[Dead]
[Cause of death: Head crushed by a radiated roe deer]
[Death reward: Strength +1]
[Initiating traversal...]
The text floating before his eyes brought a sense of relief to the deceased Xu Wang. Excellent, it appeared his hypothesis was correct. Only death by another’s hand could trigger his "golden finger." Once this was confirmed, things would be much easier. Next, he just needed to figure out the rules behind the death rewards. On this point, Xu Wang already had a rough guess.
Traversals were always swift and silent. While Xu Wang was still lost in thought, the new round of travel had already concluded. The flickering text refreshed.
[Traversal successful]
[Current world: The Amazing Spider-Man]
The sensation of firm ground returned. Noisy human voices filled his ears. The flickering words faded, and light gradually flooded Xu Wang’s vision. This appeared to be an American high school. It covered a decent area, and the people coming and going were all young, energetic students. In front of Xu Wang, near some outdoor circular tables, a group of students was gathered, though he could not tell what they were doing.
"Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!"
Suddenly, a rhythmic chant erupted from the crowd.
Xu Wang had always possessed an excellent memory. He could recall almost everything he had seen in his previous life. Given that the current world was *The Amazing Spider-Man* and comparing it to the scene before him, Xu Wang knew this was the very beginning of the film. At this moment, Peter Parker had not yet been bitten by the spider, nor had he become New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. If Spider-Man had not appeared, the Lizard certainly wouldn't have either. This meant Xu Wang would have to stay in this world for quite some time.
He speculated that his death rewards were likely related to the target that killed him. Therefore, to maximize his benefits, if he were to die, it had to be at the hands of Spider-Man or the Lizard. Ideally, he would have Spider-Man do the deed. With this in mind, Xu Wang quickened his pace and squeezed toward the onlookers.
"Move aside, move aside, or I’m going to drop my pants and take a dump."
Initially, no one paid him any mind as he pushed through. But the moment he mentioned dropping his pants, the surrounding students instantly cleared a two-meter radius, their expressions filled with shock. Xu Wang nodded in satisfaction and lowered the hand he had resting on his belt.
At the center of the crowd, a short-haired, noticeably tall and strong boy was holding another scrawny student upside down, pressing him toward a cafeteria tray. It was Flash Thompson bullying a student named Gordon. Following the original plot, Peter Parker would soon appear to stop Thompson’s brutality, only to get beaten up for his trouble. Looking at the scene, however, reminded Xu Wang of some rather unpleasant memories from his own childhood.
Furthermore, having not eaten for two days, he was truly hungry. Seeing Thompson about to shove Gordon’s face into the spaghetti on the table, Xu Wang rushed forward and snatched the bowl of meat-sauce pasta away.
"Hey! What are you doing!"
Thompson froze for a second, staring at this stranger in strange attire, caught off guard. "Are you here to stand up for Gordon?" Thompson frowned, staring at Xu Wang with irritation.
Xu Wang didn't feel like engaging him. He waved his hand dismissively. "Don't mind me, I'm just here to eat."
With that, Xu Wang began to eat the pasta in his hand, ignoring everyone as if they weren't there. For someone who had been hungry for so long, nothing was more important than a meal. If there was trouble, it would have to wait until he was full. The pasta tasted quite good, and Xu Wang ate with gusto. In just a few bites, the bowl was empty. He set the plate down and looked around, spotting an untouched burger nearby. Still not full, Xu Wang picked it up and shouted to the students, "Whose burger is this? If no one wants it, I'm eating it!"
"Three, two, one!"
"Alright! No one wants it, don't mind if I do!"
Xu Wang certainly didn't stand on ceremony; he grabbed the burger and shoved it into his mouth, taking a third of it in a single bite.
"Where did this hobo come from..." Thompson’s frown deepened, looking at Xu Wang with disgust. Yet, he hadn't given up on bullying his classmate. He pressed the scrawny Gordon down, trying to force him to lick the pasta plate Xu Wang had just finished. The surrounding students chanted again, "Lick! Lick! Lick!"
