretting over and rolled her eyes without mercy. “Well, aren’t you just rich and well-fed, with no idea how it feels to be starving!”
She didn’t even have a boyfriend, and yet Song Wan was already worrying about what would happen after they moved in together.
Gao Xiang arched a brow and simply pushed her to the front of Jin Youqian’s car. “President Jin, hurry up and take her away. She’s an eyesore just standing here.”
Song Wan didn’t resist. She took two steps forward before stopping and smiling. “My luggage…”
“We’re not without a car. We’ll bring it back for you later.”
Song Wan was still a little hesitant. She no longer lived in the company artist apartments; if Gao Xiang were to hand over her luggage, they would first have to drive to Jin Youqian’s villa. Not only was it troublesome, it was a real hassle.
Perhaps finding her too slow, Jin Youqian simply opened the passenger door in front of her. “Get in!”
Then he turned to the driver. “Go get Song Wan’s luggage and bring it over here.”
Song Wan: “…All right.”
She climbed into the sedan, but her gaze kept drifting backward.
Jin Youqian was impatient. “What are you worrying about?”
“With a car this small, can it really fit my two suitcases?” Song Wan questioned without the slightest tact.
Naturally, Jin Youqian’s car was priceless and of excellent quality; Song Wan even recognized it as one of only one hundred units in the world.
But a sedan was still a sedan, and there were many kinds. Clearly, the trunk of his car was not very spacious.
To make herself more comfortable on set, Song Wan had deliberately bought the largest suitcases available, the kind with twice the capacity, so she could pack more and better things inside.
Just by looking at it, one could tell the trunk would never fit them.
Jin Youqian’s expression darkened.
Yet Song Wan was still muttering, “I never thought you’d drive this car. When I first saw it, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. From a distance, I almost felt like my two suitcases could crush your car flat.”
Jin Youqian grew irritated. “Will you shut up? You should be grateful someone came to pick you up, and you still dare complain!”
Song Wan stared at him, eyes wide in disbelief. “You’re my husband. Picking up your wife after she gets off work by driving over here isn’t that your basic duty?”
“My basic duty is to keep Apex International running and to expand the reach of my business empire. Just picking you up? Song Wan, after a few days apart, I think the surface area of your face could rival the Pacific Ocean.”
As if that wasn’t enough, he stabbed her with another remark. “The country worries all day about not having enough living space. With you around, what else is there to worry about? We could just build a few apartment blocks on your face.”
What the hell…
Song Wan’s phoenix eyes widened into round fish eyes, so puffed up with indignation they nearly burst.
But she quickly found a retort. “Yes, yes, my face is as big as the Pacific. Otherwise, how would there be enough room for you to put your mouth on it?”
Jin Youqian: “…Can you stop making everything sound so suggestive?”
“What’s suggestive about it? Red? Black? Or white?” Song Wan gave him a glare and lied through her teeth.
What if it did sound suggestive? She hadn’t even said anything more suggestive than that yet. That was just married people’s fun.
“Besides,” Song Wan said, frowning hard, “since when does kissing have a color? Pink?”
Jin Youqian was about to say more, but Song Wan clapped a hand over his mouth. “All right, all right. Your car really can’t fit my luggage, so I’ll get out and go back with Sister Gao and the others.”
With that, she clicked the door open and stepped out.
By the time Jin Youqian reacted, he had only managed to catch the hem of her dress. Then he could only watch as she got out of the car.
He was furious.
Unable to care about anything else, he simply followed her out. “Song Wan, stop making a scene. It’s already past eleven, and you’ve been busy all this time. You need to go home and rest.”
Song Wan’s eyes flickered, and a smile appeared at the corner of her lips. “I’m not making a scene. Your car really can’t fit my luggage.”
“I’ll have someone bring it back tomorrow.”
Jin Youqian frowned. Though a little embarrassed, he didn’t think there was anything worth dwelling on.
Song Wan studied him carefully, then sighed. “I think tonight may be my last single night. Can’t you at least let me go back and tidy up first?”
At first Jin Youqian didn’t understand. A moment later, his ears turned red at once.
“Ahem.” His gaze shifted away. “Then I’ll take you back to the apartment.”
This time Song Wan did not refuse. After moving her luggage back into the company van, she got into Jin Youqian’s car.
--
Once the driver had carried Song Wan’s luggage out, Gao Xiang and Zhou Yaya said goodbye to Song Wan and went home.
Song Wan looked at Jin Youqian standing by the door and invited him in. “Aren’t you coming inside to sit for a while?”
