Jiang Xiaofei lay on the bed, his hands behind his head, gazing at the ceiling as worries weighed heavily upon him. First there was the matter of the Ghost Emperor, and now it involved the Demon Emperor as well, making the situation increasingly complicated. The Ghost Emperor alone was difficult enough to deal with, and with the addition of the Demon Emperor, matters became even more tangled. Obtaining the second volume of the Netherworld Ghost Path seemed nearly impossible now, and even slaying the Ghost Emperor was uncertain.

It wasn’t a lack of confidence in himself, but rather that things had far exceeded his expectations. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sought Lin Ying’s assistance, especially since the Demon Emperor’s whereabouts were elusive, making him hard to find.

Turning these issues over and over in his mind, Jiang Xiaofei couldn’t help but think of Jun Yao, who was far away in the Netherworld.

“That’s right, perhaps my wife could help,” he thought, immediately sitting up cross-legged, closing his eyes and chanting a strange mantra.

This mantra was a method of spiritual communication he and Jun Yao had used; as long as one recited it, the other would sense it telepathically.

But soon Jiang Xiaofei’s brow furrowed, as there was no response whatsoever from the other side, not even the faintest sign. It was as if some mysterious force was blocking his connection.

He frowned, recalling that this had never happened before. Now that the mantra was failing, how could he not worry?

“Could something have happened in the Netherworld? Or did my wife encounter trouble?” With this thought, Jiang Xiaofei immediately stood up and chanted another spell.

A black, abyssal door suddenly appeared in the room.

This was the Ghost Gate, the entrance to the Netherworld.

As soon as the door appeared, Jiang Xiaofei stepped forward to enter.

But at that moment, his phone rang abruptly. He withdrew from the Ghost Gate, took out his phone, and saw that it was a call from Su Feifei.

“Why would the landlady suddenly call me?” Jiang Xiaofei wondered, feeling a bit puzzled as he instinctively answered. Su Feifei’s anxious voice came through, “Xiaofei, where have you gone? Hurry back, Old Wang has been taken away!”

“What? Old Wang…?” Jiang Xiaofei asked in shock, “Feifei, what happened? How did Old Wang get taken?”

“Just come back quickly!” Su Feifei was nearly in tears.

“Alright, I’ll be right back,” Jiang Xiaofei realized the gravity of the situation, hung up, and dashed out of the room.

In the hall, Zhou Shiqin and Lin Xuan were watching a movie. Hearing footsteps from upstairs, Zhou Shiqin frowned and looked up to see Jiang Xiaofei rushing down the stairs and heading straight for the door.

She hurriedly asked, “It’s the middle of the night, where are you going instead of sleeping?”

“I have something urgent to take care of. I’ll be back once it’s done. You two go ahead and sleep,” Jiang Xiaofei said, running out without looking back.

After leaving Fengshan Lake Estate, Jiang Xiaofei quickly hailed a taxi.

Mashijie was a hundred kilometers from the city, but at Jiang Xiaofei’s urging, the driver sped along and they arrived in just an hour.

After getting out, Jiang Xiaofei hurried toward the alley.

At this late hour, the alley should have been deserted, but Jiang Xiaofei heard a woman’s sorrowful crying.

He frowned and followed the sound, only to see Su Feifei standing at the door of the Yin-Yang Ghost Clinic, her nose red from crying.

Jiang Xiaofei quickly walked up. “Feifei, I’m back.”

“Xiaofei, you’re finally back. Please, find a way to save Old Wang,” Su Feifei clung to Jiang Xiaofei, as if his presence brought her comfort.

Feeling a bit awkward, Jiang Xiaofei gently pushed her away. “Feifei, tell me, what happened exactly?”

Su Feifei sniffled, “Old Wang was taken by a group of mysterious people.”

Jiang Xiaofei frowned, comforting her, “Don’t be sad, Feifei. Tell me, what did those people look like?”

Su Feifei recalled, “They wore black robes and masks, you couldn’t see their faces at all. But they claimed to be from the Demon Realm.”

“Damn…” Jiang Xiaofei felt a wave of unease.

Su Feifei asked, her brow furrowed, “What’s wrong, Xiaofei? Are those Demon Realm people hard to deal with?”

Jiang Xiaofei shook his head, “Not exactly. It’s just that they’re hard to track down.”

“What should we do then?” Su Feifei asked anxiously, her face full of sorrow.

Jiang Xiaofei quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, Feifei. I’ll find a way to save Old Wang.”

“Thank you,” Su Feifei choked up, “You know, Xiaofei, without Old Wang, I can’t go on.”

“I’ll do my best,” Jiang Xiaofei nodded. “By the way, where’s Wang Xiaokai?”

Su Feifei glanced at the lit window across the street. “I just coaxed him to sleep.”

“That’s good,” Jiang Xiaofei nodded, saying no more.

Su Feifei pressed, “Xiaofei, have you thought of a way?”

“I have.” Jiang Xiaofei nodded.

Su Feifei brightened, “Then let’s go rescue Old Wang right away.”

“Not yet,” Jiang Xiaofei shook his head.

“Why not?” Su Feifei pressed.

“I’m waiting for a friend. Only with her help can we locate Old Wang.”

“Then hurry and call her,” Su Feifei urged.

“Alright.” Jiang Xiaofei nodded and immediately called Lan Lianshuang. Her voice came through, “It’s so late, why are you calling me?”

Jiang Xiaofei replied, “Come to Mashijie, Alley Nine, it’s urgent. I need your help.”

“Alright, I’ll be there soon,” Lan Lianshuang said, then hung up.

After Jiang Xiaofei put down his phone, Su Feifei quickly asked, “What did your friend say?”

“She’s on her way,” Jiang Xiaofei replied.

“That’s good,” Su Feifei nodded, as if a weight had been lifted from her heart.

Jiang Xiaofei remained silent, deep in thought. He was curious why the Demon Realm would abduct Wang Dachui. After all, Wang Dachui was just an ordinary person; why would the Demon Realm go to such lengths?

“Could it be they want to use Wang Dachui’s pure yang constitution to help the Ghost Emperor regain his power?”

Suddenly, Jiang Xiaofei remembered something, and with that realization, he sensed the situation was even more dire. If the Ghost Emperor regained his strength, it would be disastrous.

Seeing Jiang Xiaofei’s grave expression, Su Feifei asked, “Xiaofei, what’s wrong? You look so pale. Are you feeling unwell? If you’re not, please tell me; don’t push yourself. I don’t want you to get sick because of Old Wang.”

Jiang Xiaofei shook his head and smiled, “Thank you, Feifei, but I’m fine.”

“Really?” Su Feifei looked at him skeptically.

Jiang Xiaofei smiled, “Really, see? I’m perfectly alright.”

“Alright then,” Su Feifei nodded, saying no more.

As they waited, at last a dazzling beam of headlights appeared ahead.
