Chapter Eleven: Encountered Again
“Sigh.”
Eileen sighed deeply, her eyes still flickering with fear. “I should have listened to you last night and not ordered takeout. I never imagined that in today’s society, people like that still exist...”
As she spoke, her whole body trembled uncontrollably. The thought alone terrified her—if the police hadn’t come, she might already be...
“Eileen, don’t think about it anymore. You’re safe now.” Lin Xiaoyan didn’t quite know how to comfort her. After such an ordeal, it was natural to feel shaken.
Glancing around the room, which was a single patient ward, Lin Xiaoyan asked, “Has your family come?”
Eileen, half reclining on the bed, shook her head. “I haven’t told them, but my boyfriend rushed back. He just went downstairs to buy me some food.”
“Oh, that’s good. It’s important to have someone taking care of you,” Lin Xiaoyan nodded.
Eileen looked into Lin Xiaoyan’s eyes and frowned. “Aren’t your eyes better now? Why are they red again? It looks serious. Maybe you should see an ophthalmologist.”
The moment the subject of her eyes was mentioned, a sharp pain flared in Lin Xiaoyan’s left eye.
“Ouch...”
“What’s wrong?”
Lin Xiaoyan forced a bitter smile. “It’s fine if I don’t think about it, but once I do, it hurts.”
“You really should get it checked. The eye clinic is on...”
Just then, a nurse came in to deliver medication to Eileen.
“Excuse me, nurse, could you tell me where the ophthalmology department is? My friend’s eye is very red and painful,” Eileen quickly asked.
The nurse glanced at Lin Xiaoyan’s eye and furrowed her brows slightly. “It does look quite severe.”
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoyan’s heart skipped a beat. Whether it was her imagination or not, the pain in her eye intensified.
“The eye clinic is on the second floor. Would you like me to take you there?” the nurse asked gently.
Lin Xiaoyan shook her head. “No, I can go by myself.”
Eileen urged her, “Please go see a doctor quickly. I’m fine here, and my boyfriend will be back soon.”
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoyan had no choice but to get up and say goodbye.
She really didn’t want to have her eyes checked here. She knew private hospitals were expensive and less reliable than public ones. She feared there might be hidden costs.
Her living expenses were already tight. If it got too much, she could always go back to her previous hospital.
As she stepped out of the room, a nurse approached and insisted on supporting her to the second-floor eye clinic.
“No, no, I can manage myself. There’s no need to trouble you,” Lin Xiaoyan refused repeatedly.
However, the nurse was overly enthusiastic and insisted on escorting her upstairs.
As they neared the eye clinic, Lin Xiaoyan felt a mix of helplessness and unease, unsure how to refuse and leave.
“This is it, the ophthalmology department of our inpatient ward. The chief physician is in the office. Don’t worry, let the chief take a look,” the nurse reassured her, knocking on the doctor’s office door.
Lin Xiaoyan frowned. She didn’t want to be examined—she just wanted to leave!
“Chief, there’s a patient here with severe redness and pain in her eye. Could you take a look?”
“Come in, let me see,” said a male doctor in his fifties with thinning hair, examining Lin Xiaoyan’s eye briefly before looking down.
“Lie down in the treatment room. I’ll come over to check,” he instructed.
Thus, Lin Xiaoyan was forced to lie on the treatment bed.
She calculated the cost of the chief physician’s consultation and the treatment fees in her mind...
If medicine was prescribed, she planned to leave without picking it up to avoid paying for it...
“Snap!”
A harsh light shone brightly above her, the lamp glaring directly into her eyes.
“Open your eyes, let me take a look,” the doctor said as he sat beside her, putting on medical gloves.
Lin Xiaoyan squinted; the light was unbearably harsh.
The doctor adjusted the lamp, and only then did she open her eyes fully.
“What’s wrong with your eye? How long has this been going on?”
Lin Xiaoyan explained her symptoms.
Then, the doctor reached out to pry her eye open.
The moment his hand touched her eye, a familiar sensation froze Lin Xiaoyan in place.
A vision unfolded before her eyes. When she recognized the person lying on the hospital bed in the scene, her breath caught.
Who could tell her why this time she was the main character in this vision?!!!
In the vision, she was being wheeled into an operating room.
Then, the doctor before her was removing her cornea and transplanting it into another person’s eye, leaving her alone on the operating table...
And in the vision, there were others also lying lonely and silent on operating tables.
They all lay motionless, some with huge holes where their hearts should be, others missing parts of their livers, and more...
Blood was everywhere, yet no one was stopping the bleeding; no one was around...
Lin Xiaoyan quickly looked away, refusing to watch any longer!
Unbelievably, this hospital was a cannibalistic hospital!!!
“Don’t move, I haven’t finished the examination!”
The doctor hurriedly grabbed Lin Xiaoyan.
She sat up quickly. “I... I have family matters. I can’t continue. I need to go back.”
The doctor pressed her down firmly. “Your eye is already bleeding and severely infected. You need a minor surgery. I suggest you get admitted now, or you risk losing your eyesight.”
Lin Xiaoyan no longer trusted his words.
If she followed his advice, she might truly lose her sight—or worse, lose her life!
She wanted to leave, but seeing the doctor’s firm demeanor, she knew it wouldn’t be easy. Reluctantly, she agreed.
The doctor released her and signaled a nurse to bring Lin Xiaoyan to complete the admission procedures.
The nurse nodded and smiled warmly as she helped Lin Xiaoyan to her feet and led her away.
At the elevator, Lin Xiaoyan looked at the nurse and said, “I didn’t bring anything with me, and my family isn’t here. I’d like to go home first to get my things, then come back to admit. Is that okay?”
The nurse’s eyes flickeredI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
