Volume One, Chapter 61: An Unexpected Invitation
Jiang Yu replied to that brother, and instantly the comment section exploded again.
“Damn, the dog author finally found something he wants to eat. Anyone from Jiangxia, go block him, catch him at that restaurant!”
“That’s right, catch him and make him write. Don’t let him go until he’s written at least ten thousand words.”
“I’ve already called a cab!”
Jiang Yu’s reply sent the fans into a frenzy. Truth be told, he regretted replying as soon as he had done so. But on second thought, these people didn’t even know what turkey-flavored rice crackers looked like.
So he decided not to pay it any more attention and hurried outside.
“Xiaoyu, Auntie, I know where to eat now,” Jiang Yu said excitedly, naming the restaurant.
“Great!” Su Muyu answered immediately.
“You really know how to eat!” Su Ling laughed. “I already made a reservation!”
…
Since it was close by, the three of them drove to the restaurant. After getting out of the car, Su Ling was fine, and Jiang Yu was wearing a mask, so he didn’t stand out. But even with a mask, Su Muyu still caused a stir.
There was no denying it—this woman was simply stunning. Wherever she went, she was the first person people noticed in a crowd.
She was dressed beautifully today, too—a calf-length skirt showing off legs as fair and smooth as lotus roots, high-heeled sandals on her feet, her toenails glimmering.
The three of them hurried into the restaurant. After ordering, Jiang Yu and Su Muyu began chatting.
Su Ling, on the other hand, was constantly on the phone.
“Jiang Yu, you’re amazing.”
“All my friends are asking about you!”
“How did you get such a brain?”
“Good thing I trust Muyu. If a genius like you ended up at some other company, I’d have suffered a huge loss!”
Jiang Yu scratched his head shyly.
Su Muyu sat next to him, her eyes filled with a gentle warmth that was hard to describe.
Just then, Su Ling’s phone rang again.
“So annoying, can’t even have a meal in peace.” After the call, Su Ling grumbled, “Jiang Yu, Muyu, you two eat. Something’s come up at the company—I need to go handle it.”
Su Muyu stood up. “Should I come help?”
“No need!” Su Ling shook her head, then looked at Jiang Yu. “Jiang, I’ll leave first. Take care of Muyu and send her home after you finish eating.”
Without waiting for Jiang Yu’s reply, Su Ling hurried off, leaving Jiang Yu and Su Muyu alone in the private room, exchanging glances.
It was obvious Su Ling was giving them space.
Just then, the food arrived—a whole tomahawk steak.
“Shall we eat first?” Jiang Yu looked at Su Muyu.
Su Muyu nodded. “Alright.”
But when he cut into the steak, red juices oozed slowly from the meat’s fibers.
Jiang Yu was silent for a moment. “Is this undercooked?”
“Sir, this is medium-rare. That’s not blood—it’s myoglobin. This is A10-grade wagyu; medium-rare offers the best flavor.”
Su Muyu looked at him. “Are you not used to it?”
Jiang Yu’s face turned awkward, his lips trembling. “It’s too cooked. I usually just chase after the cow and bite right in!”
He really wasn’t picky about food, but he did want it properly cooked!
A sudden burst of laughter escaped Su Muyu, her eyes curving into crescents.
The waitress froze.
Jiang Yu looked at the waitress. “Don’t just stand there—could you cook it well-done for me? If I eat it like this, I’ll be running to the bathroom for two days!”
The waitress looked about to cry.
Su Muyu said softly, “Don’t make it hard for her. If it’s well-done, you might not be able to chew it.”
Jiang Yu fell silent again. “Alright, then just cook it as thoroughly as you can.”
The waitress quickly hurried out.
“So, you get to rest for another week. Any plans?” Su Muyu asked.
Jiang Yu shook his head. “I don’t know. Probably just stay at home. What about you?”
“I need to keep shooting. This show will take a while to finish.”
“And after that?”
“There’s a new project coming up, directed by Chen Guosheng. He’s preparing a drama called ‘The Great Han Dynasty.’ After seeing my performance in ‘The Qin Emperor,’ he called to invite me to audition. I haven’t decided yet.”
Wow, Chen Guosheng—he’s the most renowned director in China.
