Bai Chenxi burst out laughing. "Your words are getting sharper by the day. But I'm not bad either—I poured a whole glass of wine on his face." She kept smiling as she spoke, but if you looked closely, the smile never reached her eyes.

Does she really not care? Thinking of what Chairman Che had said, how could she possibly be indifferent? Bai Chenxi gazed at Chu Muyun: And you? Is there really someone you'd give everything to protect?

"Don't you... want to know what grudge there is between him and me?"

Bai Chenxi shook her head resolutely. "I don't want to know."

Before Chu Muyun could say anything, she continued, "Want to have a drink?"

Chu Muyun frowned slightly at that. He had intended to stop her, but after a moment's thought, he gave up. Perhaps, if she got drunk, she wouldn't dwell on things so much.

Bai Chenxi saw the look on Chu Muyun’s face. "Then you can just watch me drink."

She grabbed a few bottles herself and sat down on the carpet, starting to drink. Chu Muyun had no choice but to sit with her.

He watched as Bai Chenxi drank glass after glass, eventually tipping the bottle straight into her mouth. He couldn’t help but say, "You should slow down a little."

Bai Chenxi shook the bottle dismissively. "This is nothing! I could drink a thousand cups and never get drunk."

Chu Muyun looked at her flushed face and the way she could barely string a sentence together—these words had no credibility at all.

Chu Muyun stood up and took the bottle away. "Enough, you’re drunk. No more."

Bai Chenxi clung to Chu Muyun with hands and feet, "Give me back the wine, I want to drink more."

Chu Muyun looked helplessly at Bai Chenxi as she hugged his leg, crying and fussing like a child.

It took him a long while to put the bottle somewhere she couldn’t reach with her current level of intelligence.

Then he crouched down and supported her gently, coaxing her softly, "Let me help you to bed, alright?"

Bai Chenxi was certainly drunk, but her infatuation was instinctive. She nodded at Chu Muyun, grinning foolishly.

She even stretched out her arms. "I want a hug!"

Chu Muyun had no choice but to pick her up and carry her to the bedroom.

After covering her with the quilt, Chu Muyun was about to leave, but Bai Chenxi, eyes closed, suddenly opened them and grabbed his sleeve.

"Don't go, please?"

Chu Muyun saw the pleading in Bai Chenxi’s wide eyes and his heart softened.

He leaned against the bed and said, "Alright, I’ll stay here, I won’t go anywhere. Go to sleep."

"Bai Chenxi, Bai Chenxi, wake up!" Hearing her sobs, Chu Muyun nudged her gently.

Bai Chenxi opened tearful eyes and looked at him.

Suddenly, she hooked her arms around Chu Muyun’s neck. "You won’t leave me, will you?"

Chu Muyun, caught off guard by her sudden embrace, was left unsure where to put his hands.

After a long moment, he sat on the edge of the bed, wrapped his arms around her, and gently stroked her back. "Don’t worry, I won’t leave you."

Bai Chenxi looked up at him. "What if the one you once fought for in anger—a woman—comes back?"

"What nonsense are you talking about? No matter who comes back—"

"That Chairman Che said you once fought for another woman, all for her."

Bai Chenxi’s lips were pursed high, her face full of displeasure.

Chu Muyun frowned. "What else did he tell you?"

Bai Chenxi shook her head honestly. "Nothing else."

She pressed on, "Even if it’s her, you wouldn’t leave?"

"So, Miss Bai Chenxi, are you feeling jealous now?"

Bai Chenxi looked at him in confusion, asking only because she'd wanted to before getting drunk.

How much she could understand depended entirely on luck.

Seeing her like this, Chu Muyun sighed and gathered her into his arms. "There never was anyone else. Now and in the future, there will only be you."

Bai Chenxi woke up early, feeling a splitting headache. She glanced around—she was at home, and apparently drank last night.

Drank? Chu Muyun—if she remembered right, Chu Muyun was there too.

She immediately threw off the quilt and ran outside. Seeing the empty living room, she wondered if she'd just hallucinated from drinking too much.

But if she drank too much, why would she think of Chu Muyun?

Bai Chenxi hadn’t figured it out yet, when she turned and saw Chu Muyun coming out of the kitchen, carrying a bowl.

"You... you, how?" Bai Chenxi couldn't even get her words out.

Why was he here? Was last night not just a dream?

Chu Muyun mimicked her speech, "I... I, what?"

Bai Chenxi eyed the bowl in his hand warily. "What’s that you’re holding?"

Chu Muyun glanced at it and replied deliberately, "Oh, this? I made breakfast for you. Come and eat."

"I’ll go wash my face first." With that, Bai Chenxi dashed to the bathroom.

Oh my god, don’t scare me like this first thing in the morning. Food made by Chu Muyun—can I even eat it?

Bai Chenxi splashed her face with water, and flashes of memories flickered through her mind.

She had hugged Chu Muyun’s leg.

Stretched out her arms, asking for a hug.

He... he had hugged her.

Bai Chenxi covered her face. How could she face anyone now? What should she do?

More memories surfaced. Chu Muyun had talked a lot, but she only remembered one thing: Only you.

Only you, only you...

Those words circled in her mind. Why did he say that to her? Could it be?

Bai Chenxi dawdled for ages before coming out.

"You’re out. Come have some porridge! I made this white porridge just for you."

Chu Muyun emphasized the words "white porridge" on purpose.

Bai Chenxi barely responded, distracted.

She took a sip: Oh! It was actually drinkable. But then she thought, it’s just a bowl of plain rice porridge. Was she supposed to praise him for not burning it?

After finishing her porridge, Bai Chenxi asked cautiously, "Um, I got drunk last night. Did I do anything?"