"Hey! Let him go!"
Peter Parker finally squeezed through the crowd. Though he hadn't gained his superpowers yet, Peter’s nature had always been kind. Faced with Thompson’s actions, he stepped forward to stop him without fear.
Thompson ignored Peter, laughing instead. "Parker! Quick, take a picture! Use your camera and snap him!"
Peter shook his head. "I won't do it." Seeing that Thompson still showed no signs of releasing Gordon, Peter raised his voice. "Hey! Let him go, Thompson!"
As Peter’s voice grew louder, a chorus of disappointed jeers rose from the surrounding students. Seeing Peter’s reaction and the mood of his peers, Thompson felt provoked, his mood souring further.
*Thump!*
He tossed Gordon to the ground and, with a cold expression, walked straight toward Peter.
"Hey, man!" Peter was still looking at Gordon, intending to help him up.
Thompson suddenly shoved Peter hard and threw a vicious punch! With a dull thud, Peter was knocked to the ground, caught completely off guard!
"Ooh!" The crowd cheered again.
"Get up, Parker!" Thompson roared at Peter, then delivered another heavy punch to the midsection of the boy who had just managed to rise. Struck hard in the stomach, Peter collapsed in pain once more.
Thompson prepared to throw another punch, but his hand was suddenly gripped tightly by someone else. He turned to look and found it was the Asian man in the dirty blue uniform.
"You!"
Before Thompson could say anything more, Xu Wang grinned, swung the metal cafeteria tray he had used earlier, and slammed it hard against Thompson’s face!
*Clang!*
The metal tray actually deformed from the force of the blow.
"Ah—! My nose!"
Xu Wang’s strike was not light. Thompson was knocked to the ground, howling in agony while clutching his bleeding nose.
"That is your punishment for intending to waste food. Please call me the Guardian of Sustenance, thank you."
As he spoke, Xu Wang bent down, grabbed a handful of dirt from a nearby flower bed, and, under the confused gazes of all the students, threw it directly into their faces with an expressionless look!
"Ah!"
With their faces covered in weeds and mud, the onlookers scattered, cursing Xu Wang as a lunatic. Xu Wang didn't react at all. The more they cursed, the more aggressively he threw the mud! It wasn't until the crowd of students ran off in terror that Xu Wang stopped, satisfied.
He did this for no other reason than he simply disliked the onlookers. When Thompson was bullying a classmate, their cheering and gawking made them no different from the bully himself. There was no need to be polite to bullies! It was just as well there wasn't a restroom nearby, or he wouldn't have just thrown simple dirt.
Dusting off his hands, Xu Wang picked up a bottle of soda from the table and prepared to leave. At that moment, Peter Parker, having witnessed everything, stood up and hurried to call out to him. "Hey, thank you! What’s your name? I’m Parker! Peter Parker."
"Hello, Peter. I’m Xu Wang. If one day in the future you can kill me with your own hands, you’ll be my brother from another mother! I’ll be very grateful to you, haha!"
Xu Wang turned back and waved at Peter, his words filled with anticipation. Listening to his words and looking at his hobo-like appearance, Peter worried about Xu Wang’s mental state.
"No offense, sir, but are you… alright?"
"I’m not crazy! I just want to be beaten to death, that's all."
Xu Wang smiled brightly and sauntered off. Watching his receding back, Peter felt a sense of bewilderment. Just then, Xu Wang, who had already walked some distance away, suddenly doubled back.
He looked at Peter with complete sincerity. "I’m going to go scavenge for trash. Give me your address so I can contact you later. You look pretty poor yourself; do you need me to scavenge enough to support you?"
"Huh?"
Peter was stunned by Xu Wang’s erratic train of thought. His intuition told him he had been targeted by someone very troublesome.
