Chapter 83: Biting the Master
The previously indifferent Chicken Tyrant finally understood—someone seemed intent on roasting it. With a sudden turn, it glared fiercely at the young woman, its menacing gaze making her retreat two steps in fear. Witnessing this, Chicken Tyrant let out two disdainful clucks.
“Cluck cluck cluck!”
Then it turned away, nestling back into Xiao Yang’s embrace.
Instantly, the young woman shouted in annoyance, “That wretched chicken, how dare it intimidate me! Generals Three, tear that little chick to pieces!”
As soon as these words left her lips, a flash of silver light glimmered across the bodies of the three cockerels, who were about to lunge at Xiao Yang.
At that moment, a young man rushed over, quickly putting a stop to the girl’s actions.
“Sis, don’t make a scene.”
He then apologized with a bow. “My apologies, sir. My little sister is young and impulsive. Please forgive her.”
Only after being addressed did Xiao Yang notice the young man’s attire—clearly the uniform of an officer from the Drug Lord Kingdom. It was obvious both siblings hailed from there.
“I’m not the one making a scene! It’s this old man who’s unreasonable,” the girl protested, her brother’s scolding making her even more indignant.
Angrily, she ordered her fighting cocks to attack Xiao Yang, and because of her brother’s words, she held a grudge, intending to teach both him and Xiao Yang a lesson.
“Teach that detestable old man a lesson as well!”
“Enough!” the young man said, now a little angry. However, the girl was stubborn and paid no heed to her brother.
He turned to Xiao Yang, handing him a silver note worth a thousand. “Please accept this as my apology. I ask you to leave quickly.”
Xiao Yang didn’t even glance at the note. Instead, his eyes settled on the young woman.
“These three are your fighting cocks?”
“Yes! Jealous, aren’t you?” she replied, thrusting out her chest in pride.
But Xiao Yang wasn’t envious at all. He only wanted to confirm one thing—these two were, in all likelihood, his targets: members of the royal family of the Drug Lord Kingdom.
To his surprise, the cockfighting-loving royal was a woman.
“I’m not jealous,” Xiao Yang replied with indifference. “Just don’t cry when you lose.”
At this, the girl’s temper flared.
“You think that pathetic chicken of yours can beat my Generals Three? You must be dreaming, old man!”
“Not that I’m boasting, but any one of my Generals could trample your little chick with a single claw!”
She hopped as she spoke, no less fierce than a quarrelsome shrew.
Chicken Tyrant stretched out lazily, having heard enough. Someone dared to insult it? How could it let that slide? It was about to step forward and teach those three foolish chickens a lesson, but Xiao Yang held it back.
The young man finally lost his temper.
“Jiang Xiaoyu, if you don’t stop this instant, don’t blame me for having you dragged home!”
At his words, the girl’s arrogance instantly deflated and she lowered her head, but her mouth refused to yield.
“You’d better pray you don’t face me in the preliminaries, or your little chick will end up in pieces,” she threatened, pointing at Chicken Tyrant.
“Cluck cluck cluck!” Chicken Tyrant was furious—never before had anyone called it a little chick.
“I’m sorry, sir. My mistake. If you require compensation, find me at the Beimo Tavern—I’ll be waiting,” the young man offered, pulling his sister away.
Tap tap tap!
There was a knock at the door. Jin Jie, a little nervous, opened it and relaxed when he saw who it was.
“Big brother, you’re finally back. Any later and the competition would have started without us.”
Xiao Yang nodded. They’d accidentally taken a wrong turn and ended up circling outside, though he’d never admit to something so embarrassing.
“Just in time. Young people are always too impatient,” he said calmly.
Wang Xi suddenly smiled. “Gentlemen, I’ve just received word—the preliminaries are set. We can head to the cockfighting arena now. Shall we go take a look at the venue?”
Xiao Yang agreed readily. In fact, she was planning to finish here quickly and check out the other two venues as well, hoping to pocket the fifty-thousand prize.
Seeing Xiao Yang agree, Wang Xi prepared to lead the group out, leaving the private room first.
But what happened next nearly scared him to death. Lying in front of them was a fighting dog over three meters long, exuding a savage, oppressive aura. One look and it was clear this was no ordinary beast. Wang Xi froze, unable to move.
Behind him, the four Jin brothers, noticing his sudden halt, urged him, “Wang, what’s the matter? Why are you blocking the door?”
Wang Xi turned slowly, eyes fixed on the monstrous fighting dog that had appeared so abruptly. Seeing it didn’t attack, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Gentlemen, there’s a slight situation. I need to contact the beast-catcher team,” he said in a gentle voice.
He remembered well—these young men were here for cockfighting, not dogfighting, and no one had brought a dog. Judging by this animal’s ferocious aura, it was a top-tier fighting dog. As a mere low-ranking martial artist, he’d be sending himself to his death if he tried to handle it, so he decided to call the specialists.
“What did you see?” Jin Ying asked nervously, seeing Wang Xi so tense.
“There’s a top-tier fighting dog squatting right outside our door,” Wang Xi replied as he cautiously backed away, still shaken.
Xiao Yang was stunned. Without a second thought, he opened the door.
Wang Xi nearly turned green with fright, wanting to stop him, but it was too late.
The private room door swung open again, and this time, a massive head poked inside. Even the four Jin brothers felt their hearts race at the sight of the ferocious beast.
“Where did this top-tier fighting dog come from?” was the only question in their minds.
Seeing Wang Xi’s anxiety, Xiao Yang asked, “You mean this one?”
He reached out and patted the Ghost Mastiff’s head. The room wasn’t big, so he’d left the mastiff waiting outside. He hadn’t expected such a misunderstanding.
Watching as Xiao Yang casually patted the mastiff, Wang Xi and the Jin brothers were dumbfounded. Fighting dogs had to maintain their aggression at all times; even their owners couldn’t just stroke their heads or scratch their bellies—such actions could trigger an attack.
Yet the Ghost Mastiff showed not the slightest resistance, letting Xiao Yang pat it as if it were a mere show dog.
“Heh, I just bought this fellow outside,” Xiao Yang explained with a laugh.
The others exchanged nervous glances.
“Big brother, you’d better not touch it. Fighting dogs are dangerous,” Jin Ying said, swallowing hard, clearly shaken by the dog’s ferocious appearance.
“It’s fine. This guy’s as obedient as they come—won’t bite me,” Xiao Yang replied carelessly.
Off to the side, Hao Wenlong’s brow twitched. "It’s bitten you twice already and nearly scared you out of your wits. It wouldn’t dare bite you again."
