Mastering all the tests in Easy Mode, as well as achieving intermediate proficiency with cold weapons, put Yang Fan through twenty days of torment. Yet, in those twenty days, Yang Fan transformed from someone completely ignorant to someone who could take on five peers at once.

Twenty days in the virtual world equaled more than half a year in reality, for this illusory realm was profoundly mysterious—not just a place for training, but for awakening as well.

——

When he opened his eyes, his body and mind felt an unprecedented sense of elevation. Before him stood Zhu Liang, Chen Ming, Zack, Liu Xue—now fully dressed—and the others they had rescued earlier.

“Boss, you’re awake?”

“Boss, you’ve finally woken up. He was right—you’d be out for a day, and it was exactly a day, not even a minute more.”

Chen Ming and Zhu Liang spoke in turn. Yang Fan rubbed his eyes, and Zack, sitting with his legs crossed, said energetically, “I can’t believe you actually passed the trial. But I wonder—which difficulty did you pick? Easy? Medium? I absolutely don’t believe you could survive the Hard or Extreme modes.”

The others were baffled by Zack’s words.

But Zack spoke the truth—Yang Fan had cleared the medium difficulty. With a sigh, Yang Fan turned to Zhu Liang and said, “Go check if the things I told you to do yesterday are done. If not, gather up everything that’s been completed. And the rest of you, prepare yourselves. There could be a major crisis at any moment.”

Yang Fan spoke with utter seriousness. Zhu Liang left immediately, and the rest of their expressions changed. They now regarded Yang Fan as their backbone; if he said danger was coming, it was no joke. The atmosphere grew heavy.

From Zhu Liang and Chen Ming, Yang Fan learned he’d been unconscious for a day—just as Zack had said. This should be the tenth day of the apocalypse. The system’s voice would likely arrive soon, so Yang Fan waited patiently for noon.

A dozen minutes later, Zhu Liang returned.

“Boss, we managed to print a thousand and six copies. But a small number were taken by others,” Zhu Liang said, looking displeased.

“Don’t mind it,” Yang Fan replied. He knew this would happen—the Monster Compendium Zack bought for him would surely attract attention, so it was only natural a few copies had been seized. Comforting Zhu Liang, Yang Fan asked him to fetch the remaining materials.

Soon, at Zhu Liang’s call, the door opened and several soldiers entered, each holding a white printed handbook. Ten minutes later, over a thousand copies were stacked in the corner. No one knew what Yang Fan intended to do with them.

Was he going to trade them? With whom?

But then, something astonishing happened. Yang Fan walked up to the pile, waved his hand, and all the copies vanished.

This scene left many speechless. Was this a magic trick?

Given the current age of apocalypse, though, people barely managed to accept it. After all, with zombies roaming the earth, a little “magic” was hardly the strangest thing anymore.

A total of one thousand and six copies—none missing. Yang Fan immediately put a thousand of them on the virtual trading platform, reserving six for himself. He wasted no words; he knew these would be snapped up instantly. As soon as they went up, several copies sold. In NC City, with a population of five million, at least three or four hundred thousand had inherited the system. Even if half died in ten days, there would still be over a hundred thousand survivors. A thousand copies of such vital information was barely enough.

He set the price at fifty Apocalypse Credits—a fair price. Yang Fan’s primary aim was profit, but he also hoped more system inheritors would survive. That way, humanity itself might endure.

To his surprise, however, the copies sold out in an instant.

He earned fifty thousand Apocalypse Credits in minutes, exceeding his expectations. The first thing Yang Fan did was repay Zack’s five hundred credits. Then, he purchased an item called [True Eagle Eye]—an enhancement for his previously acquired eagle-eyed pet, allowing it to detect any dangerous creature within three hundred meters.

It cost two thousand credits, but with money in hand, Yang Fan bought it without hesitation.

He also bought some basic equipment—firearms for two or three hundred credits apiece, the 69-standard pistol as a benefit for his team. He gave the Radiant Gauntlet to Chen Ming, who, as a summoner, needed defense most. Zhu Liang, being a martial artist with tough skin, got a variety of level-three to five potions instead.

After quickly arming his group, Yang Fan bought a set of first-tier Explosive Talismans—ninety-nine credits each, a hundred in total, costing ten thousand credits. Using Liu Qiaoqiao’s discount method, the total came to less than eight or nine thousand, saving three or four thousand credits.

Just then, the system’s voice echoed in everyone’s minds…

“Lowly humans can no longer bear this world. I will proceed with your transformation. Prepare to be remade.”

As the voice faded, everyone fell into unconsciousness...

——

“The system has been updated to a certain extent. Life value, magic value, attack power, defense power, all skill levels, and regional forums—citywide and nationwide—have been added. Equipment attributes have also been optimized for balance.”

That was the system’s message. Yang Fan immediately checked his stats, not even bothering to ask how long he’d slept. The others were also beginning to wake.
