Chapter 19: Let Me Show You for Real
I certainly wouldn’t let him have me; the switch on the pepper spray baton in my hand was already flipped on.
“I won’t beg you, nor will I cry. If you’ve got the guts, come and get me.”
I taunted Qi Yuzhou, and in anger, the man pressed his lips to mine.
Just then, his phone rang, displaying the name “Jin Siqi” on the screen.
He hesitated for a moment but answered the call.
His expression immediately turned as dark as water, a trace of impatience flickering in his eyes, yet his voice remained gentle and soft. “Jin Siqi…”
On the other end, Jin Siqi’s voice trembled with tears, as if burdened by a great grievance. “Brother Qi, I heard you’re on a business trip. Why didn’t you bring me along?”
Qi Yuzhou’s tone softened slightly, as if struggling to suppress his inner emotions. “This mission is challenging; I wouldn’t want you to suffer.”
“But Brother Qi, without my care, I’m worried too. I’ll come over right now…”
“No need,” Qi Yuzhou cut her off decisively.
Jin Siqi wasn’t giving up easily; a hint of coquettishness entered her voice. “Please let me come keep you company.”
“Good girl, I’ll be back the day after tomorrow,” Qi Yuzhou soothed her. “Siqi, I’m very busy now. Go to sleep obediently, alright? Be good…”
After hanging up, it seemed the call had ruined his mood; he lost all interest in continuing to entangle with me.
“Get lost,” he spat coldly.
A cold smile curled at the corner of my lips, filled with scorn and derision.
Once he had fallen asleep, I stealthily took a few photos for future use.
The next morning, I woke up near ten o’clock.
After freshening up and stepping out of the room, I saw Qi Yuzhou sitting in the living room, his face dark as storm clouds, staring at me.
His fierce gaze startled me. “President Qi, do you have any instructions?”
Qi Yuzhou suddenly rose from the sofa. His tall figure was like a mountain, radiating immense pressure. Each step he took as he approached felt like a weight pressing down on my heart, an invisible force bearing down on me.
“Hurry up and get ready. We’re leaving,” he said, eyes narrowed.
Qi Yuzhou shoved me into the car and threw a few documents at me.
With a stern face, he said, “You’re posing as a staff member. Just read off the lines exactly.”
“President Qi, rest assured. I’ll cooperate fully with your work.”
He glanced at me coldly, snorted, and started the engine.
Half an hour later, we arrived at the partner company.
Clutching the files, I hurried behind Qi Yuzhou.
As soon as we entered the company’s front door, a beautiful receptionist greeted us warmly, her eyes filled with a mixture of reverence and respect. She respectfully addressed Qi Yuzhou, “Good morning, President Qi.”
Qi Yuzhou nodded and asked coldly, “Is President Li inside?”
The receptionist pointed toward the meeting room. “President Li is waiting for you inside.”
Holding the documents, I followed Qi Yuzhou into the meeting room.
Inside, several people were already seated.
One man in a deep blue suit immediately stood upon seeing Qi Yuzhou, his face beaming with enthusiasm as he greeted, “Ah, President Qi, you’ve finally arrived. And this must be…”
“This is assistant Qin Xin,” Qi Yuzhou introduced briefly, his tone devoid of emotion.
I quickly and politely greeted President Li, forcing a smile on my face.
President Li glanced at me with a smirk. “Oh? President Qi brings such a beautiful assistant this time. He must be quite fond of Miss Qin Xin. Having such a delicate presence by your side, President Qi is truly fortunate.”
His teasing comment sparked laughter among those around.
Qi Yuzhou’s expression darkened instantly, clearly displeased, his eyes flashing anger and discontent.
With a stern face, he said, “President Li, let’s get down to business.”
Seeing this, President Li quickly toned down his smile and spoke seriously. “Very well, let’s get straight to the point. President Qi, as you know, we’re partnering with an internationally renowned enterprise. This project demands a huge investment, so we must engage a team with high professionalism and excellent reputation…”
President Li continued at length, but Qi Yuzhou’s face grew increasingly grim. His hands clenched into fists, veins bulging, as if struggling to contain his fury.
As expected, when President Li finished his lengthy speech, Qi Yuzhou’s face darkened, and without mercy, he interrupted sharply, his voice cold as ice. “Is President Li implying that the Qi Group is unworthy?”
President Li hastily waved his hands, a flattering smile plastered on his face as he said anxiously, “Of course not, not at all. The Qi Group’s reputation precedes it; we would never question that. We just haven’t truly witnessed it firsthand and are being cautious.”
Qi Yuzhou seemed not to hear him, standing silently, his deep eyes revealing no emotional fluctuation.
Seeing Qi Yuzhou’s silence, President Li grew bolder. “President Qi, with all these partners and experts here, you must convince us wholeheartedly.”
Finally, Qi Yuzhou raised his eyes slightly, cast him a cold glance, and spoke calmly but resolutely, leaving no room for doubt. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Qi Yuzhou clapped his hands, and the professional team stepped forward to showcase Qi Group’s advantages and the benefits of cooperation.
But the toughest to deal with remained the sly and smiling President Li.
Naturally, I wouldn’t accept favors from Qi Yuzhou without reciprocation.
Seizing the moment while they talked, I prepared in a nearby office, brewing over ten cups of top-grade tea with my best tea-making skills, then brought them into the meeting room to place before the attendees.
President Li, a connoisseur with a keen nose, immediately picked up a cup and sipped.
“Excellent tea!”
After praising, he looked at me. “President Qi, your secretary’s tea skills are quite impressive.”
Qi Yuzhou appeared refined and elegant. “President Li, I hope our cooperation will be pleasant.”
“Pleasant cooperation!”
President Li surprisingly stood and extended his hand, agreeing to the project collaboration.
“However, miss, I wonder if President Qi would be generous enough to let me have her?”
Qi Yuzhou smiled faintly. “I am naturally magnanimous, but Miss Qin Xin is an employee of our company. Moreover, she currently has President Jin protecting her.”
“President Jin? Jin Shixun?!”
“Exactly,” Qi Yuzhou nodded.
That scoundrel was clever enough; now the other side could no longer make things difficult.
After leaving the meeting room, my phone suddenly rang.
The moment I answered, my heart sank as if pressed by a massive stone, an ominous feeling rising within me.
I thought it might be Jin Shixun coming to confront me, but it turned out to be the counselor from Sha Xiaoqi’s school.
“Hello, teacher. Is there something wrong? Is Sha Xiaoqi doing well at school?”
