Volume One, Chapter 20: Fu Hanzhou Found Me
The group looked at one another, sinking into a heavy silence.
The old matriarch, as if struck by a sudden thought, waved her hand in dismissal. "You all should leave."
Su Wanyue and Su Rong departed arm in arm. Fu Hanzhou frowned, saying, "Tang Xing is fine. Please, don't overthink it."
The matriarch’s body went rigid. *Xing’er isn’t dead? Then why do I keep dreaming of those terrifying scenes?* Just recalling them left her bathed in cold sweat.
As the others left, the butler closed the door and helped the matriarch back to bed.
"How is the investigation into what I asked you to check?"
The old butler pulled out a screenshot on his phone. "According to our search, Miss Xing’er has not left City A these past few days. This means she is still within the city."
The matriarch was stunned. "How is that possible? If she is in City A, how could she not come to see me?"
The butler shook his head; he had no answer. "Madam..." he tried to continue, but she waved him away. "You may go." The butler let out a long, weary sigh.
The matriarch felt a lingering sense of unease.
I felt a surge of pity and tried to reach out to touch her face, but my hand passed through her cheek, over and over again. I broke down in tears! Why was I the one who died? Why did I lead a life of kindness and virtue, only to meet such a miserable end? Heaven, you are blind!
I pointed at the sky and roared in agony!
*CRACK!*
A bolt of lightning from a clear sky struck the car Su Wanyue was sitting in! The driver scrambled out in terror, staring dumbfounded as the front of the car erupted into a massive blaze. Su Rong clutched Su Wanyue in fright, looking around anxiously. "What happened? How could it suddenly catch fire like that?"
Su Wanyue turned pale with fear. When Fu Hanzhou arrived downstairs and saw the Su family’s car struck by lightning, he rushed toward Su Wanyue in a panic. "Are you and the baby alright?"
Su Wanyue’s eyes turned red as she buried herself in his arms, sobbing. "My sister’s dark magic is getting stronger! Hanzhou, I’m so afraid our baby won't make it to birth!"
Fu Hanzhou frowned. "Are you saying this lightning was summoned by Tang Xing’s sorcery?"
Su Wanyue nodded. "Just a few days ago, I found many books on dark arts in her room, along with notes cursing others to death. Thinking about it now, only my sister could possess such dark powers."
Fu Hanzhou was skeptical; after all, he was a man of science, and such things seemed incompatible with the modern world. Su Rong was also half-convinced. "Wanyue, are you sure you didn’t misread them?"
Su Wanyue looked at her pitifully. "Godmother, I have no reason to lie to you. If you don't believe me, come home with me. I have proof."
Su Wanyue was insistent. Though skeptical, the others wanted to see if things were as she claimed. To prove her innocence, Su Wanyue searched my room the moment they arrived. She discovered yellow paper talismans under the bed and hidden drawers containing sticky rice and red ink, all of which looked deeply ominous.
Fu Hanzhou frowned. "Why didn't you tell me about this before?"
Su Wanyue played the victim. "I didn’t think my sister would ever do something to hurt our family! Even if she hates me, she shouldn't disregard Godmother’s safety. Sister Tang Xing must have been consumed by evil."
Stoked by these words, Su Rong trembled with rage. "That wretched girl! How dare she strike at me!"
Su Wanyue hugged her affectionately. "Godmother, Sister didn’t mean it." Su Rong looked at her with heartache. "If Tang Xing had even half of your sense, I would be at peace."
Watching their display of maternal affection, I felt like an outsider.
Fu Hanzhou, his face dark with fury, called his secretary. "Book tickets to Sanya immediately!"
The secretary checked the weather forecast. "Mr. Fu, a typhoon is approaching. All flights are grounded. To get to Sanya, you’ll have to take the train."
Fu Hanzhou’s expression hardened. He ground out a single word: "Book it!" He hung up.
Nearby, Su Wanyue pulled out a small doll pierced with needles, which she claimed to have found under my bed. Fu Hanzhou stared at the doll, its swollen belly bristling with silver needles. He shook with rage. "Tang Xing, you would even target a pregnant woman!"
I was frozen in shock! I screamed and railed, desperately trying to explain, "It wasn't me! Fu Hanzhou, I’ve been framed!" But no one could hear me. In that moment, I felt a profound sense of helplessness.
"Brother Hanzhou, don't blame Sister Tang Xing. If you must blame someone, blame me. I shouldn't have come back."
Su Wanyue acted with such feigned submission that Fu Hanzhou, moved by her distress, pulled her into his arms to comfort her. "Wanyue, this has nothing to do with you. I’ve finally seen the true face of that cold-hearted woman, Tang Xing. As soon as I find her, I will divorce her!"
*Rumble—*
His words felt like nails pinning me to a pillar of shame. He believed her! He believed Su Wanyue’s lies! If he had only stopped to think about my character, how could he believe I would do such an evil thing to a pregnant woman?
Su Wanyue leaned into Fu Hanzhou’s arms. At an angle where he couldn't see her, she curled her lips into a venomous smile. I felt a chill run down my spine. See? This was Su Wanyue’s power—a single sentence from her could decide my fate.
Fu Hanzhou received a call; Secretary Li had arrived.
"Brother Hanzhou, where are you going?" Su Wanyue asked, her face full of anxiety.
"I’m going to find Tang Xing. Her location is traced to a hotel in Sanya. I will drag her back myself and make her kneel and apologize to you!"
Fu Hanzhou was livid. Su Wanyue froze. "I’m coming with you! I want to ask her to her face why she would commit such a heinous act against my unborn child!"
Fu Hanzhou looked at her tear-filled, aggrieved eyes and finally let out a long sigh. "Fine."
Once in the car, Fu Hanzhou headed straight for the train station. As the esteemed president of the Fu Corporation, it was his first time on a train. It was far less comfortable than a plane, and he suffered greatly—naturally, he blamed all his anger on me.
I sneered. I would love to see how Fu Hanzhou planned to find a dead person.
Upon arrival, Fu Hanzhou went straight to the hotel in Sanya. According to the front desk, I was in the rooftop swimming suite.
"Brother Hanzhou, please, don't be too hard on Sister Tang Xing. She must have been blinded by jealousy to betray you like this." Even now, Su Wanyue didn't forget to fan the flames.
Fueled by rage, Fu Hanzhou kicked the door to the swimming suite open. The door splintered and creaked. Even Su Wanyue looked frightened. Watching the scene, I knew Fu Hanzhou wouldn't stop until he "found" me.
"Tang Xing, get out here!" Fu Hanzhou roared at the entrance. Suddenly, there was a commotion on the other side of the pool.
I saw a group of men and a woman fleeing in a panic. To my shock, the woman was wearing an outfit identical to my favorite Chanel dress. How could this be? I was stunned.
Fu Hanzhou saw them and tried to give chase, but was blocked by an iron gate as the woman, dressed just like me, was whisked away by the men. I was curious; the woman never showed her face, and her departure was carefully concealed. Who on earth was impersonating me?
"AAHHH!!!"
Fu Hanzhou let out a primal roar and slammed his fist into a window! Sharp glass shards embedded themselves into his flesh.
"Brother Hanzhou!" Su Wanyue kissed his wounds with heartbreaking tenderness. But Fu Hanzhou, blinded by rage, ignored her.
"Tang Xing, to think you’d dare cheat on me! I will never let you get away with this!"
