Susan remained indifferent and looked at her parents. "Dad, Mom, his name is Ye Yun. We have already registered our marriage. From now on, he is my husband..."
Smack!
Before she could finish, Yang Huiru, whose face had already turned ashen, dashed forward and slapped her hard across the face.
"Wretched daughter, do you want your father and me to lose all face and die of anger before you finally stop?"
Pointing at Susan, Yang Huiru was furious, trembling with rage.
Susan covered her swollen cheek, tears instantly welling up in her eyes.
"Mom, I know you're angry and think I’m acting recklessly."
"But after careful consideration, I don't want to marry into the Fang family."
Yang Huiru shouted viciously, "Fine! That Fang Jiahao is a scion of an esteemed family, and you look down on him?"
"His father is a formidable figure in Jiangnan City, involved in both legitimate and underground affairs—a true tiger in the mountain."
"With such conditions, you reject him, finding fault everywhere. Now tell me, what qualifications does the little security guard you brought home have to compare with the Fang family?"
Susan was at a loss for words. Ye Yun, just a security guard, indeed had no standing to be compared with the multi-billion-dollar Fang family.
Yang Huiru’s eyes blazed with fury, ready to hurl more insults.
Ye Yun stepped forward, blocking Susan, his face showing a hint of defiance.
"So what if I’m a security guard? Security guards make a living with their own hands and don’t depend on anyone."
"Besides, Auntie, Susan is an adult now and the Vice President of the Su Group."
"You scolding her like this in front of everyone—it’s a bit excessive!"
Susan’s father, Su Wen, slammed down his teacup, his expression darkening.
"Young man, you’re bold to talk big like that."
"Our daughter is ours to raise; it’s none of your business to interfere."
Yang Huiru shouted back, "That's right, you little bastard, get lost!"
"I tell you, my daughter is a phoenix from the heavens, the pride of the Su family. I don’t care what drugs you gave her. There will never be anything between you two."
Ye Yun frowned, his expression not just rebellious but menacing.
He was a notorious troublemaker, no doubt—the kind who had stirred chaos on an international scale and had been sent to this small place in Jiangnan to cool off.
As for the Su family, to be honest, aside from Susan, the rest were small fry.

"Dad, Mom, no matter how much you fuss or say, it’s useless now."
Susan forced a bitter smile.
"I know exactly what kind of person Fang Jiahao is."
"Maybe marrying into the Fang family could boost the Su family’s power and wealth."
"But that’s not what I want. Besides, the Fang father and son are far more sinister and ruthless than you imagine. Whether this is a blessing or a curse, no one can say."
Yang Huiru stomped her feet, seething, "Fine, fine, all the hard work your father and I and the whole Su family put into connecting with the Fang family has been completely wasted by you."
"In that case, I won’t care anymore. Do as you please, drag yourself down however you want."
Su Wen’s elder brother, Su Qiang, straightened his suit and approached with a forced smile.
"Younger brother, sister-in-law, it seems Shanshan would rather choose maggots in the mud than stars in the sky."
"I know you wanted to marry into the Fang family for a powerful son-in-law, but unfortunately, Shanshan has peculiar tastes and prefers the lowliest."
Yang Huiru’s anger flared up again. "Su Qiang, watch your words."
Su Wen scowled, "Brother, what do you mean by that?"
Su Qiang shrugged, feigning innocence. "Nothing much, just that I think this security guard isn’t so bad."
"Physically able, presentable, let him live off you, and he should be able to take care of you in old age. Ha ha ha!"
With that, he left laughing, accompanied by his daughter Su Xuan.
Leaving Su Wen and Yang Huiru with faces ashen with anger.
Su Qiang’s words were loaded with sarcasm and hidden insults. How could they not understand?
"Shanshan, your mother and I went through so much hardship to establish ties with the Fang family."
Su Wen looked at Susan with deep disappointment.
"You don’t appreciate it, and you disgrace yourself, bringing shame to the Su family."
"What’s your status? And what’s the status of this security guard? Your families are mismatched; you two won’t last long."
Susan’s beautiful eyes filled with tears. "Dad, I’m sorry to disappoint you."
"I don’t expect to be with him for long."
"I just hope he can silence the gossip."
"At least no longer will the family or Fang Jiahao pester me."
Su Wen waved them away. "Since you’ve made up your mind, there’s no use in arguing."
"As for the Fang family, your mother and I have lost face enough."
"Shanshan, it’s up to you to handle it. Coincidentally, young Master Fang has left the family and started his own company."

"Remember to bring a generous gift to congratulate them. And also, dissolve the marriage."
Susan pressed her lips. "Understood, Dad."
Once she left the Su household, her strength drained, and she nearly collapsed.
Ye Yun caught her. "Are you okay?"
Susan pulled away, her face cold. "Don’t touch me without my permission from now on."
Ye Yun shrugged. "I just caught you before you fell. Don’t misunderstand."
Susan snorted coldly. "Ye Yun, I’ll be honest with you."
"I sought you out because I needed a compliant shield."
"Nothing more. Sorry, I have no feelings for you."
To Susan’s surprise, Ye Yun wasn’t angry at all.
His expression was calm, even smiling. "I know."
"Just like when we registered the marriage, I can’t say I’m into you either."
"I simply had no choice. Since the kid’s already here, I have to take responsibility."
Susan felt a strange irritation. "Suit yourself!"
She felt uncomfortable seeing Ye Yun’s pride wounded and his dignity trampled.
"You’re coming with me to Young Master Fang’s new company’s opening banquet. Ugly daughters-in-law have to be presented to the in-laws sooner or later, even if you’re a live-in son-in-law."
He pulled out a card and handed it to Ye Yun like a tip. "Take this, go buy yourself a decent suit."
Ye Yun didn’t even glance at it. "No need, I already have one."
Susan sneered, thinking Ye Yun was just putting on an act. No way a security guard owned an expensive suit.
At the street corner, Ye Yun opened the back door of a waiting Rolls-Royce and got in.
Anyone who knew the city’s landscape would be shocked.
Because this Rolls-Royce belonged to the richest man in Jiangnan City.
And right now, the city’s wealthiest, Liu Quanhui, a man with immense fortune, was acting as Ye Yun’s driver.
"Master Yun, are you heading home or somewhere else?"
