Chapter Sixty-One: The Awkwardness After Drinking
Chu Muyun heard Bai Chenxi's words, put down his bowl, and raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
Bai Chenxi felt even more embarrassed. "I was drunk, I don't remember anything I did. If I offended you in any way, I apologize."
Chu Muyun narrowed his eyes slightly. "You don't remember?"
Bai Chenxi nodded. She recalled hugging his leg, acting spoiled, and begging to be embraced—such humiliating things, she certainly didn't remember.
Chu Muyun glanced at her, speaking carelessly. "Oh, it's nothing, really. It's just that after you got drunk last night, you kept clinging to me. You said you wanted to be my girlfriend and put me in quite a dilemma!"
"You..." Bai Chenxi stopped herself from retorting. Well, she really remembered nothing.
"Is that so? You needn’t take it seriously. It was just drunken nonsense. I watch a lot of TV, and whenever I see handsome men, I say things like that. Maybe I was drunk, saw how good-looking you are, mistook you for someone on TV, and said it."
Afraid Chu Muyun wouldn’t believe her, she nodded vigorously. But inside, Bai Chenxi was falling apart: What kind of ridiculous excuse is this? Even she didn’t believe herself.
"Mm." Chu Muyun said nothing further.
After a while, Bai Chenxi pretended to ask casually, "Did you say anything to me last night? I can’t quite remember, but I think you said something, maybe 'only you'?"
As she spoke, she watched Chu Muyun's expression closely.
Chu Muyun’s face remained unchanged. "Are you sure you're not mistaken? I never said that."
Seeing his expression, Bai Chenxi grew doubtful. Had she really remembered wrong?
"Perhaps I was mistaken." She continued drinking her porridge, feeling mortified.
Chu Muyun looked at Bai Chenxi’s lowered head with an inscrutable gaze: It seems he couldn’t rush things.
Suddenly, both their phones rang. They exchanged a glance and each answered their calls.
"You’re trending again." Bai Chenxi was prepared for this, given both their phones rang at the same time.
But to think they’d be photographed again—were the paparazzi living in her house?
"Sister Wang, what did they catch this time?" Bai Chenxi calmly sipped her porridge. She was getting used to rumors about her and Chu Muyun.
On the other end, Wang Ling continued, "It’s the footage of you and Jiang Jize leaving the hotel together. They deliberately avoided filming me."
Wang Ling was furious about the paparazzi twisting facts and taking things out of context.
"What? Me and Jiang Jize?" Bai Chenxi exclaimed in disbelief.
She glanced at Chu Muyun. He was looking at her, his brows tightly knit.
"Brother Chu, I swear it wasn’t intentional. I just offered to give them a ride, never thought I’d be photographed," Jiang Jize explained to Chu Muyun.
Chu Muyun looked at Bai Chenxi and replied calmly, "I understand. Think carefully about how you'll resolve this."
Jiang Jize replied with determination, "I’ll handle it."
"If it wasn’t Jiang Jize, who else could it be? I think I hear a man’s voice. You..." Wang Ling’s sharp hearing picked up on the anomaly.
"There’s no one else, it’s just the TV. I have the TV on!" Bai Chenxi replied.
Chu Muyun listened to her words, saying nothing, just staring at her.
Bai Chenxi felt unsettled by his gaze and turned her back to make her call.
"Alright, Sister Wang, I understand."
When Bai Chenxi returned, she found Chu Muyun still staring at her in the same pose.
"Brother Chu, aren't you tired of this?"
"Am I such an eyesore?"
Was it her illusion, or did Chu Muyun seem a bit aggrieved?
Impossible—it must be her imagination.
"I just didn’t want Sister Wang to misunderstand. We’re already hard for people to explain."
"And with Lin Yue, you’re not afraid of misunderstandings?"
Zhang Kai had mentioned more than once that Wang Ling was fond of Lin Yue and told him to be cautious.
"I just don’t want her to misunderstand again, since things with Lin Yue are already hard to clarify."
Here, Bai Chenxi guessed wrong. If it were about Chu Muyun, Wang Ling wouldn’t believe it anyway. The two of them were so different, how could they possibly be in love?
Chu Muyun didn’t wish to continue this topic. He asked, "What did your agent say?"
"Sister Wang told me to go to the company."
Chu Muyun replied, "Finish your breakfast first. I’ll drive you there afterward."
Bai Chenxi looked at him, thinking he was worried about the rumors, and tried to comfort him, "Don’t worry, Jiang Jize will handle it."
She felt a pang of envy: Did he not realize she was his boss?
No, that wasn’t the issue.
"Sister Wang will send a car for me later. I can take the company vehicle."
Chu Muyun listened and replied calmly, "No need to trouble them. It’s on my way, I’ll take you."
"Alright, then."
As they left, they happened to run into Grandma and Grandpa Chu heading out.
Grandma Chu looked at the door, then at the two of them, her mouth stretched in a wide smile.
She beamed and asked, "Heading out?"
Bai Chenxi nodded.
Chu Muyun replied, "She needs to go to the company. I’ll give her a lift."
Grandma Chu responded, "What do you mean 'give her a lift'? Even if it’s not on your way, you should take her."
Chu Muyun answered obediently, "Yes, Grandma."
Only then did Grandma Chu let them leave, urging, "Didn’t you say there was something at the company? Hurry, don’t delay important matters."
Grandma Chu looked at them eagerly, as if she were watching a newlywed couple set out together.
Not far out, Chu Muyun said to Bai Chenxi, "My grandma is just really eager for me to have a girlfriend, don’t mind her."
Bai Chenxi waved her hand, "Not at all. Grandma Chu cares about you, it’s perfectly understandable."
"Good," Chu Muyun said, reaching out to touch Bai Chenxi’s head.
What was that feeling? Bai Chenxi almost felt like she was Caesar.
Even as Chu Muyun opened the passenger door for her, inviting her to sit, Bai Chenxi still felt like she was walking in a cloud.
