Bai Chenxi let out a sharp breath and threw back the covers, staring at her bandaged legs.

She bit her lip, trembling as she reached out to squeeze her legs. Then, biting down hard, she lowered her head, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes.

Chu Muyun gently wrapped an arm around Bai Chenxi’s shoulders. “It’s all over now. Don’t be afraid.”

Bai Chenxi broke down into sobs in Chu Muyun’s embrace, who held her tightly, feeling a bittersweet joy as if reclaiming something lost.

Fortunately, there was still time. Chu Muyun stroked Bai Chenxi’s back soothingly, whispering, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”

But Bai Chenxi only cried harder, clutching Chu Muyun’s neck as if she might suffocate from the sobs.

Seeing this, Chu Muyun realized she was truly frightened. Despite her own neck turning red from the tight hold, she softened her voice to comfort her gently.

Outside the door, Xiao Wen wiped the nonexistent sweat from her brow. The goddess’s cries echoed so loudly through the hallway, it was impossible not to hear.

Xiao Wen glanced warily at Xiao Yu standing nearby. “Don’t rush in now!” Xiao Yu, calm and composed, trusted Chu Muyun completely.

Bai Chenxi cried for an unknown length of time before finally tiring, resting her head against Chu Muyun’s chest, sobbing in soft gasps.

After a long pause, as if summoning courage, she looked up at Chu Muyun. “Chu Muyun, be honest with me. Are my legs... are they going to be paralyzed?”

Chu Muyun gazed at the bowed head, understanding at last the source of her tears.

She reached out to gently stroke Bai Chenxi’s head. “What are you thinking? Your legs are perfectly fine.”

Bai Chenxi’s eyes brimmed with fresh tears. “Don’t lie to me. I just squeezed my leg and felt nothing at all. If I can still walk, what else could it be?”

Tears spilled down her cheeks again, one after another.

Chu Muyun cupped her face, tenderly wiping the tears away with his fingertips. “It’s just the anesthesia wearing off. Trust me—your legs are fine.”

Instantly, Bai Chenxi collapsed into Chu Muyun’s arms. “You scared me. I thought I’d never walk again.”

Chu Muyun ruffled her tear-streaked nose. “I promise, once you heal, you’ll be running around like nothing ever happened.”

Just then, Wang Ling burst into the room, startled by the intimate scene before her. The shock was overwhelming.

She shot a fierce glare at Xiao Wen, who had followed her in, realizing why she had been so reluctant to let her enter earlier.

Both Chu Muyun and Bai Chenxi, flushed, quickly separated as Wang Ling’s gaze shifted.

Chu Muyun nodded toward Wang Ling, but she ignored him completely, fixing her eyes on Bai Chenxi.

Bai Chenxi didn’t know where to look, timidly calling out, “Sister Wang.”

“How’s your injury?” Wang Ling finally softened.

“I’m in pain~” Bai Chenxi whimpered, her eyes swollen from crying, looking utterly pitiable.

“What do you want to eat? I’ll go get it for you.”

Chu Muyun caught Bai Chenxi’s shy smile and couldn’t help but grin.

Wang Ling then looked at Chu Muyun tentatively. “If she wants something, have him buy it.”

Chu Muyun met her gaze. “What do you want? I’ll get it.”

“Anything is fine.”

“Oh! Then white rice porridge it is!” Chu Muyun’s disdain for her white rice porridge was evident.

Watching Chu Muyun and Xiao Wen leave, Wang Ling sat down, worry etched on her face. “How did this happen? What happened to your injury?”

“I just remember running, then there was an explosion nearby. I barely managed to dive aside, and then nothing.”

“Xia Yan brought you here,” Xiao Yu added. “Your injuries aren’t serious. Just rest well and you’ll recover.”

Wang Ling breathed a sigh of relief. She had rushed over upon hearing Bai Chenxi was injured on set. Hearing she was okay eased her mind.

But her brow furrowed again. “Now tell me about Chu Muyun!”

Bai Chenxi feigned ignorance. “What about him?”

“Are you still playing dumb? What’s your relationship with him? He rushed over as soon as you got hurt.”

Bai Chenxi mumbled, “Maybe it was just a coincidence that he was nearby. We’re really just friends.”

Wang Ling didn’t buy it. “Friends? Friends don’t rush over like that, and hold you that way.”

Before she could finish, Lin Yue barged in, inspecting Bai Chenxi’s legs closely. “How bad is it? Can you walk?”

Bai Chenxi comforted him. “It’s okay. The doctor said just to rest and heal.”

Despite her own injury, she found herself comforting others.

Lin Yue suddenly pulled her into a hug, murmuring, “I’m just glad you’re okay. You scared me.”

Recalling Wang Ling’s words, Bai Chenxi laughed softly, looking at her. “Friends, friends.”

Wang Ling thought: Could there be a faster self-contradiction?

Lin Yue glared at her. “You’re laughing? On my way here, I was worried you might be disfigured or disabled.”

Bai Chenxi playfully pushed him away. “Are you cursing me?”

Lin Yue mumbled, “It’s a reasonable concern. I even thought about what I’d say to comfort you.”

Curious, Bai Chenxi asked, “What are you muttering about?”

“Nothing, nothing. I’m just glad you’re okay.”

At that moment, Chu Muyun returned with the porridge. Xiao Wen looked puzzled. “Chu Ge, didn’t you say white rice porridge?”

Chu Muyun shot a glance at Xiao Wen but said nothing. She’d figure it out herself.

Near the elevator, they bumped into Xia Yan, who had come to visit Bai Chenxi. The two exchanged a glance and entered the elevator silently.

Xia Yan looked at the floor numbers flashing up. “I never thought I’d meet the ‘King Chu’ here.”

Chu Muyun smiled faintly. “I haven’t thanked you yet. Thanks for getting Chenxi to the hospital. Not just this time, but the last time too.”

Xia Yan frowned. “If anyone deserves thanks, it’s Bai Chenxi. King Chu should focus on his own affairs first.”

Xia Yan was right—Chu Muyun had pressing matters. He had abruptly left halfway through filming, sparking rumors of diva behavior.

Some speculated that he had left to see Bai Chenxi after her accident.

Reporters waited long hours but never saw Chu Muyun; instead, they caught Lin Yue.

Fans of Bai Chenxi were worried. Some irritable ones accused Chu Muyun of being self-centered and dragging Bai Chenxi into the scandal to deflect attention.

This angered Chu Muyun’s fans, who reminded them they hadn’t minded the previous rumors of their relationship when it suited them.

Now that trouble came, they were quick to distance themselves, turning their backs without a second thought.

Both fan bases were in turmoil, with a few irrational fans from each side sparking heated arguments.

Only when the managers and major fans intervened was the conflict temporarily quelled.

But after all this, a rift remained between the fan groups.

This was just the beginning. When trouble arises, everyone will be eager to wash their hands of it. What would happen next?
