Chapter 49: The System Speechless, the System Crashes
"Are you worried about Sister Xiaoyun?" Feng Li stroked her hair and asked softly.
"Yes," Xiaoqing nodded.
Feng Li sighed silently. She was also worried about Fang Yun, and she simply couldn't bring herself to say things like "she will be fine."
Back when Fang Yun went to Dongming Mountain, Feng Li had worried for so long that she suffered from frequent nightmares. Finally, they had managed to leave together, but somehow Fang Yun had claimed she forgot something. They had checked everything before leaving; nothing had been left behind.
As the sky grew darker and there was still no sign of Fang Yun or the others, Feng Li couldn't help but share her thoughts with Liao Zhaonan.
Liao Zhaonan gave her a meaningful look and replied, "Xiaoyun and Li Wangcheng are people who do great things. They have reasons for having to go back. We just need to wait for them to return."
Seeing Feng Li’s hesitation, he added reassuringly, "Don't worry. Xiaoyun has the ability to protect herself, and besides, Li Wangcheng is with her. They will be fine."
Hearing this, Feng Li managed to stop her mind from racing.
However, things were not going smoothly for Li Wangcheng and the others on the road.
Halfway there, they encountered a snowstorm that grew increasingly violent as time passed. Although the sled wasn't moving fast, it was still different from walking on solid ground. This meant the person driving the sled had to endure the raging wind and snow. No matter how strong Li Wangcheng’s physical constitution was, he couldn't keep pushing forward like this.
He was forced to stop midway. Looking at the surroundings, where visibility was less than five meters due to the storm, he knew it was nearly impossible to continue. If they were careless, they would truly get lost, making it difficult to reunite with Shang Xingbing and the others later.
Li Wangcheng stopped the sled and looked back at Fang Yun, who remained unconscious. He decided to rest for a while and see if the storm would show signs of letting up.
He went over to Fang Yun and rummaged through the supplies she had left in the sled, surprisingly finding a small tent. Regardless of anything else, it would at least provide some shelter from the storm. He quickly set it up and piled snow around the perimeter to prevent it from being blown away. He then carried Fang Yun inside to settle her down before moving the rest of the supplies in.
After all this, Li Wangcheng was exhausted, but he couldn't rest yet. He immediately lit the heater inside the tent and boiled some hot water for Fang Yun. Only after she drank some did a hint of color return to her pale face.
After waiting for a while, the tent grew slightly warmer. He cooked a packet of instant noodles to stave off his hunger and then tucked Fang Yun in with a warmed blanket. Sitting to the side, Li Wangcheng watched her, and a wave of fatigue slowly washed over him.
At the base camp, the tent was set up and basic heating was ready, but there was still no sign of Li Wangcheng and the others. Yi Chuping and Shang Xingbing stepped outside, and seeing that the storm was even worse than before, their expressions grew grim.
"I’m afraid this storm won't stop anytime soon. I wonder where the boss and the others are? They wouldn't have gotten lost, would they?" Shang Xingbing said, growing restless.
"I’m worried they might have stopped on the road. With no idea when this will end, one slip and they could be buried by the snow," Yi Chuping said, squinting into the sky, where nothing could be seen but endless wind and snow.
"Then what should we do? Should we go look for them?" Shang Xingbing, unable to sit still, wanted to brave the storm to find them.
Yi Chuping glanced at him without speaking. He was tempted, but the risk was simply too great. Even if they had a vehicle, ensuring they wouldn't get lost in such visibility was impossible. More importantly, Li Wangcheng would absolutely not want to see them at a time like this. If he found out they had disregarded their own safety and that of their teammates to come looking for him, he would surely give them a dressing-down. Of course, being scolded was a minor matter; his methods of punishment were far from simple.
Thinking of past experiences, Yi Chuping shuddered.
"Wait a little longer. If we still don't see them when the storm eases, we will leave immediately to find them."
Li Wangcheng, unaware that he had missed a rescue attempt from his subordinates, leaned against the tent, drowsy. As he started to drift off, his head lolled forward. The sensation of falling snapped him awake. He sat up, dazed for a moment before snapping into full alertness.
How long had he slept?
That was his first thought. He immediately checked Fang Yun’s temperature and breathed a sigh of relief when he found she wasn't cold. He realized that enduring like this wasn't a solution. Looking at Fang Yun sleeping across from him, he hesitated.
After a while, he got up and rearranged the tent on his knees.
He placed the supplies in the innermost part, moved Fang Yun to the center, and put the heater by her feet. He took the outermost spot, pulled the tent flap shut, leaving a tiny gap for ventilation, and folded the spare quilt to block the bottom of the flap. Only then did he lie down next to Fang Yun.
Lying together made them feel warmer. Li Wangcheng was truly exhausted and soon drifted off to sleep. The moment he did, Fang Yun’s eyelashes flickered.
[Host, you were truly too reckless! How could you push yourself like that!]
When Fang Yun regained consciousness, the first thing she heard was the system’s complaining. She felt as if she were dreaming; she could clearly see the state of her villa space, yet she couldn't touch anything inside. Of course, there was nothing left inside except a massive submarine and the construction debris, like bricks, beneath it.
"I didn't think it would turn out like this," she replied to the system with an awkward smile.
[Could you not have consulted me before doing something like that!]
The system was speechless and on the verge of a breakdown. Sensing its impending outburst, Fang Yun couldn't help but shrink back.
"What good would telling you have done? Could you have helped me take the submarine away?"
The system choked, unable to say anything for a long time. It truly couldn't have helped her take the submarine, but her recklessness had only made their already impoverished situation worse.
[You forcibly pulled in such a giant, crushing the space and damaging your own spirit, which is why you are now unconscious.]
"Ah? Then what should I do?" Fang Yun, realizing she couldn't wake up, panicked.
[I will use the last of my energy to repair you, but I will fall into a deep sleep as a result. Unless you can find energy stones to recharge me, I won't wake up again.]
"Wait, but I don't know where to find any energy stones!" Fang Yun was bewildered.
