Chapter Seventy-One: An Old Friend
Bai Chenxi and Jiang Jize finally remembered the connection between Chu Muyun and this Meng Ling.
Once, when Chu Muyun visited his office, he saw a resume on Jiang Jize’s desk.
Unexpectedly, he commented, “This Meng Ling isn’t bad.”
The moment he said this, Jiang Jize’s eyes lit up. Who was Chu Muyun? He was aloof, indifferent to worldly affairs, almost as if he wasn’t human—
Ahem! Almost as if he was otherworldly. For such a person to say a girl was decent, that was highly unusual!
Jiang Jize looked at the resume and then at him, struggling to link Chu Muyun to a fresh graduate girl.
He wanted to ask more, but Chu Muyun had already fallen silent.
Jiang Jize stared at Meng Ling’s resume, not in any rush. Once she was brought in, wouldn’t there be plenty of drama to watch?
Yet from that day on, Chu Muyun never mentioned Meng Ling again. The two had no further interaction.
Unable to witness any excitement, Jiang Jize soon forgot all about it.
Now that Chu Muyun brought up Meng Ling again, along with Bai Chenxi, Jiang Jize’s curiosity burned brightly.
Chu Muyun, of course, saw through his scheming thoughts and tossed him a cold remark: “You’d better deal with all these messy affairs first. Hanging up!”
Jiang Jize had no time for gossip now and hurriedly called out, “Wait a minute, the reason this matter spread so fast is because there’s a hand behind the scenes.”
“Who?” Chu Muyun’s voice came from the other end, sending a chill down Jiang Jize’s spine: terrifying!
“It’s that Li Keke. As soon as she saw news about Bai Chenxi online, she couldn’t wait to add fuel to the fire.”
Chu Muyun narrowed his eyes, “Li Keke, she really fears being forgotten, doesn’t she? Are you prepared for that matter?”
Jiang Jize understood exactly what Chu Muyun meant and replied, “Almost done!”
“Hmm?” Chu Muyun’s dissatisfaction was evident.
Jiang Jize added, “Boss, this isn’t slow at all. If we’re going to do it, we have to do it thoroughly!”
Chu Muyun pondered for a moment and finally agreed, “Then handle this first.”
Jiang Jize tentatively asked, “And Meng Ling?”
Chu Muyun was silent for a while before saying, “Give me Meng Ling’s contact information.”
As if anticipating Jiang Jize’s next words, Chu Muyun cut him off directly: “No nonsense.”
After hanging up, Jiang Jize gradually realized something: this was very suspicious.
Receiving Chu Muyun’s call, Meng Ling was pleasantly surprised. Though she couldn’t see him, she still smoothed her hair.
With a smile on her lips, she sweetly said, “Brother Muyun, is something the matter? This is the first time you’ve called me!”
“What’s going on between you and Bai Chenxi?” Chu Muyun’s questioning froze Meng Ling’s smile.
“Brother Muyun, the first time you contact me is because of Bai Chenxi?”
Chu Muyun ignored her feelings and continued, “Don’t deliberately target her. She has nothing to do with this.”
“No connection?” Meng Ling questioned in disbelief. “Then what about Sister Xiaoya? Have you forgotten her too?”
Hearing Meng Ling’s words, Chu Muyun frowned, his entire demeanor exuding a chilly pressure. “I don’t know who gave you that misconception, but there’s nothing between me and Wang Xiaoya. You have no reason to stand up for her.”
Listening to Chu Muyun, Meng Ling simply refused to believe, “Brother Muyun, if there’s a misunderstanding, can’t you just clear it up? Sister Xiaoya still loves you. You—”
Chu Muyun impatiently interrupted her, “Meng Ling, if you want to be foolish, that’s your business. If you hurt Bai Chenxi again, you’ll bear the consequences.”
Staring at her abruptly ended call, Meng Ling said fiercely, “Bai Chenxi, just you wait.”
After filming, Bai Chenxi lay on her bed watching TV and suddenly sneezed out of nowhere.
She rubbed her nose: Who’s thinking of me now? Really, can’t catch a break.
Just as she finished that thought, Chu Muyun’s call came. Bai Chenxi looked at her phone in disbelief—such timing!
She answered, “Hello! Brother Chu, is something up?”
“What, can’t I call you if there’s nothing?”
Hearing Chu Muyun’s words, Bai Chenxi was stunned. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the words, but coming from Chu Muyun, it felt so unbelievable!
“Bai Chenxi!” Chu Muyun called softly, “Looks like you really don’t welcome me—you’re not even speaking.”
Bai Chenxi immediately replied, “Not at all! Brother Chu, you can call whenever you want, anytime.”
Chu Muyun’s laughter came through the phone, “Really?”
“Of course.” Bai Chenxi almost wanted to pat her chest in assurance, but then remembered he couldn’t see her.
Though Chu Muyun couldn’t see, he could imagine Bai Chenxi’s little expressions, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
“How’s your first day on set?”
Bai Chenxi replied with a touch of self-mockery, “Brother Chu, I suggest you check the trending topics. They know more about how my day went than I do!”
Chu Muyun spoke calmly, but his tone was unusually gentle, “I saw, but I want to hear it from you.”
