Chapter Forty-Eight: Aaaaaah!

Only when Fang Yun reached the submarine did she truly feel how insignificant she was.
She looked up at its height, somewhat uncertain whether she could fit it into her spatial realm.
But since she had come all this way, she had to give it a try. If it truly would not work, she would follow the original plan: hide it here and return for it once the weather warmed.
After steadying her thoughts, she closed her eyes, drew a deep breath, and encouraged herself.
Then she stretched out both hands, pressed them against the submarine, and began trying to place it into her spatial realm.
Li Wangcheng stood watching from a short distance away. He saw Fang Yun press both hands against the submarine’s outer hull.
One minute passed, then two...
Just as he was about to go over and tell Fang Yun that it did not matter if she failed, the submarine suddenly flickered before his eyes.
It vanished for exactly one second before reappearing. If the seawater beneath it had not rippled, he might have suspected that he had imagined it.
“Fang Yun?” he called uncertainly. Had she succeeded or failed?
Fang Yun had no time to answer him.
“Ahhh! What are you doing?!”
The system’s shrill, explosive screech rang through her splitting headache.
Fang Yun had no time to deal with it either.
She had simply been far too confident.
She had indeed managed to stuff the submarine into her spatial realm just now. The realm was originally the villa that had been her marital home, and its area was large enough to hold the submarine. What she had not anticipated was that the building aboveground would obstruct it.
The moment the submarine entered the realm, it crushed the entire villa flat. Fortunately, she had transferred all the supplies inside to the treehouse beforehand.
Even so, her losses were severe.
Leaving aside the complete destruction of the villa, the instant it collapsed beneath the submarine, her head had felt as though someone had split it open with an axe. The pain had nearly knocked her unconscious, which was also why the submarine had reappeared.
“My heavens, what are you doing? Are you insane? Look what you’ve done to the spatial realm!”
The system seemed to have some connection with the realm. The instant the villa was destroyed, it appeared.
After examining the state of the realm, the system felt as though the world had gone dark before its eyes.
It wanted to curse, but the moment it tried to speak, its voice was muted. All it could do was express its displeasure through a shrill, explosive screech.
Fang Yun felt as though she wanted to die. Her headache was so intense that everything before her eyes had doubled, while the system continued shrieking questions inside her mind.

If she could have answered, she would have done so already, all right?
Could it not see how much she was suffering? Could it not solve the problem at hand first instead of nagging about everything else?
Watching her stubbornly refuse to let go, the system was so furious that it almost wanted to manifest a physical body and beat her.
Did she really need such an enormous thing?
What use was this thing anyway?
It was outdated and cumbersome!
Aaaaaah!
The enraged system let out another scream, but in the end, it still had no choice but to lend Fang Yun a hand.
When Li Wangcheng realized something was wrong and rushed toward Fang Yun, the enormous submarine vanished completely before his eyes with a sudden whoosh.
He stopped short. Before he could rejoice at her success, he saw Fang Yun pitch forward as though she had lost consciousness.
There was a vast stretch of seawater directly in front of her. If she fell in, the consequences would be disastrous.
Fortunately, Li Wangcheng summoned every ounce of strength he had and caught hold of her clothes just as she was about to fall into the water.
After struggling to haul her back onto shore, the two people, bundled up like bears, lay in the snow.
Fang Yun slept as though unconscious, while Li Wangcheng panted heavily and stared blankly at the gray sky.
It was not that he lacked strength. Anyone wearing nearly two pounds of clothing would have difficulty moving.
Even a former domineering CEO had to bow before the might of nature.
After resting for a while, he finally caught his breath.
He rose to check Fang Yun’s condition and found that she had already fainted.
He looked around, his gaze pausing when it landed on the sled.
Then he lowered his head to look at Fang Yun again, his eyes filled with complicated emotions.
He did not know whether to say that she had planned ahead or that she had been prepared all along.
There was no time to wonder whether she had known that absorbing the submarine would make her faint. Li Wangcheng dragged her onto the sled, wrapped her securely to keep her warm, and started the engine.
It was already late after all this upheaval. If they did not catch up with Shang Xingbing and the others soon, they might lose contact with them.
Meanwhile, Shang Xingbing and the others had reached the designated stopping point without incident, only to discover that the scene they had least wanted to see had nevertheless appeared.

After the earthquake and tsunami, Yi Chuping had used the Li family’s satellite to scan Blue Star.
He had obtained the simplest map of China as it currently existed, and he had designed their route based on it.
The first stopping point had originally been a landmark building.
When he discovered that there might still be land in this area, Yi Chuping had hesitated over whether to choose it as their stopping point.
But after realizing that there were no other suitable places nearby, he had deliberated for a long time before making his decision.
On the way there, he had kept praying that the worst possible outcome would not come to pass.
Yet fate still played a cruel joke on them.
No one knew how it had happened, but the landmark building had been almost entirely washed away. Only the uppermost section remained, frozen into the surface of the ice.
“Should we keep going? The boss and the others still haven’t caught up,” Shang Xingbing said as he walked over to Yi Chuping’s side and looked at the stone carving protruding from the ice.
“There’s practically nothing else around here. This is the place we chose beforehand. If we change our position, the boss and the others may not be able to find us.” Yi Chuping glanced across the boundless expanse of ice.
“Forget it. We’ll make do here for one night. At least this thing can block some of the wind.”
Too many changes could occur if they left, so they decided not to change locations after all.
The two iron monstrosities, together with the stone carving, would be enough to shield them from the wind and snow during the night.
Once he received the decision, Shang Xingbing immediately returned to organize everyone in pitching tents and starting fires to keep warm.
As the group busied themselves, darkness gradually descended. Wind and snow began to sweep across the ice, which had been calm moments before.
Xiao Qing sat beside the plastic window of the tent, Coal nestled in her arms, gazing anxiously outside.
When Feng Li and Liao Zhaonan entered the tent carrying supplies through the wind and snow, this was the scene they encountered.
The two exchanged a glance. Their eyes held the same worry, but neither dared show it in front of the child.
Now that the outside world had become like this, no one knew when it might return to what it once was. Nor did either of them know whether they would ever have children of their own in this lifetime.
Thus, whenever they faced Xiao Qing, they could not help imagining her as their own child, and they felt an especially deep tenderness toward her.
“Come and drink some hot water to warm yourself up. You haven’t fully recovered yet, so don’t catch a chill.” After finishing her preparations, Feng Li carried a steaming cup over to Xiao Qing.
“Thank you, Sister.” Xiao Qing glanced at her, lowered her head, accepted the cup, and murmured her thanks.