“What’s there to think about? Of course you should go!” Jiang Yu asked curiously.
Su Muyu shook her head. “It’s too long. The two shoots will be back-to-back. By the time I’m done, you might not even recognize me.”
“How could that be?” Jiang Yu thought for a moment, then grinned. “If I have nothing to do, I’ll just visit your set.”
“Really?” Hearing that, Su Muyu couldn’t help but feel a surge of joy. “But our crew has a rule—visitors can’t come empty-handed. You have to treat everyone, either to food or drinks.”
“…Then forget it.”
“I’ll help you get it ready.”
“I was joking. It’s not a big deal!” Jiang Yu smiled, though he was gnashing his teeth inside. Why didn’t anyone tell him visiting the set would cost a fortune?
Just then, his phone rang. It was Director Yang calling.
“Director Yang, what’s up…”
As Jiang Yu answered the call, Su Muyu, with nothing to do for the moment, started browsing on her phone.
Suddenly, she saw a post from the author of “Immortal Execution,” Turkey-Flavored Rice Cracker.
She loved the novel and naturally followed the author.
To her surprise, the usually inactive author had actually posted today.
Even more surprising, he was in Jiangxia—apparently on vacation—and asking for food recommendations.
Looking through the comments, she discovered he had replied to a fan about this very restaurant.
Could he be here right now?
But Jiang Yu knew the author—so why hadn’t anyone greeted them when they came in?
She checked the time of the post.
It seemed to coincide with the time the three of them decided to come here.
Su Muyu suddenly looked at Jiang Yu.
Could it be…
But Jiang Yu didn’t notice the change in her expression. He was still on the phone.
“You want me to go to the capital? What’s the matter, Director Yang?”
“All right, I understand. I’ll take tomorrow’s flight to Beijing.”
“No need to arrange a pickup. Just give me an address—I’ll get there myself.”
“Okay, thank you, Director Yang.”
After hanging up, Jiang Yu looked at Su Muyu. “Director Yang just called—he wants me to go to Beijing.”
“What for?” Su Muyu asked.
Jiang Yu shook his head. “He didn’t say, just that there are some things he wants to discuss. Sorry, I might not be able to visit your set.”
“That’s okay,” Su Muyu shook her head. “Go ahead. I’ll tell Auntie for you.”
“Shall I take you home?”
Su Muyu nodded.
They left the restaurant. Just as Jiang Yu was about to hail a cab, Su Muyu said, “Let’s walk a bit, get some fresh air.”
Jiang Yu nodded. Having just eaten, a walk would help him digest, and her place wasn’t far.
The weather in Jiangxia was pleasant. The streets were busy with traffic, but the two of them strolled along, feeling a tranquil peace.
“Ah—”
Suddenly, Su Muyu let out a soft cry as she lost her balance.
Jiang Yu quickly steadied her. “Are you okay?”
Su Muyu looked at him with a trace of grievance. “I twisted my ankle.”
Jiang Yu glanced around and saw a bench nearby. He helped her over and sat her down, then knelt to gently remove her shoe.
“It’s a bit swollen. Bear with it—I’ll massage it for you.”
Su Muyu nodded. When Jiang Yu’s warm hands touched her cold foot, she felt an unfamiliar sensation in her heart.
“I didn’t know you could give massages.”
The system was truly a wonderful thing—it had maxed out every skill tree for him.
“Surprised? There’s a lot I can do.”
“But could you focus on the massage and stop glancing at my chest?”
Jiang Yu cursed inwardly. Men really couldn’t help themselves, but having been caught, he remained unfazed. “You’re overthinking it. I’m a gentleman.”
But feeling the softness in his hands, he wondered how anyone could resist.
“Could you be a bit gentler? It hurts.”
“Did I hurt you? I’ll be softer…”
“I feel much better now.”
“It’s not enough yet. Let me massage a bit longer.”
Hmph, last time by the campus lake, he tricked me—this guy likes looking at my chest and playing with my feet!
A hint of reluctance flashed in Jiang Yu’s eyes as he let go of her foot, then squatted down again. “Come on, I’ll carry you home.”
Su Muyu leaned gently onto Jiang Yu’s back.
“I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow,” she said.
Jiang Yu paused for a moment, then continued walking forward.
“Alright.”
