Chapter 8: Who Has Fallen into Whose Trap?
Jin Siqi threw me onto the sofa and stomped on my foot. “I’m telling you, stop clinging to my Qi Gege. What do you think you can still get?”
She glared at me fiercely. “I’m telling you, don’t ever think you can snatch away what I like! Playing the innocent mistress? You should see if you even have the ability for that!”
I lay on the sofa, aching all over, but gritted my teeth and endured it, staring back at her with nothing but disdain in my eyes.
Jin Siqi kept glaring at me so viciously.
I felt utterly ridiculous.
Who was she to accuse me?
I stared straight at her, a stubborn light flickering in my eyes, a mocking smile tugging at the corner of my lips.
“I don’t need your pity, and I never intended to take anything from you. Whose fault is it if your man can’t be controlled?”
My words stunned Jin Siqi into silence, and she stood there for a long moment, unable to react.
I got up from the sofa and brushed my disheveled hair.
“Maybe you just don’t have what it takes.”
“What did you say?!” Jin Siqi’s eyes ignited with fury. “You’re saying I don’t have what it takes?”
I stood over her, looking down with a hint of contempt. “What else? Being completely infatuated with that man you call ‘yours,’ are you going to admit you’re not as good as me?”
“You…” Jin Siqi trembled with rage, her face pale, but she quickly regained her composure. “What exactly do you want?”
“You think I want something?” I laughed, brighter and more radiant. “You said you love your Qi Gege, right? I can stay far away from him, but I want money—five million! Once I get that, I’ll disappear without a trace…”
The smile on Jin Siqi’s face froze for a moment but soon returned to its usual scorn. She looked at me with disdain. “You even deserve to talk about money?”
“As long as the money is paid, I’ll behave and stay away from your Qi Gege!”
Jin Siqi’s expression darkened even further upon hearing my words.
Watching her like that, my heart began to race.
To be honest, I couldn’t read Jin Siqi’s mind, nor was I sure if she would agree.
Though Jin Siqi loved Qi Yuzhou deeply, paying five million for a man was hardly worth it. But for my own safety, this deal had to be made.
I looked at her, my expression turning serious and resolute. I spoke slowly.
“Jin Siqi, don’t forget, if Qi Yuzhou marries you, you’ll be the legitimate lady of a wealthy family. Isn’t that what you’ve always dreamed of? Would you really care about this small amount of money?”
A strange light flickered in Jin Siqi’s eyes, a trace of hesitation crossing her gaze.
Seeing this, I pressed my advantage immediately.
“If you’re willing to pay this sum, I’ll vanish completely. Qi Yuzhou will never have any ties with me again.”
Just then, Secretary Jiang’s phone rang. Seeing it was a call from Jin Shixun, he hurriedly answered.
“President Jin, what’s the matter?”
“Secretary Jiang, why aren’t you at the office yet?”
Jin Shixun’s puzzled voice came from the receiver.
Secretary Jiang was also confused. Didn’t President Jin have something to attend to today? Why was he suddenly asking this?
“President Jin, I am at the office. Weren’t you supposed to rest today? Why…”
“I just met with a client. I’m already downstairs at the office! When did I say I was resting?”
Jin Shixun’s words shocked Secretary Jiang.
He looked up at the office’s floor-to-ceiling window and saw a Bentley slowly pulling into the parking lot, with Jin Shixun stepping out of the car.
“President Jin, this…” Secretary Jiang stammered nervously.
“What’s going on exactly?”
“I don’t know…”
Jin Shixun’s tone carried a hint of anger, as if he was suppressing something.
Soon, Secretary Jiang received a call from him and, while walking, explained everything. Jin Shixun seemed to understand something and immediately led Secretary Jiang to the surveillance room.
“Pull up the footage from my office,” Jin Shixun ordered. Secretary Jiang hurriedly checked the recordings.
On the screen, Jin Siqi and I were confronting each other, and at that moment, I was asking Jin Siqi for five million.
Jin Shixun frowned deeply as he watched the scene.
He glanced at Secretary Jiang, his eyes full of confusion.
Secretary Jiang nervously looked back and quickly explained.
“President Jin, rest assured, I’ll get to the bottom of this immediately…”
“No need,” Jin Shixun waved his hand. “Whether it’s true or not, don’t get involved.”
Secretary Jiang looked at Jin Shixun in surprise.
Jin Shixun’s fists clenched tighter as he listened to my every word inciting Jin Siqi, his eyes burning with intense rage.
Secretary Jiang dared not say another word and left the surveillance room as ordered.
Jin Shixun stared at our expressions on the screen, his anger growing. As he listened to our conversation, he suddenly slammed his fist against the monitor, shattering the screen into pieces that tinkled sharply as they fell.
Hearing the glass break, Secretary Jiang quickly pushed open the door and caught Jin Shixun’s outburst. He rushed forward to steady him, anxiously asking, “President Jin, are you alright?”
Jin Shixun’s face was twisted with fury, veins bulging on his forehead.
His eyes narrowed, glowing with a dangerous light, as if he could explode at any moment.
“President Jin…” Secretary Jiang called tentatively, “Are you okay?”
Jin Shixun turned to him, his gaze cold and fiery.
His voice was low but chilling enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
“How dare she threaten Jin Siqi!”
Secretary Jiang shuddered in fear.
“President Jin…”
“Get out!” Jin Shixun growled, eyes filled with fierce hostility.
Secretary Jiang glanced at him and dared not speak again, slipping out of the surveillance room in defeat.
Jin Shixun stared at the broken monitor with murderous intent, kicking over the table, leaving the surveillance room in chaos.
Secretary Jiang quickly ran out and headed to Jin Shixun’s office.
The next moment, I tucked the bank card away and headed straight for the door.
Someone like Jin Siqi could come looking for trouble at any time.
She had demanded that I not stay here recently, not wanting me to appear in front of Qi Yuzhou.
Although I had easily gotten the money from Jin Siqi this time, I knew things wouldn’t be so simple.
Jin Siqi wouldn’t hand over such a large sum so easily.
And she would probably investigate me. If she ever discovered my true identity…
But I would never give her that chance.
Taking a deep breath, I hailed a taxi, planning to visit Sasha’s younger brother, Sha Xiaoqi’s school.
Just as the taxi arrived and before I could get in, a sudden grip on my arm yanked me away.
I looked up in confusion and saw Secretary Jiang!
