Fu Yang hurried after him, fleeing for his life. Even as he ran, he could not help admiring Lord Bear, and shouted, “You dead fat cat! I thought you were just trading insults with the Evil Daoist! I never imagined you were secretly preparing a Buddhist formation. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! When we get back, I’ll reward you with a can of fish...”

“A can of fish, my ass! Buy me a fresh ten-pound catfish!”

“What?! What are you planning to do with it?”

“Eat it, obviously! Are you an idiot? What else would I do, shove it up your ass?”

Even in such a perilous situation, the man and the cat still found time to mock each other. It was almost absurd.

Unfortunately, Putuo Mountain’s Buddhist Immovable Lion Formation was not a particularly powerful restraining formation. The Evil Daoist had merely been caught off guard at first.

Once he recovered, he swung the black, bone-made whisk in his hand fiercely at the roaring phantom of the male lion.

The phantom shattered beneath the blow, dissolving into specks of golden light before vanishing.

“You ruined my plan and still think you can escape from me?”

Liu Mengshu gave a cold snort and swept the whisk in his hand toward the ground.

A streak of black light flashed at once.

Countless things resembling tree roots suddenly appeared across the stall. They were as black as ink and moved with astonishing speed, slithering toward Fu Yang and Lord Bear like snakes.

They were just about to rush through the door when Fu Yang suddenly felt a tightness around his ankle.

He looked down.

A dense mass of black, snake-like tendrils had covered the tops of his feet and wrapped around his ankles, leaving him completely unable to move. Lord Bear was in the same predicament; all four of his furry little paws had been bound.

“Damn it! What the hell is this?”

Fu Yang was horrified.

Lord Bear cursed as he struggled desperately. “This is unbelievable! It’s another application of the Maoshan Spirit-Summoning Art, only the thing summoned is an evil entity. An earth-binding evil spirit, something between a ghost and a demon.”

The Evil Daoist’s eerie voice drifted over from behind them. “You certainly know a great deal. You cannot be an ordinary cat demon. What exactly are you?”

His footsteps looked slow, yet in the blink of an eye he had crossed the distance and arrived before Fu Yang and Lord Bear.

He reached out and seized Lord Bear by his large, furry tail.

Then he lifted him upside down by the tail, his head hanging toward the floor.

His cold, indifferent eyes studied the creature carefully.

Furious and alarmed, Fu Yang struggled desperately against the disgusting black roots around his feet and roared at Liu Mengshu, “Put him down! Otherwise, I swear I’ll fuck you to death!”

Lord Bear was no pushover either. His chubby body twisted madly in midair as he unleashed a stream of filthy abuse at Liu Mengshu.

Descriptions of various body parts flew through the air, along with passionate declarations of his desire to have improper relations with every woman in the man’s family.

Even the Evil Daoist, usually composed, could not keep a trace of anger from flashing through his eyes.

“What a filthy mouth. Beat him.”

He spoke coldly.

The black earth-binding evil spirits on the ground converged into a gigantic black palm, then began slapping Lord Bear’s broad, fat face over and over.

“Fuck...”

Smack!

“You son of a bitch...”

Smack!

“I’ll make you buy me a ten-pound catfish...”

Smack, smack, smack, smack!

Lord Bear truly suffered this time.

His face had already been broad and plump. After the Evil Daoist controlled the earth-binding spirits to viciously pummel him, it swelled until it became even larger. He no longer had the strength to curse.

Fu Yang usually traded insults with the creature and even fought him, but the two had actually formed a deep bond.

Now, seeing the Evil Daoist brutalize Lord Bear while he hung helplessly in midair, Fu Yang was consumed by rage.

“Fuck you, Liu Mengshu! I’m going to take you down with me!”

He roared until his voice turned hoarse. Once again, a warm current surged from the region of his heart and instantly spread throughout his body.

He had already been utterly exhausted, yet now he suddenly felt strength flooding back into every limb.

Crack! Crack!

His feet shattered the tendrils of the earth-binding spirits. He raised his right hand high, and the enormous phantom of a mysterious beast’s paw immediately appeared above it.

Its claws were sharp as swords.

The scales covering it were indistinct, but black mist roiled around them, revealing an immense and terrifying power.

“Go to hell!”

Fu Yang thrust his hand fiercely toward the Evil Daoist.

Liu Mengshu’s pupils contracted sharply.

“Oh? The power of the Ghost Path!”

He released Lord Bear, whose face had been swollen from the beating, and retreated rapidly while forming a Daoist hand seal.

Maoshan Art: Yin Firmament Severing!

As soon as the Evil Daoist completed the seal, he thrust his palm forward.

Countless gray wisps of mist appeared from nowhere around them and, with a thunderous boom, condensed into a thick wall. A Bagua pattern flickered faintly across its surface.

Boom!!!

Fu Yang’s mysterious beast claw, unleashed with the power of the Ghost Path, slammed into the wall of magic and immediately dispersed into black mist. However, Yin Firmament Severing was shattered as well.

Liu Mengshu had not expected Fu Yang to erupt with such power a second time. Forced to respond in haste, he staggered back several steps even after casting the Maoshan defensive art.

Fu Yang knew that he was fighting with his life on the line.

He did not expect to defeat Liu Mengshu. All he wanted was to injure him and create even the slightest chance for himself and Lord Bear to escape.

The power of the Ghost Path had been completely exhausted. All he could do was force himself to cast the strongest offensive spell he currently possessed once more.

Maoshan Spirit-Summoning Talisman: Giant Spirit Finger!

A fierce wind howled. Another gigantic phantom index finger appeared from thin air and bore down upon the Evil Daoist.

This time, however, he had not had enough time to prepare. He could not even finish reciting the incantation, so the spell was far weaker than the one that had previously killed Tuka.

“Hmph! I’ll show you what true Maoshan Art looks like. Giant Spirit Finger!”

Liu Mengshu gave a cold laugh and cast the same spell.

He was a true disciple of Maoshan, and his mastery of Maoshan Art far surpassed that of Fu Yang, an impostor.

The Giant Spirit Finger he summoned was more than twice the size of Fu Yang’s.

Boom!

The two spells collided once again.

A violent gale erupted, overturning the tables and chairs all around them.

Fu Yang’s Giant Spirit Finger collapsed on the spot. Liu Mengshu’s, meanwhile, had merely faded slightly and continued bearing down upon him.

An overwhelming aura locked onto Fu Yang. His mind shook, and it was as though he had been struck by an immobilization spell. He could not even move his feet.

“How could this be...?”

Fu Yang stared in disbelief.

Nearby, Lord Bear struggled desperately, trying to lunge toward him.

“Fu, you fucking idiot, get out of the way! Meow! Meow!”

The Giant Spirit Finger was terrifyingly overbearing.

If Fu Yang were struck directly, he would likely be crushed to pieces on the spot.

He could not save himself, and Lord Bear had no time to reach him.

At this critical moment, with death hanging by a thread—

“All right. Looks like it’s game over. A-Huang once said that a Daoist’s soul becomes especially powerful after death. Maybe I can go to the underworld and apply for a job as a ghost officer.”