Jin Youqian hesitated, but Song Wan grabbed him and pulled him straight into the apartment. “Honestly, what kind of man are you, dawdling like this? What’s there to hesitate about coming into your wife’s room? Could I possibly harm you?”
As she spoke, she paused and turned back to look at him, her gaze strange.
Jin Youqian felt a chill under her stare. “What are you looking at?”
“I was just wondering,” Song Wan said solemnly with a nod, “you’re probably not worried that I’ll harm you. You’re worried I’ll eat you, aren’t you?”
Eat me?
Jin Youqian rarely went online, and at first he had no idea what she meant.
However, with a housekeeper who was a devoted fan of melodramatic, formulaic romance dramas babbling in his ear all day long, it was hard for him not to remember the phrase.
His face darkened. “Song Wan, can your brain hold something a little healthier?”
“Reproduction is the most basic and instinctive impulse of human beings. Tell me, what exactly is unhealthy about that?”
Song Wan smiled sweetly, yet her words were solemn enough to sound like she was about to discuss some obscure research topic with him, such as the true meaning of life.
Jin Youqian nearly lost control and wanted to slap her with the so-called instinct of living creatures.
Song Wan knew she might have teased him a bit too much, and quickly composed herself. “Plain boiled water, want some?”
Without waiting for him to answer, she walked straight into the kitchen to boil some.
Jin Youqian: “…You weren’t really going to ask my opinion anyway, so why bother asking? Are you this thirsty for saliva?”
“Thirsty for saliva? Do you want to drink some?”
Jin Youqian nearly choked. The look he gave Song Wan was truly indescribable.
Song Wan merely shrugged. Tsk, as if nobody could tell you were embarrassed.
Those red ears of his—she really wanted to bite them and taste them.
Having a husband who looked as though he had weathered countless storms, yet was in fact more innocent than anyone else, was rather delightful. At the very least, it made married life far more amusing than being married to other men.
In a good mood, Song Wan boiled the water and then went to sit beside Jin Youqian. “Although I do have quite a bit of saliva, I wasn’t teasing you when I asked if you wanted plain water just now.” She paused, a rare trace of awkwardness in her expression. “I only remembered after I’d already said it that, since I haven’t been staying in the apartment for a long time, there aren’t any drinks in the fridge.”
So apart from plain water, there really wasn’t anything else to drink.
With a reasonable explanation, Jin Youqian naturally didn’t hold it against her. He had been teased by Song Wan for so long that his pride was somewhat bruised, but he couldn’t really do anything to vent his anger, so he merely turned his head and snorted through his nose, pretending he hadn’t heard.
Song Wan: …So childish.
--
Jin Youqian sat in Song Wan’s apartment for a while longer before preparing to leave.
When he reached the door, he suddenly stopped and looked back at Song Wan, seeming to want to say something, yet hesitating as though the words themselves were too embarrassing to speak.
Song Wan found it odd. “What is it?” She glanced back at the sofa where Jin Youqian had just been sitting. “Did you leave something behind?”
She was just about to go back to look for it when Jin Youqian grabbed her. “Ahem, Song Wan…”
“Hm?” Song Wan looked straight into his eyes, her focus so intense it was almost frightening.
Jin Youqian felt awkward under her gaze and slightly turned his head away, but soon turned back. “Remember to come back early tomorrow.”
Song Wan froze for a moment, then laughed brightly.
Jin Youqian shot her an angry look. “What’s so funny? I’m telling you to come home earlier, or else I’ll have to listen to Uncle Feng nag me again.”
Song Wan only laughed and did not argue.
Although Steward Feng was indeed rather peculiar, and Jin Youqian himself did not seem to know much about matters between men and women, she didn’t believe that things like coming to pick her up or reminding her to return early tomorrow required Steward Feng to teach him.
If that were the case, she felt she would have to lower her estimate of Jin Youqian’s understanding of love and desire once more.
Jin Youqian grew even more irritated at her laughter and was about to open the door and leave directly when—
A knock sounded.
Jin Youqian’s movement stilled. He turned back to look at Song Wan.
But Song Wan simply shook her head. “I don’t know that many people, and certainly not anyone close enough to come looking for me in the middle of the night.”
In her past life there might have been some, but this one?
“Could it be Sister Gao and the others coming back?” Song Wan asked in confusion as she opened the door.
“…”
Seeing the person standing at the doorway, Jin Youqian and Song Wan actually, in a rare show of perfect accord, wore the exact same expression of utter thunderstruck disbelief.
“Uncle Feng!”
“Steward Feng!”
The two cried out at the same time.
Feng Yu wore a grave expression, but his eyes were full of the relief of seeing his younger generation at last attain happiness. “It’s me.”
