Chapter Sixty-Two: A Date with the Lady Ghost (Part Two)
"Then come with us!" Fu Yang glared at A Huang, who was fanning the flames, almost grinding his teeth.
To his surprise, A Huang suddenly performed a Daoist salute. "Boundless Heavenly Honored One! I am but a humble Daoist priest, unversed in worldly amusements. Besides, if I went, I might spoil the mood between Queen Vico and you. I’ll pass."
Fu Yang was dumbfounded!
He never imagined A Huang could be so shameless.
"You son of a—"
His curse was cut off by Dong Vico: "Mm, it’s just as well. Let Fu Yang accompany me."
A Huang nodded enthusiastically, tossed out a quick "I’ve got something to do, I’ll head back to the hotel," then turned tail and fled, leaving Fu Yang standing there in astonishment.
As A Huang hurriedly escaped from the old apartment building, he glanced back at the towering phantom of the "Gate of Ghosts" and revealed a sly grin. "Heh heh heh, I’ve got a good eye, don’t I? That ghost queen Dong Vico clearly has feelings for Fu Yang. Leaving them alone is the perfect opportunity. If something really happens, they'll have me to thank!"
After all, he was only a lay disciple—he never took Daoist rules all that seriously.
Even though Dong Vico was a ghost king, she had never harmed anyone, and he was more than happy for his brother to have her company.
"Only now, how on earth is Fu Yang going to explain this to Goddess Qin Mei and Shanshan? Neither of them is easy to handle... But what’s that got to do with me? Hmph~"
Patting his backside, A Huang strolled away, unhurried.
At six in the evening, Dong Vico emerged once more from her ancestral tablet.
This time, she seemed to have put on a touch of makeup. She wore jeans, white sneakers, and a sleeveless knit top.
The outfit concealed her sultry, voluptuous figure just a little, adding instead a playful charm reminiscent of a college girl. Her exposed arms were as fair as porcelain—Fu Yang had never seen such flawless, natural skin.
Even Qin Mei and Zhao Shanshan paled in comparison...
Gulp.
He swallowed instinctively—a man’s natural reaction upon seeing a beauty.
Dong Vico gave him a gentle smile. "Am I beautiful?"
"Beautiful! Too beautiful!" Fu Yang blurted out, then quickly caught himself. Damn, wasn’t she a fierce female ghost? Would he get beaten up for that?
But to his surprise, Dong Vico was not angry. In fact, there was a hint of delight in her eyes. She naturally slipped her arm around his: "Come on, let’s go shopping!"
A sweet scent wafted into his nose, warmth and softness pressed against his arm, and his mind went blank for a moment.
"Has she really changed this much after coming out this time? She’s so much gentler with me. What’s going on?"
He had no idea that many of Dong Vico’s previous actions had been tests for him.
Now that he had passed, and her mood was relaxed, her attitude had naturally improved. Of course, her proud and fiery nature was not likely to change...
"Where to first, Your Majesty?" Fu Yang asked cautiously, a little ill at ease with Dong Vico hanging on his arm. They looked just like a couple.
"Let’s get BJ roast duck first! I remember Quanjude has a branch in Jiangcheng Wanda. It’s been ages since I had roast duck," Dong Vico’s eyes sparkled.
Damn! Quanjude is expensive! Just maintaining the offerings and incense for you costs me enough each month, and now you want to eat real food?
Fu Yang felt a stampede of wild horses running through his mind, but he dared not utter a word of complaint.
He had already seen firsthand how powerful a ghost lord could be.
To go against someone who might be a ghost king? He wasn’t that brave!
So he forced a smile and raised both hands in agreement, letting her call all the shots.
"Fu Yang, you’re so sweet! From now on, I won’t bully you anymore." Dong Vico even rested her head lightly on his arm, just like a girl in love.
"You won’t bully me? R-really?" he asked in disbelief.
"Haha! Of course not. Fooled you." Dong Vico stuck out her tongue and made a face at him.
Good lord!
Fu Yang was almost dizzy with infatuation.
He suddenly understood why there was talk of “beauty as a source of calamity” in ancient times, why tales abounded of kings neglecting their duties for the sake of a beautiful woman.
If Dong Vico were alive, if she had lived in ancient times, she would surely have possessed such charm!
As they neared the school gate, they ran into two classmates from their department, Nan Gang and Yao Lu.
He’d seen them last time when Qin Mei invited Fu Yang and A Huang to sing at the karaoke.
"Hey, Fu Yang, what a coincidence. Heading out?" they greeted him warmly.
Then they saw Dong Vico, holding onto Fu Yang’s arm...
In an instant, their expressions froze.
"A stampede of wild horses rampaging through our hearts" wasn’t enough to describe their feelings. It was as if they’d been trampled by the Tauren Chieftain’s War Stomp.
"What a stunning girl! My god, is Fu Yang on some kind of lucky streak? First the campus belle Qin Mei invites him to sing, and now he’s got a girl even prettier than her clinging to him? Sure, he’s good-looking, but he’s just a nobody!"
Nan Gang and Yao Lu were at a loss.
Of course, Fu Yang could read their minds. With a smug grin, he waved dismissively: "We’re off, I have to take Vico to dinner."
With that, he strode away, leaving the two classmates rooted to the spot in shock.
"Is showing off so much fun?"
After they’d walked a little way, Dong Vico suddenly asked.
"Ah? What did you say, Your Majesty..." Fu Yang broke out in a cold sweat.
He had indeed gotten a little carried away, wanting them to think Dong Vico was his girlfriend. He never expected to get caught.
"I—uh—please have mercy..." He put on a miserable face, trembling with fear.
But to his astonishment, Dong Vico suddenly went up on tiptoe and planted a soft kiss on his cheek.
Then a gentle voice whispered in his ear: "Tonight, I’ll be your girlfriend. Go ahead and show off all you want, haha."
With that, she slipped free of his hand and dashed off ahead.
As she ran, she called back, "Fu Yang, come catch me! Hee hee."
The night breeze lifted her hair; under the glow of freshly lit street lamps, her exquisite face looked breathtakingly beautiful. The figure so many women envied and admired was like that of a lively, enchanting sprite in the gathering dusk.
In that moment, Fu Yang’s heart gave a violent jolt.
It felt as though he’d been struck by a bullet.
Right then and there, he felt the scene was eerily familiar.
As if, long, long ago—so long it preceded his own lifetime—he’d seen something just like this.
A proud, beautiful, lively girl, and a warm-blooded, endearingly clueless boy...
For an instant, fleeting images flashed through his mind.
"What the hell? Am I hallucinating now?" Fu Yang gave a wry smile and shook his head, dismissing the thought.
Then a smile spread across his face as he chased after Dong Vico.
"Wait for me! Queen—no, Vico! Wait for me!"
