Chapter Twenty: You Are About to Die

Li Hongzhi glanced at Yang Lin, who smiled and nodded, signaling him to sit down and speak.
“I’ve discovered something…”
The three of them huddled together, speaking quietly about the matter.
Lin Xiaoyan, ever sensible, put on her headphones to listen to music and scroll through her phone, deliberately ignoring their conversation.
From a young age, she understood one truth: curiosity kills the cat.
Yang Lin glanced at Lin Xiaoyan and noticed her wearing headphones, completely unaware of what was happening around her. A faint smile flickered in his eyes.
He Qi’an looked disapprovingly at Li Hongzhi. “You trust people too easily. Didn’t I tell you before? Don’t guarantee anyone’s safety!”
Li Hongzhi rubbed his nose awkwardly. “I… I thought that anesthesiologist was a good person, that’s why…”
Yang Lin shook his head in disagreement. “Then what about me? Do I look like a good person to you?”
Li Hongzhi shot him a disdainful look and clicked his tongue.
Yang Lin laughed bitterly. “In the eyes of my patients, I’m a great guy! Everyone who’s ever interacted with me says I’m a good person!”
“Xiaoyan.”
Yang Lin called out toward Lin Xiaoyan.
She, oblivious, continued listening to her music.
Li Hongzhi was closest to her, so he leaned over and gently tapped her on the shoulder.
At that moment, a familiar sensation surged through Lin Xiaoyan.
Her body stiffened, and she looked at the scene before her with a hint of terror.
In the vision, Dr. Li was tied to the operating table, surrounded by a group of doctors in white coats, each wearing a malicious expression.
Then, a man in blue surgical scrubs appeared, holding a long syringe. With Li Hongzhi’s terrified gaze upon him, he injected some liquid into his body.
As the liquid entered his veins, Li Hongzhi gradually slipped into unconsciousness.
The final scene showed a white sheet being draped over him, as if marking his death…
After viewing the vision, Lin Xiaoyan suddenly raised her head and looked at Li Hongzhi.
Seeing the fear and pity on her face, Li Hongzhi was at a loss, unsure what it meant.
He reached out his hand. “He called you. I only tapped you lightly just now, wasn’t too hard, right?”
He Qi’an, noticing Lin Xiaoyan’s expression, put down what he was holding and stared at her. “Did you see something?”

Lin Xiaoyan nodded.
Yang Lin glanced at Li Hongzhi, then at He Qi’an. The two exchanged a meaningful look. If what Lin Xiaoyan claimed was true—that she had seen ominous events—then Hongzhi’s fate…
Lin Xiaoyan looked at Li Hongzhi with sympathy. “You’re going to die.”
“What?” Li Hongzhi stared at her, then turned to Yang Lin with a hint of grievance. “I really just tapped her lightly, didn’t use much force. Why is she cursing me? Is she your friend? Does she have problems?”
He pointed at his head and asked Yang Lin.
But Yang Lin and He Qi’an ignored him, their faces grave as they gestured for Lin Xiaoyan to continue.
She went on, “I saw him tied to the operating table, surrounded by a group of doctors. Then, a doctor wearing blue surgical scrubs injected some unknown substance into him, and gradually…”
Li Hongzhi’s anger faded as he listened, and he was stunned.
“Blue… blue surgical scrubs?” Li Hongzhi stammered.
He then looked at He Qi’an and Yang Lin. “Is she crazy?”
However, when he saw the heavy and sorrowful looks they gave him, his heart pounded wildly.
“What… what do you mean? What’s going on? What did she say?” Li Hongzhi asked, uneasy.
He Qi’an pointed at Lin Xiaoyan. “She can see bad things that will happen in the future. Just now, when you touched her, she saw what’s about to happen to you.”
Li Hongzhi listened in disbelief, looking between Lin Xiaoyan and Yang Lin.
Yang Lin nodded. “A few days ago, during a medical dispute, I was almost attacked and nearly lost my hand. She foresaw it and saved me.”
“!!!” Li Hongzhi’s heart sank.
He swallowed hard, his voice hoarse, “Don’t… don’t joke…”
He Qi’an walked over and opened his phone, ignoring Li Hongzhi.
“Among those people you saw earlier, how many appear in this photo?” He Qi’an held up his phone, displaying a group photo of all the doctors from Aier Hospital.
Lin Xiaoyan took the phone and examined it carefully. She closed her eyes to recall and pointed out a single person.
It was the ophthalmologist who had examined her eyes just yesterday.
“I need to touch him again,” Lin Xiaoyan said, looking at Li Hongzhi.
He Qi’an took out a pen and scribbled down the name of the doctor Lin Xiaoyan had identified.
Yang Lin nudged Li Hongzhi. “Come on, put your hand on her shoulder.”

Li Hongzhi reluctantly got up, confused, and placed his hand on Lin Xiaoyan’s shoulder. He was utterly bewildered, having never encountered anything like this.
Lin Xiaoyan closed her eyes and scrutinized the people in the vision, pointing them out one by one in the photo.
Li Hongzhi’s heart sank when he saw the faces she indicated—these were the very people they had been investigating all along!
“Is the man in blue scrubs in this photo?” He Qi’an switched to another picture.
Lin Xiaoyan looked through it and shook her head. “No.”
He Qi’an continued changing photos, but in the end, they still couldn’t find that person.
“What does he look like? Can you describe him?” Yang Lin asked softly.
Lin Xiaoyan thought for a moment and spoke slowly: “He wears black-rimmed glasses, is thin, has a sharp nose, and very thin lips.”
He Qi’an listened and then asked Lin Xiaoyan, “Are you a science student?”
Lin Xiaoyan’s eyes widened. “You’ve investigated?”
He Qi’an gave her a strange look.
Lin Xiaoyan was puzzled.
Yang Lin laughed. “He means your language skills are poor, and your description isn’t great.”
Lin Xiaoyan: …
Suddenly, she remembered something. “Right, that man has a black mole on one of his fingers.”
Li Hongzhi trembled at the words and stared stiffly at Lin Xiaoyan. “Are you sure? Which finger?”
Lin Xiaoyan held out her hand and pointed to the middle finger. “Here.”
Li Hongzhi stared at the spot she indicated for a long time, speechless.
He Qi’an and Yang Lin looked at Li Hongzhi, unimpressed by his ignorance.
Yang Lin patted Li Hongzhi on the shoulder. “Submit a sick leave to Aier Hospital immediately. Don’t go back there. After some time, hand in your resignation.”
He Qi’an’s eyes darkened with a sharp intensity as he stared at Li Hongzhi. “You’re an undercover agent, but you’re incompetent. You’ve exposed yourself. When you return, write a self-criticism report for your superiors.”
Li Hongzhi raised his head, his eyes red. “Understood.”
He had made a grave mistake—trusting the wrong person and mistaking the culprit for a good man. If not for Lin Xiaoyan today, he might have been killed…
