Volume One, Chapter 32: Grandmother Is in Trouble
After saying that, she gave it a forceful shove.
“Ah!!!”
The shrill scream startled Tang Feng, Su Rong, and Tang Yu into rushing upstairs.
As soon as they reached the upper floor, they saw Su Wanyue holding a bowl of ginseng soup, turning around in terror to look at them.
Su Rong stared at her for a long moment before asking, “Wanyue, what happened? Where’s the clan leader?”
That child feared neither heaven nor earth and was extraordinarily bold; she did not show even the slightest trace of fear. If Qin Munian ever learned that she had done something so dangerous, he would probably smack himself across the face more than eighteen hundred times. After all, she had learned this skill from him in the first place.
Teng Yuyi was puzzled. Why had she been frightened so badly? If Abbot Yuanjue had not personally confirmed that Duan Qingying was perfectly fine, Teng Yuyi might truly have suspected that she had been tainted by some evil presence.
“Ah, yes, yes, exactly! It has to look convincing!” To everyone’s surprise, Fang Lei’s eyes lit up.
The Yi residence was pondering the dowry, while the Xie household was preparing the betrothal gifts. The two matrons were both busily arranging the wedding, so absorbed in their happiness that they had forgotten everything else. Every other day they spoke on the telephone, exchanging updates.
The tofu pudding was sprinkled with chopped scallions and flecked with oil. Yi Siling knitted her brows and only reluctantly tasted a spoonful after the third young master had talked himself hoarse trying to persuade her.
A photograph of her wearing a traditional Chinese dress embroidered with dragon patterns also appeared in the news of those countries.
Qian Guihua was calculating that she would have to go out and buy more sweets and sesame seeds later when Shitou returned carrying steamed buns.
Just then, when everyone thought that Ye Yaoqin’s attitude toward them might soften somewhat because of Zhuge Bai’s presence, Ye Yaoqin watched Zhuge Bai return to his seat and withdrew her gaze, preparing to begin the lesson. Her expression suddenly changed, instantly reverting to the cold and stern countenance with which they were all familiar.
The technicians from Chasing Light began reporting what they had uncovered. Sneaking into the European and American markets was all too common; from hackers and insiders to record stores, every link in the chain was riddled with vulnerabilities.
Other hosts had to rack their brains to complete their missions. Why was its host always racking her brains to exploit it instead?
If the time and place had been appropriate, Jiang Jinyan would have lowered his head and kissed her fiercely, using that gesture to show that he believed in her with all his heart.
They had to find a way to get Liu Yun out. She could not appear in person, and no one could know about her relationship with Liu Yun.
He personally went to the Jiang family with his second younger brother, Chu Hua’en, to apologize, but they were turned away at the door. In desperation, he proposed a marriage alliance as a last-ditch gamble, never expecting matters to develop beyond his predictions. The company struggled on amid countless difficulties, but it was not yet on the verge of bankruptcy.
The car was trapped in the traffic, unable to move forward or backward. Jiang Jinyan lowered the window a crack and spoke in a cool voice that brooked no argument.
“Master Jin! Do you think we can make it through this?” someone asked the moment he spotted Skinny, looking as though he had just seen his savior.
Besides, if they claimed that this trip had been arranged at the old madam’s request, her parents would feel more at ease.
The moment Kang Jie walked through the door, Qi Chisu noticed that something was different about him. For once, he had not come home wearing his usual grim expression; he even seemed to be in a rather good mood. Qi Chisu also keenly detected the scent of perfume on him.
I was still standing there in a daze when the burly middle-aged man across from me roughly opened his door. He cast a curious glance at Yu Minghui and me, snorted through his nose, and clattered down the stairs.
Jiang Meixin was accustomed to Jiang Jinyan’s icy expression whenever he faced her. Her face, now free of every scar, wore a sweet smile as she eagerly stepped forward to take his arm.
The food Qi Chisu prepared earned Xu Yuman’s endless praise. She kept saying that Kang Jie was incredibly fortunate, and that if she were a man, she would want to marry Su Su and bring her home.
How could she have known that the old butler did not know how to do it either? He only knew that red was indispensable, so every place where something could be hung or pasted was covered in red.
