Volume One, Chapter 107: Our Little Yu
The song "I'm Not a Rapper" swiftly climbed to the top of the new releases charts across major platforms. In just a single week, Jiang Yu’s fan base surged by several hundred thousand, edging ever closer to the five-million mark.
Because of Jiang Yu’s recent developments, Huayue Entertainment was currently in the midst of a meeting. In the conference room, Su Ling was forceful and commanding, suppressing all the shareholders, though everyone could see the joy sparkling in her eyes. The group of middle-aged and elderly men beside her wore gloomy expressions, unable to utter a word in protest.
When the meeting concluded, Su Ling returned to her office and, upon seeing Su Muyu, couldn’t hold back a hearty laugh.
“Xiaoyu, you’re here! Hahaha!”
“What’s got you laughing like this?” Su Muyu looked at Su Ling in bewilderment.
Su Ling took a sip of water. “You should’ve seen the looks on those shareholders’ faces.”
Previously, when she signed Jiang Yu with an S-level contract, the shareholders had voiced plenty of complaints. But now, Jiang Yu’s success was clear for all to see, and Su Ling could finally hold her head high before them.
Seeing her aunt’s triumphant demeanor, Su Muyu couldn’t help but laugh as well.
“Where’s Jiang Yu?” Su Ling asked, still basking in her pride.
“He’s at home, resting for a few days. He’s been busy lately, so I thought we’d let him recharge.”
“You just spoil him!” Su Ling teased with a laugh. “But Director Chen called again. He’s here in Jiangxia and wants to have dinner with us. He stressed a thousand times that Jiang Yu must come along.”
“He still hasn’t given up,” Su Muyu said helplessly.
“He’s been so persistent—so sincere about it. I think Jiang Yu should at least give it a try.”
Su Muyu nodded lightly, thinking for a moment. “Alright, I’ll call him and ask, see if he wants to come.”
“He’d better come. If he doesn’t, I’ll go drag him here myself!” Su Ling declared.
Su Muyu smiled and dialed the number.
“Hello, Director Chen is here today, at the Jiangxia Grand Hotel. He’d like to discuss the matter from last time. Will you come?” she asked, her voice gentle.
Su Ling, unable to contain her irritation, grabbed the phone. “You little rascal, stop lazing around at home. This afternoon, Director Chen is expecting us at the Jiangxia Grand Hotel. I’m your boss, and your aunt, too. Are you going to listen to me or not?”
On the other end, Jiang Yu’s languid voice drifted through.
“Auntie, why are you so fired up? Who upset you?”
“Who else but you! This time you’re not allowed to refuse. If you do, I swear I’ll come drag you out myself.”
“But I never said I wouldn’t go...”
“What was that?” Su Ling was still ranting when she suddenly registered what Jiang Yu had said. “Wait a minute, did you just agree?”
Jiang Yu chuckled. “You’re at the company, right? I’ll be right over.”
With that, he hung up.
Hearing the beeping tone from the phone, Su Ling stared blankly for a moment and turned to Su Muyu. “Did he just say yes?”
“Isn’t that great?” Su Muyu replied with a gentle smile.
Not long after, Jiang Yu arrived at the company. Before he could say a word, Su Ling grabbed his arm. “You’ve always refused before—what made you change your mind so suddenly?”
Ever since Su Muyu had referred to him as “our Jiang Yu” in front of her friends the other night, Jiang Yu had given the matter a lot of thought. He couldn’t bear the idea of Su Muyu playing the romantic lead opposite someone else. So, when Su Ling asked him today, he didn’t refuse; he agreed right away.
Seeing Su Ling’s curious face, Jiang Yu just smiled and sidestepped her question. “Auntie, it’s about time. We should go meet Director Chen.”
“Oh, right, right, I’ll go arrange for a car.”
With that, she hurried out of the office to make arrangements.
Su Muyu, just as curious, came up to him. “What made you change your mind so suddenly?”
Jiang Yu grinned. “I can’t bear the thought of our Xiaoyu acting as someone else’s romantic lead!”
At these words, Su Muyu was instantly reminded of what she’d said to her friends that night, and her ears turned red. “So what, from now on, you’ll be the male lead in every show I act in?”
“Absolutely!”
“Hmph!” Su Muyu gave a playful snort.
Just then, she felt her small hand being gently held, and her body tensed in surprise—but there was no resistance in her heart. This time, Jiang Yu was taking the initiative.
“The car’s ready! Time to go!” Su Ling burst in at that moment, catching the two just as they were caught up in each other. They quickly let go of each other’s hands.
“Auntie, your timing is just impeccable!” Jiang Yu said, half exasperated.
“Huh?” Su Ling looked bewildered.
Su Muyu, giggling, gave Jiang Yu a little shove. “Don’t mind him, Auntie. Let’s go.”
They made their way to the Jiangxia Grand Hotel. Inside, Chen Guosheng was sitting and leafing through a thick stack of scripts. Standing before him were a man and a woman—the man handsome, the woman rather ordinary in looks but with a striking presence. The woman was speaking incessantly.
It looked like the man was an actor and the woman his agent, likely discussing opportunities.
Although Chen Guosheng wore a smile, he seemed somewhat perfunctory.
At that moment, his assistant noticed Jiang Yu and the others and quickly alerted him.
“Director Chen!”
Jiang Yu and his group greeted him.
The unfamiliar man and woman also noticed Jiang Yu and his companions, and the man’s eyes lit up at the sight of Su Muyu.
Chen Guosheng turned and immediately greeted them warmly. “You’re finally here!”
“Xiaoyu, you’re even more beautiful than before!”
“President Su, congratulations on signing such a promising talent!”
When he shook Jiang Yu’s hand, he teased, “Xiao Jiang, congratulations on your new song topping the charts. You’re so popular now, it’s hard to even get a meeting with you!”
Jiang Yu scratched his head in embarrassment. “Director Chen, you’re making me blush with all this praise.”
“President Su, Su Muyu, I never expected to see you here!” the unfamiliar woman greeted them as well.
The male actor approached, wearing a gentle smile. “Xiaoyu, we meet again!”
Jiang Yu narrowed his eyes slightly at this familiar address, saying nothing.
Su Muyu frowned. “Qin Tianhao, please call me Su Muyu. We’re not close enough for you to use that nickname.”
Qin Tianhao, rebuffed so bluntly, let out an awkward laugh.
His agent, annoyed at his faux pas, quickly changed the subject. “Director Chen, about what we discussed earlier—Qin Tianhao taking the lead in ‘The Great Han Dynasty’—do you think we can confirm it today?”
At this, Su Ling shot Chen Guosheng a questioning look.
“It was Xin Juan who contacted me, hoping to get the role for Qin Tianhao,” Chen Guosheng explained.
Meanwhile, Qin Tianhao sidled up to Su Muyu again. “Xiaoyu... Su Muyu, I’m so glad we get to work together again.”
Su Muyu gave him a cold glare, about to refuse, when another voice cut in.
“Sorry, but the lead in this project belongs to me.”
