Chapter 107: The Terrifying Glass Descent (Part One)

Tang Li was slightly annoyed by her girlfriends’ teasing, but she pretended to be angry. “Keep it up and I’ll fall out with all of you. What kind of person do you think I am? Would I really fall for some immature kid?”
The moment she finished speaking, Fu Yang came hurrying over from the side.
Seeing that Tang Li was holding a glass of wine and was about to drink, he immediately snatched it from her and set it aside.
“President Tang, you mustn’t drink this!”
Her wineglass suddenly being taken away, Tang Li raised her willow brows in anger, but when she saw that it was Fu Yang, she calmed down and merely stared at him.
“What are you doing?”
At that moment, Tang Li’s entire group of girlfriends gathered around, laughing as they watched Fu Yang.
“Lili, your little boyfriend is really handsome. His eyes are so captivating, and he has such a unique air about him.”
“That’s right! He may be young, but with a little training, he’ll definitely make a fine man…”
“If you don’t want him, why not give him to me, little sister? I can be the first to break him in for you.”
Fu Yang was only a rather inexperienced young man. How could he possibly stand up to these shameless women? His face immediately flushed crimson.
Damn it! President Tang looks so aloof, but how did she end up with such filthy-minded girlfriends? A pure and innocent virgin like me can’t handle this at all…
He silently complained to himself before finally remembering that he had something important to say: he needed to warn Tang Li that tonight’s banquet might conceal a sinister plot.
But with so many people around, Fu Yang had no idea how to bring it up without alerting the enemy.
After stammering for a while, he could only force himself to say, “I don’t think it’s suitable for you to drink, President Tang. You shouldn’t get drunk…”
The women around them froze for a moment, then burst into uproarious laughter. Once again, they began teasing Tang Li and Fu Yang.
“Well, well, look at you worrying about your beloved Sister Tang Li!”
“What a considerate young man.”
“Lili, this handsome boy is quite something. He even knows to keep you from drinking…”
Fu Yang could tell that these women were genuinely close to Tang Li. All he could do was advise them as well. “Ladies, you shouldn’t drink either. There’s something wrong with this wine.”
The women stared blankly for a moment, then all burst out laughing. Since this was Lili’s little boyfriend speaking, they said, they would all listen to him.
Amid the laughter and banter, the two of them moved aside. Tang Li shot Fu Yang a glare, and even the fierce expression on her face looked incredibly sexy.
“You’d better explain yourself properly. What’s going on?”

“President Tang, I checked just now. Every alcoholic drink at this banquet contains curse magic!”
“What?!”
Tang Li’s expression changed. Even she could no longer remain calm after hearing that.
Fu Yang continued in a voice so low that only the two of them could hear. “President Tang, I’m afraid tonight’s banquet is a trap. Someone must be plotting something behind the scenes. The only question is who the mastermind is.”
“Wan Tiancheng organized this banquet. Could it be him? Has that man gone mad? There are at least thirty percent of Jiang City’s powerful families and their relatives gathered here!”
A look of horror appeared in Tang Li’s eyes.
Even as a formidable businesswoman who had fought her way across the commercial world, she felt a chill creep down her back.
If someone truly wiped out everyone here in one stroke, it would be far more terrifying than a terrorist attack. Jiang City’s economy would collapse, and the government would undoubtedly launch an all-out investigation, pursuing the matter to the bitter end.
How terrifying was the power of a great nation?
One only had to look at the major Taoist sects, the Buddhist masters, and the alliances of rogue cultivators, all of whom obediently united under the government’s leadership, to understand…
Even a madman would not dare attempt something like this!
So Fu Yang quietly reassured her. “I don’t think it will be quite that serious. The little insects in the wine are indeed part of curse magic, but the evil aura isn’t very strong. It probably isn’t any particularly powerful sorcery. Even if someone drank it, the harm shouldn’t be too severe. But whoever is behind this definitely has some kind of scheme. That’s what worries me. President Tang, we should leave.”
“What about my girlfriends and the other friends who are here?”
Tang Li had made plenty of enemies in the business world, but naturally, she also had friends. If she quietly escaped on her own, she would never be able to live with her conscience.
Fu Yang was torn as well.
He could not determine who their opponent was, how powerful they might be, or what plot they had devised. The wisest course of action was obviously to take Tang Li and leave immediately.
But Tang Li’s friends were still here, and she was unwilling to abandon them. Fu Yang himself was troubled by his conscience too. Now that he knew there might be a conspiracy, could he really leave after becoming involved while everyone else remained behind? He would never feel at peace.
At that moment, he finally understood the conflict Ah Huang had felt when Fu Yang dragged him into the case involving the Jiang University girls who drowned in their dreams…
“Forget it, President Tang. I’ll stay and see what’s really going on. If some evil sorcerer is behind this, I’ll do my best to fight him!”
Fu Yang sighed, but ultimately made that decision.
A glimmer flashed through Tang Li’s eyes, as though she had not expected Fu Yang to be so responsible.
The banquet continued.
Tang Li chatted and laughed with her girlfriends, but she did not touch another drop of alcohol. Whenever her friends wanted to drink, she subtly or deliberately stopped them.
At last, a voice rang out through the loudspeaker.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am deeply honored that, despite your busy schedules, you have found the time to attend my banquet.”
The spacious banquet hall immediately fell silent.
A dignified middle-aged man appeared on the second-floor balcony.
It was Wan Tiancheng.
After delivering a brief speech, he invited everyone to enjoy themselves before asking several important guests to accompany him to the VIP room for a private discussion.
There was nothing unusual about that.
High society was divided into countless levels. Ordinary millionaires and the extraordinarily wealthy naturally did not mingle as equals. Those invited by Wan Tiancheng into the VIP room all possessed fortunes worth hundreds of millions or more.
Tang Li was among those invited as well.
That alone showed how formidable this businesswoman truly was.
“I’m worried about you. Can I come with you?”
Fu Yang spoke with utmost seriousness.
Tang Li nodded in agreement and once again slipped her arm through his. Since they were supposedly a couple, there would be nothing improper about entering together.
For the sake of her safety, Fu Yang did not mind playing the role of her kept pretty boy one more time.
He accompanied Tang Li upstairs and entered a magnificent, gold-and-jade luxury room.
One after another, people filed in, laughing and chatting with the confidence of successful men and women.
Fu Yang recognized many of the solemn faces around him. He had often seen some of them in the local news.
It really is a gathering of high society. But what exactly is Wan Tiancheng planning?
Before long, everyone had arrived—seventeen or eighteen people in all.
Fu Yang noticed that Tang Li was the only one who had brought a “family member”—namely, him.
Wan Tiancheng was indeed a smooth and polished man. He was skilled at dealing with every kind of person and handled such a large gathering in perfect order.
No wonder he was a titan of the business world!
Just then, another group entered the room. They were dressed in black, wearing sunglasses, and looked like security guards. Slowly, they closed the doors behind them…
A word about the recent update schedule: Old Wu has been dealing with some matters in real life, so there will temporarily be two chapters a day, posted at 11:30 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening. Please take note, dear readers, and thank you for your support! I’ll do my best to return to the regular schedule as soon as possible.
End of Chapter.
